  • "Siesta Chalet is fabulous."

It is in a great location and the property itself is well maintained and clean. We found it had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable too. My only slight niggle is that I contacted Sykes to check that it was wheelchair accessible and was told it was. That is not really true due to the thresholds at both doorways. We managed but it should not really be regarded as appropriate for wheelchair users.

  • "Thank you for our stay at this gorgeous chalet."

It was spotlessly clean, well maintained with everything you could need for a few days stay. The location is beautifully rural with fantastic views and a very short walk to the pebble beach. We enjoyed a costal walk to West Bay and my children were particularly delighted to cross a bridge to get there. Despite it being incredibly windy and rainy we had a wonderful time and will definitely visit again.

  • "What a great week, very relaxing, could hardly move from the view."

‘Siesta’ is certainly well named. We loved it. We will definitely go again . This is not a criticism but it would help if there was a non slip mat and a handle on the wall for us “oldies” for getting in and out for a shower.

  • "We have just returned from a 4-night stay at Siesta Cottage in Eype."

Our stay was satisfactory, but some issues spoilt the holiday for us meaning we wouldn't choose to book Siesta Chalet again. The chalet is around 1 mile off the A35, after which are very narrow and steep roads to Eype, if you meet any oncoming traffic then someone will have to reverse to get through! The grass leading to the chalet is on a very steep gradient, and there is car parking space for 1 car outside. Apart from a small local shop and a small SPAR newsagent which have limited opening hours, the nearest supermarkets are in Bridport (2 miles). You do feel quite disconnected from reality due to this, which could be seen as a positive or negative! Pros: - The views from the chalet are fantastic and exactly as advertised in the photos. It was lovely to wake up and step out to the patio to such gorgeous views of the coastline. - The chalet was generally well equipt. - We loved the 2-minute walk down to the beach, and 1 mile walk across to West Bay along the South West Coast Path. We also had a lovely meal at "The George" pub in West Bay. Cons: - When we arrived at the property after 16:15, we walked in to find the chalet had not been cleaned from the previous occupants, who had left the chalet in an absolute state. We contacted the owner who was very apologetic and arranged for it to be cleaned ASAP, but this was extremely disappointing for us after a such a long journey and it spoilt the start of our stay. - The toilet flush broke on several occasions meaning the water wouldn't stop running, and we had to keep making temporary fixes as suggested from the owner to stop it. - The furniture is dated and could use with a refresh. The wicker sofa is not particularly comfortable to stretch out on. - The bath is very small so it was difficult to stretch out and relax. The shower head had a crack in it which looked like it would snap if adjusted up or down. - The lounge TV (which runs on Fire TV) is very slow and often gave up attempting to use any of the streaming features. This may be due to the WiFi which is reliant on Mobile Broadband. - The key safe is very old and grotty, we had trouble opening and closing it.

Dear Sir, I'm sorry to hear that your stay wasn't as you might have hoped. I have addressed your points below and hope that you can find some consolation within them. LOCATION While we appreciate the lane is a bit windy getting to the chalet, we have always thought this adds to the magic of it, given that it is a government road, sadly there is not much we can do about this. In regards to the nearby shops, we have always thought this is quite normal for most country retreats. We are very happy to read that the views from the chalet were gorgeous and as expected from the photos. CLEANING As I mentioned to you when I came to down to fix the issue, we rely on a cleaning company to do the change over of the chalet as we do not live nearby. Sadly we were let down by them that day and were none the wiser until you arrived and informed us. I came down with fresh everything as soon as I found out and had the property turned around while you enjoyed sites of the Dorset Coast. I was under the impression that the apology and gifts I brought for the inconvenience had settled the matter. I am sorry that was not the sufficient. LOO/ SHOWER/BATH. We contacted a plumber on hearing about the loo and this problem has now been resolved. We were unaware of the shower head issue until we cleaned the property at the start of your stay. This has also now been fixed. The bath is a bit small but that is due to the size of the bathroom. When designing the bathroom, we decided that a small bath was better than no bath. I am sorry that you did not find this satisfactory. FURNITURE/SOFA I am sorry that you find the furniture 'dated'. We have always thought it complimented the country/coast feel quite well as shown in the pictures of the property. TV/BROADBAND The TV has been a disappointment for us and so we are looking at other options but it has always worked for us when we have checked (albeit a bit slow). The internet is the strongest we can get without paying for fibre to be put in, sadly fibre internet is not an economically viable option due to the rural nature of the property. KEY SAFE Contrary to its appearance, the key safe is only a couple of years old. Being made of metal, the sea air increases erosion/rust on all metal objects giving it a more weathered look. Since receiving this review I have gone and tested it multiple times and had no issue with opening or closing it. As I said at the start, I am truly sorry that your stay was not as you hoped but I hope some of your points have been cleared up. If you would like to clarify on anything further, please message me on 'office@stockgaylard.com'. Kind Regards Jack Property Owner

  • "The location is wonderful - fantastic sea views and the property is comfortable and well equipped."

We did have an issue that the cot and high chair requested were not there on arrival. Credit to the owners they came same day with the items - however the cot mattress was missing and a full size cot mattress given to fit in a travel cot. We made it work but would be good to get the travel cot mattress sorted for future guests. Also - the toilet was not particularly clean - could do with a proper scrub.

About the location

EYPE

Bridport 1.8 miles; Lyme Regis 9.6 miles; Seaton 18.4 miles.

Eype sits on one of the most dramatic sections of the Jurassic Coastline, and famously features one of ITV’s series Broadchurch’s most iconic locations. We’ll leave you guessing as to which one until you visit. The beach at Eype is a steeply shelving pebble beach that is dog friendly all year round and just 3 miles from Bridport and 4 from West Bay, where many other Broadchurch locations can be viewed, as well enjoying local fish and chips on the harbour side and ice creams on the sea front. Bridport offers all the high street amenities you will need along with a much-coveted antiques and collectables market. Golden Cap, the highest point in Dorset, sits on the South West Coast path and is just 4 miles from Eype, although it’s the highest point there are moderate routes to walk to the top, where spectacular far reaching views along the coast will be your reward.
