  • "We have stayed in Cajun cottage several times since 2012."

The cottage is always perfectly presented. Exceptionally Clean, well stocked with all the Crockery and cooking equipment you would need for large gatherings. The gardens are also beautifully kept and something both my husband and I were looking forward to spending time in as the view is also incredible. The property is really close to the cove and restaurants it’s perfectly located gentle or challenging walks and exploring Dorset.

  • "Always a pleasure to come and stay at Cajun."

Cottage. 4th time. Perfect situation for a short stay. My niggle was the heating. It's had been very wet and rainy and we needed to dry out and feel warmer. The heating thermostat booster didn't work and in order to get the heating on we had to turn the dial up to 25.. even though the cottage felt cold. I left a note for the caretaker to reset the heating times and take off any pre set times they locked on. Perhaps a new thermostat. The bins hadn't been emptied for some time. We put our 1 bag in and hauled the black bin to the front of the cottage before we left. The other bins also needed to be emptied. Basic stuff really.. Because the heating wasn't coming on properly we had to use the log fire And bought our own logs. The chimney might need a brush as the fire was quite Smokey with back draft. That may have been the awful weather. Recommendation.. A little light weight vacumme would be useful.

We’re sorry that your stay had these problems, and thank you for letting us know. We stayed at Cajun Cottage after you left and didn’t find any problems with the central heating. We did notice that the thermostat was set to 18 degrees, the boost function doesn’t increase the thermostat temperature, it only switches the system on, if it is off on the timer. We had the log burner and chimney checked out and swept 6 weeks ago. It is swept twice a year. Maybe the logs you bought weren’t as dry/seasoned as they could have been, or the damper settings on the log burner weren’t right. We’ve tried it and it seems to work fine. The bins are collected - 1 week land fill waste and the next week recycling. We do ask guests to put the bins out. We’re sorry if you inherited a backlog. Despite these glitches, we hope to see you back for your 5th visit in 2025! Property Owner

The weather was kind to us so it was breakfast on the lovely patio each morning which was a treat. The views and walks are second to none and a great base for various other wonderful places. A perfect place to stay, just lovely , thank you. Elaine and Bill

  • "Cajun Cottage is a nice and cozy place to spend holidays."

It’s centrally located in Lulworth Cove Beach and in the middle of an impressive landscape. The cottage itself is modernly equipped with all amenities and offers plenty of space. We preferred to enjoy breakfast in the garden, even the access is steep. We will remember our stay in the best memory.

  • "Like our stay 12 years ago, Cajun cottage was fantastic and superbly placed."

Our children were of the same opinion as ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the cove on their own merits. A nice gesture would have been a welcome hamper of assorted local produce. Being involved with a similar venture, where we live, it is the small gestures that produce the best results but this comment must not distract from an excellent week

  • "We had an absolutely beautiful week’s stay at Cajun Cottage."

We felt so lucky to be a short stroll from the beach and the hills and local amenities. The cottage was beautiful, clean and comfortable and the hosts very responsive. We can recommend purchasing a 7 day parking for the carpark opposite the cottage for a second car (cottage has one free spot included). Thank you, we hope to return soon!

  • "A lovely property, well equipped and with plenty of room for the five of us."

We had a great stay and really enjoyed exploring the area. The only downside was the parking arrangements as we were two families in two cars and the cost of parking the second car in the car park opposite was absolutely extortionate (£20/day!) which added significantly to the holiday cost.

  • "This was our second visit to Cajun Cottage."

It's a lovely cottage, very warm and with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent with two pubs within walking distance as well as cafes and other restaurants nearby. For those who don't drive, the buses seemed to be fairly frequent even in winter and they stop just over the road in the big car park. There is loads of good walking nearby and we also visited Tyneham this time, which is a village acquired by the MOD in WWII (well worth a visit). Dorset is a lovely county and the people are very friendly and welcoming - we hope to be able to come back again soon.

  • "The cottage is situated in a beautiful location and was clean on our arrival."

We contacted the house keeper as wasn't sure if the log basket had been refilled as only 4 small logs, a few off cuts from tree branches and kindling - there was no matches or ignition lighter. We were told that yes it had been refilled and that was all that was left out for her to put in the basket. We found this quite unacceptable having to purchase our first batch logs, which in theory we had already paid for. She explained that she has no idea what is left until she arrives at the cottage and can't find replacements! There was no cleaning products for the toilets or bathroom only one hard surface spray in the kitchen and one cloth. Considering the cost of the cottage and the fact the owners request it is left clean on departure you would have thought they'd be available. We did ask her to pass our message on to the owner - she replied "I will do that." We heard nothing back.

We're sorry there weren't enough logs supplied, we normally aim for a full basket. We will add some further cleaning products, but we should say that we don't expect our guests to clean the cottage on departure, though leaving it tidy is much appreciated. We are glad you found the cottage clean on arrival, and yes, the location is pretty spectacular! Property Owner

  • "The cottage was well placed for touring the area and outwardly was very appealing."

The garden area was pleasant and secure for the dogs. Eating out, the local pubs and restaurants were excellent. However, and I did not wish to publicise this , ,but the response from Sykes and the owner has been less than satisfactory so I feel that future paying guests should know about our experience. The kitchen was not well cleaned, greasy marks on cupboard doors and handles, crumbs in the drawers, dirty oven and baking tray. Underneath the sink was a filthy dirty dish brush! The cloakroom taps were also ringed with dirt. I did not anticipate coming on Holiday and having to clean items before use! A disappointing experience

We're pleased you enjoyed some aspects of your stay. However, we do apologise for the lapse in our usual cleaning standards, and thank you for highlighting the specific problems that you encountered. We'll work hard to ensure they do not happen again. Property Owner

  • "Hello, we had an amazing time at such a beautiful place ."

One thing I will say (but I do not want to share this on any reviews) is that the back garden had a lot of ticks. We used it one morning for breakfast but I had several ticks in my legs so we were not able to use the garden again all week. I understand these things happen but if there are any measures that can possibly be taken to perhaps eradicate them then this maybe something to consider. Wonderful stay

  • "Cajun Cottage is amazing."

Spotlessly clean, a good size and within crawling distance of the local hostelries, where we ate every day, twice a day. The walks in the area are many and varied, so you can can choose to suit your abilities. One fairly easy walk that we loved was from Ringstead to Osmington Mills where, the very picturesque Smuggler's Inn is situated for a great choice of food/drinks before heading back again. This walk combines woodland and cliff with stunning views. Also, I've never seen so many butterflies as were along that 2 mile walk. They were amazing! We also walked the more difficult route to Durdle Door and later in the day took a Rib ride to see it from the sea. That was great too. Lulworth is such a lovely place to unwind and recharge your batteries. We've now been there about 4 times and will definitely return, hopefully back to Cajun Cottage as that's the best accommodation we've had so far and doubt we could find better. Tyneham is also well worth a visit and has a nice flat walk to the coast.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cajun cottage."

We particularly appreciated the warmth provided by the central heating system and the log burner as it was quite a cold week!. There was nothing that the cottage seemed to lack in amenities. And it was great being so close to the local pub, although the Castle Inn about a mile away we thought served better quality food and was 'livlier' at this time of year. We loved Lulworth Cove and the area, it is a beautiful spot. Thank you for the opportunity to stay. The Christmas tree was a nice touch.

  • "Cajun Cottage is a delightful thatched property in the centre of Lulworth Cove."

With its own private parking space across the road and easy walking access to shops, restaurants and hiking trails, it's an ideal location for a visit to Dorset. The cottage is cosy and the extra large utility room is a great bonus for muddy boots and wet jackets. The back garden is a steep climb to the top but the views are worth it. A few quirks, like toilets need multiple flushes and though it sleeps five there's only room for four to sit in the lounge. It could also benefit from a deep clean. However, we would happily stay here again.

  • "Perfect location but unfortunately the cleanliness of the cottage was questionable: Cobwebs - a daddy long legs entangled in a giant one in the kitchen!"

Rad pipes black with dirt. Unit next to microwave thick with dust in which I wrote … clean me! Outside of microwave the same! Coffee machine filthy! TV screen also filthy Im not sure anywhere had been polished, certainly didn’t look like it! Windowsills, coffee tables certainly not. All in all needs a good professional clean and a lick of paint. Such a shame.

Thanks for letting us know - we've not ever had these sort of comments before - but will certainly address. Property Owner

About the location

WEST LULWORTH

Wareham 9.1 miles; Weymouth 14.7 miles

West Lulworth boasts some of the most dramatic geological features on the Jurassic coastline and arguably the most photographed locations in the UK. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door sit at the heart of this area and really are a must see. Lulworth Cove has many little café’s and beachside shacks serving local seafood, ice cream and other delights, as well as several restaurants and pubs from which to choose. There is an Lulworth estate information centre which offers an insight into how the cove and Durdle door were formed and Jurassic history of the region. If you tire of Cove and cliff top walks then Lulworth Castle is a short drive away and offers another glimpse at some more recent history, along with Tyneham Village, and Corfe Castle. This is a really special area and the village retains a lot of it’s thatched cottages and has a real air of a rural retreat.
