  • "The location is great, right in the centre of the town, and the beds and bedding were very comfortable."

The central heating was effective and the shower good. The cottage is clearly someone's personal holiday home that is let out, rather than solely a holiday property, and this means that there are a lot of personal items there (which gives it character), but it also means that it is not designed, equipped and managed in the way a dedicated holiday place might be. The sofa and armchairs are well used (and a bit broken!) and the kitchen and equipment are a bit haphazard. For example, there are 4 x stove top coffee percolators, 3 x cafetieres and 2 x large teapots but no jugs and 1 really small oven dish with no lid. There are 5 x steamer baskets, a fish scaler and a fish kettle, but no simple kitchen scales and only one small saucepan with a lid! The woodburning stove door doesn't shut properly so you can't keep a fire in without roaring it (and getting through a lot of fuel), which isn't helped by the fact that the grate had been cleaned out totally, so there was no ash base on which to burn wood - coal needs a clean base so it gets air underneath, but wood needs to burn on a bed of ash. We got through 3 bags of wood trying to get a decent base. Overall, it's a nice cottage and the quirks and omissions would be 'part of the charm' if it was your own place, or that of a friend or family, but we have had much better cottages at this price point.

Hi thanks for the feedback - always helpful- we are very much in the hands of our professional lettings agents Sykes/Lyme Bay Holidays in respect of cleanliness, advice on what needs to be provided so have followed their guide on what to provide - and the pricing. So will ask them to check cleanliness etc. Was there something wrong with the information provided as you indicated it was only accurate to 50% and we would want to make the description correct .Many thanks Property Owner

  • "Uncomfortable."

The seat springs of the sofa and armchairs are broken so there was nowhere to sit together. The house is on a street that is very busy and noisy until late at night and this kept us up. Convenient location for the town centre and beach. Very expensive indeed for what you get and wouldn't recommend.

  • "Lovely cottage very conveniently located in the heart of Lyme Regis old town."

A cottage with character, but with the modern furnishings you'd expect such as a lovely walk-in shower and comfortable beds. A good base to explore Lyme Regis on foot from. Some nice touches like the welcome pack and even complimentary binoculars! Suggestions for improvement: As the cottage opens straight on to a street, a blind or net curtains would be useful at the lounge window as passers-by tend to gawp in. Also, the old cast iron garden furniture needs disposing of and replacing with a new garden set (with a cover to keep the seagull poo off) As we went at the height of the season Woodmead Car Park, that the parking permit is for, was always full but we managed to get a space the day after arrival (by getting up early doors and transferring the car from the long stay car park)

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your kind review and helpful suggestions. We have placed 2 new benches outside to improve the seating. Property Owner

  • "Naunton cottage needs a really thorough clean, every corner/ under furniture/ moving a dining chair from under the table revealed dirt and dust."

It hasn’t had a thorough clean in a long time. The front entrance smells strongly of urine despite me cleaning it several times. The paint in the bathroom continually rains a fine dust of white paint over everything- you have to see it to believe it - but I’m sure you are already aware. It was constantly covering towels, and clothing we were drying on the towel warmer and toiletries. Inhaling fine paint is hazardous to health and not something I was happy about exposing my two children to. Finally only two chairs for outside despite being a family of four. I tried to complain during our stay, only to be pointed to Sykes after our stay ended. I have asked for a partial refund I feel so strongly about the condition of the property. We will be holidaying again in the area but at this point it’s unlikely to be with Lyme Bay / Sykes as no one as yet, has acknowledged the situation.

Thank you for your feed back. I will raise the points you have raised with Sykes cottages. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. There are extra chairs for use outdoors- but kept inside which are wooden fold up chairs kept by the back door and another 2 in the main bedroom. The urine smell outside the front door does not sound nice - we have had a problem with owners allowing their dogs to urinate in the road outside which is possibly what is causing that issue. Thank you for washing this area . We will have the bathroom paintwork checked as all was ok in June when family were last there but obviously things can change. What a very disappointing stay for you - but thank you for raising these points which will help to ensure the cottage is kept clean. I hope that you were able to enjoy the sunny weather and close proximity to the sea which is really helpful when getting to the beach with small children. I will check with Sykes to ensure you have a response soon. Property Owner
