  • "Lovely cottage, great views from the lounge area."

The windows and skylights flood it with natural light making it a wonderful place just to sit, read or appreciate the view. The kitchen is well equipped and the log burner was a treat to relax by. We loved the feel of the cottage, with the older style furnishings, our dog loved exploring the garden and the field. I would recommend the cottage if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing place to stay.

  • "Old Cary Cottage was incredible!"

We feel on love with the stunning views and beautiful cottage interior, and discovering all the hard work the owners put into renovating the property from scratch, it made it all the more special. There was an abundance of wildlife, beautiful walks, and pure tranquility, it was exactly what we needed. We were only a short commute to local amenities with Langport being only 4 miles away, and Street only a 15 min drive. We truly had a lovely, peaceful time at Old Cary Cottage, the dogs loved every moment too. With everything being on one level, it was great for myself and my arthritic dog too. We really fell in love with the place and hope to return in the future.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Having a wildlife garden with apple trees, wine berries, black berries etc was an added bonus. Our kids loved it and so did we. The only negative and it was a tiny one for us, was that it didn’t matter where you put the TV aerial, the signal was non existent. Not a problem though as there was a Where’s Wally? 1000 piece puzzle that kept us “entertained” in the evenings for most of the week. Lovely place, thoroughly recommend it.

There is beautiful countryside all around and easy access to shops with a car and attractions in Somerset and Devon. Although we didn’t meet our hosts we had everything we needed. The cottage is a natural & rustic quiet place to relax and enjoy a week away from everyday life.

An eco-conscious haven of tranquility. Me and my dogs enjoyed every minute of our stay here...from the wild garden, to the ornate bathroom, the slate floors to taking morning coffee from the rocking chair on the veranda, and ohhh the aroma of honeysuckle as you walk through to the parking area. This place surpasses expectations.

There is a lovely, relaxed vibe about the place and the views from the cottage are wonderful. Love the fact that the garden is left as a haven for wildlife and it was great to have an enclosed garden and a field beyond for the dogs to run around in. The location is fabulous within easy reach of Wells and Glastonbury, with lots of nature reserves in the locality. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Left feeling renewed and relaxed.

Slightly unusual, lots of space, very quiet and comfortable, beautifully furnished in an eclectic way with some retro items which took me back to my childhood! I could go on but there is too many wonderful things to mention. The garden was heaven for both humans and dogs, and when the cows weren't in the paddock beyond the garden the dogs had a lovely mooch there too. Ideal because my old dog could just potter and the younger one could race around. While the owners live next door they were unobtrusive, though very helpful if needed. Thank you for a wonderful week.

  • "We had a lovely break in Old Cary’s Cottage and appreciated the games being provided, however there were a few things that we’d like to point out: the garden is not fully secure due to the wooden gate between properties not being on a latch (it swung open on its own) and we had to block it with a stick."

For some guests this might not be a problem but for reactive dog owners it is, and we were informed it was secure. Also for small dog owners, the 3 foot side gate would not have kept them in due to its wide spacing. In the welcome pack it states that owners may come to use the sink and vegetable garden, which we were not warned of ahead of booking, again a problem for reactive dog owners. It’s possible the owners don’t do this anymore so they could just remove that detail from the pack. Generally the place looked nice and had everything we liked but the dining chairs were not comfortable and the mattress wasn’t great (but I do have a bad back and people like different types, so maybe that’s just me). Overall it is a nice, quiet spot to have a break from busy lives.

Thank you for your feedback. You are right the information pack does need updating, we don't enter the garden on the cottage side anymore and if we did we would let holiday makers know. I'm sorry the gate flew open, it is normally latched securely on our side. The small metal gate hasn't been a problem for many, but I do appreciate a smaller dog may escape there. We can always secure it if anybody asks though. All the best Property Owner

  • "Wow, what a true gem Old Cary Cottage is!"

Tucked away in an idyllic hamlet away from the hustle and bustle of life this beautiful cottage is everything we could have hoped for! The space inside is so well thought-out with an exquisite interior that spills into the perfect wild garden and blends in with the surrounding nature effortlessly! It also had everything practical covered for people and pups alike. We came for a short two night stay and visited Wells and Cheddar easily from the property but all secretly looked forward to returning back each evening. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, our 2 children (5 and 8) who loved nature spotting and lazing in the hammock, our 1 year old apple munching labrador who endlessly ran, sniffed, and ate his way around the enclosed garden, or us parents who got to enjoy a well earned sunrise coffee / sunset glass of wine! The owners (who live next door) were incredibly friendly in the few interactions we had, one of which was to drop everything and help us escape a scary cow related situation (of our own making) and their children even helped ours to find the best blackberries! Word of caution - don't take a wrong turn and attempt to go THROUGH the length of the cow field, something we foolishly did without thinking! All in all a perfect stay and highly recommended!

Thank you for your kind words! Please come again. Charlotte Property Owner

Or we could just have changed the locks and never left! It is just that lovely! Everything you could ever need!

The owners have done a fantastic and very thoughtful, stylish job converting an old cowshed. I visited with my elderly mother and we loved the (pleasantly quirky) style and the quietness. The natural feel of the extensive garden is great, with various places to sit outside including a picnic table, a rocking chair under a veranda and a hammock in a large apple tree. Great facilities inside, including a really nice old piano which is very playable. Good access from the road and very convenient parking space. Loads of fruit to pick in the garden, so bring the ingredients to make crumbles if in season! The surrounding area has great countryside, walks and places to visit. I really hope to be able to return.

  • "What a cosy, lovely little cottage in an idyllic spot with walks straight out onto the levels."

Cottage felt spacious , it is not obvious from picture how far it extends back. Bedrooms are a really good size and beds were reasonably comfortable . So impressed with owners renovation which keeps cottage at a good temperature. Plenty of hot water for a lovely soak. Everything we needed was provided. All we could think of as improvements are a potato masher and coat hooks in hall Great dvd collection available+ dvd, mobile reception was mostly ok. We were delighted to see the owl regularly in the garden ! We did not see owners much at all although they are next door, there is good privacy. The location is nice and quiet. The sat nav did not take us to right place initially - easiest access is through Ham village , down hill and turn right into Henley Lane, it’s them on left with front of gate visible. We had one meal put at the Halfpenny pub in Pitney, worth booking as very popular for hearty pub grub and very reasonable ! We enjoyed Somerton, Glastonbury, Montacute National trust and village, Ham hill walk, Coombe Hill ( not near property) . Langport is a lovely friendly town with walks and in Street, there is the Clark’s retail shopping centre. We will definitely be coming back here !

Thank you Wendy, such kinds words. We will get that masher and hooks for sure. All the best Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very cute."

Having the open fields and easy dog walks on your doorstep is ideal. The wood burner is a lovely touch, the lounge is bright and airy and the open plan of kitchen and lounge is nice as when cooking you can still socialise. It is very rural, EE mobile signal not great, Internet was strong enough to watch Downloads and check emails. TV signal was sufficient for regular TV. It's a shame the bed config is as is because it limits it to couples or singles and I think it would be a lovely place to share with friends........ zip linked beds would be an idea. There was no welcome pack so make sure you visit the supermarket on your way, nearest was Tesco in Langport.

Fantastic setting, lovely cottage and surroundings. Finishing touches were very quirky as was the general decor. Ideal for a complete decompression from town and city living, the natural wildlife in the garden and general area was amazing, we saw an abundance of insects and birds of prey. Very dog friendly, our’s came home exhausted from all the “sniffs” and exploring. A great base for exploring Glastonbury, Wells and the surrounding areas. Only downside were the beds. They could do with with upgrading for both size and comfort. As a tall person the double ended bed in the master was impossible to get comfortable in, and the second room bed had a mattress creakier than the Mary Rose. We had to come home for a decent night’s sleep. All in all, 8/10 with a big thumbs up from our 6yr old and the dog.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I'm not sure where it says about a dishwasher? I have checked all our information and there is nothing about a dishwasher. We have a washing machine in the garage which guests can use as they wish. Sorry if there was any confusion. We understand about the telly. I know it's not ideal.
