  • "We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Waterson."

We booked very last minute and couldn’t have chosen a more perfect retreat. Well located and breathtaking views. Everything you could possibly need is right there and the cakes were a very thoughtful addition.

  • "Fantastic position."

We all loved staying at Waterson and would like to go back. There were niggly things that could be done easily to make it so much better. I’m not sure how much cleaning had been done which is a real negative and we couldn’t get in until 5 pm so they had all day to do it. Having said that I really enjoyed my stay.

  • "Having stayed here before, we knew what we were getting."

The property is in need of a bit of TLC and is quite tired in places, the rear garden would be great if made secure, the current fencing is inadequate if you have an inquisitive dog. Steps up to the rear garden are quite treacherous when wet and so is the driveway, found it to be very slippery after a shower of rain. But an excellent place to explore the local beaches and footpaths, and a great pub on the doorstep.

  • "This was our second year in a row back at Waterson,we absolutely love it there."

The location is brilliant and both visits we enjoyed every minute. For some constructive criticism there are a few minor things that could be improved. The whistling of the plumbing when the toilet is flushed can wake the whole household up if it’s pressed in the middle of the night. The two beds in the first bedroom not particularly comfy and the entrance to the garden area was so overgrown we had to trim some foliage back ourselves to access it..There is an area of decking that sticks up by the gravel area.which one of the kids bashed their toes on last year which was still the same this year and once again somebody kicked their toe on it.I’m a window cleaner and I could tell the windows hadn’t been cleaned since we were there last year. The upstairs bedroom can get unbelievably warm and muggy in the night so it would be a nice touch to provide a fan or two.All these things could be resolved with very minimal outlay and a competent handyman in no time.On the whole the property is great though and we hugely enjoyed our stay there.

Had every thing we needed for the week. It is a little tired and could do with new mattresses on double bed down stairs. We would happily come back again.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Watersons, we will definitely be returning again."

The views from Watersons are stunning, either from the big bay window in the lounge or from the decking at the side of the house. If you like bird watching you see some amazing birds too, we had a woodpecker right next to the windowsill. The cottage has everything you could need, in the kitchen there’s plenty of fridge/freezer space and is well stocked with utensils etc. The rest of the house has lots of thoughtful extras and the pool table is an added bonus. The bedrooms were all spacious and our beds were comfortable. We were told as soon as the house was ready by the kind house keeper so we could get in earlier than expected and it was all lovely and clean. There’s a big driveway and big garden so it’s perfect for dogs, ours didn’t want to leave. The location is just a minute from the Smugglers Inn and the coastal path and it’s a great location for exploring the surrounding areas by car too. Thank you so much for a great holiday in your cottage.

  • "Lovely comfortable accommodation."

Gorgeous view of both the sea and countryside from the large bay window, good sized garden with apple trees and blackberry bushes. Easy access to coastal pathway and very good pub down the road in easy walking distance. House was well equipped and supplied all we needed for a very enjoyable week’s holiday

  • "Lovely cottage with great sea views ."

Close access to the coast paths outside the Smugglers Inn 2 minutes down the road. Very handy after a long walk. Very nice outside sitting area with good garden chairs. We had a problem with some kitchen equipment, which was sorted out the same day we rang the office. The snooker table was a lot of fun. We felt the cottage was a little tired , perhaps the woodwork could do with a little paint. We had a very enjoyable week. We will be returning. Dorothy, Eddy and Jeff.

  • "In short, the owners need to inject some time, and cash into lighting, heating, plumbing and cleaning!"

The property has the potential to offer a large family a fantastic place to stay however, it sadly requires a lot of modernisation, and deep cleaning. Replacing the lighting along the outside steps should be considered a priority! The installation of a few solar lights is a simple, relatively cheap solution for both safety and security. Simply stating that “more than one torch is recommended”, should not be acceptable of any let. The property smells very damp/musty and there are only a few of the night storage heaters that actually work. The heating system needs replacing or repairing at the very least. There is a lovely wood burning stove in the large lounge that had not been cleaned out when we arrived and wood was not supplied. Therefore, you have to practically pay to heat the place by way of supplying your own wood, and whilst it put in a good effort, the small storage heater in the lounge does not suffice. A small bag of wood would have been a nice touch as indeed would a welcome pack of basics, e.g, milk, bread as offered by the majority of holiday lets. The plumbing is very noisy, in particular the toilets which are sani flow systems. The hot water, when it arrived was incredibly hot and as a result it is quite limited and takes ages to reheat. There really should be a warning about this to avoid scolding injuries. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of crockery and utensils, and all of the white goods were clean and in good working order. There is plenty of bedding (all of which looked and smelled freshly laundered) in the dreary looking downstairs bedroom. As is with most of the property, this room looks like it hasn’t been decorated for years. The bed and pillows seriously need replacing. Both the mattress and pillows are very old, lumpy and badly stained! Very disappointed with the lack of towels! There was one bath towel each and a small hand towel to share! I had to phone customer services to request clean towels only for a cleaner to arrive late in the day with two small hand towels! There is a large back garden accessed from both the side and rear off the property. Whilst the garden is somewhat enclosed, it is not completely secure as there is no gate to prevent pets escaping. To list all of the issues would take far too long and whilst there are many more I wish to end on a positive, chiefly that the property is situated in a fantastic position for exploring the Dorset coast and is in close walking proximity to a fabulous pub “The Smuggler's Inn”.

  • "We stayed over Christmas 2021 and throughly enjoyed our stay."

The housekeeper contacted us on day of arrival and had kindly put up a tree and left us a welcome card & biscuits. We had no issues throughout our stay. If there was a negative comment it would be that the cottage was a little tired . The views from the cottage were amazing and we had a very relaxing time. The pub was in walking distance and dog friendly and we enjoyed the walks along the coastal paths.

  • "Pros:This house has an astonishing view from several rooms."

It’s a spectacular location with a great local pub and right on the coast path. Lovely kitchen. Bright and well equipped. Very Pretty garden. Housekeeper in contact. Lots of games and pool table and very clean. Cons; Despite contacting Sykes twice, housekeeper had mot been given bed or high chair information. Furniture quite old and shabby, one picture window blind upstairs taped shut, tiny clothes rack (rusty ) - and for a lovely large house no where to dry anything. It rained and we had children with us but no tumble dryer or clothes line. Was very inconvenient. Local beach path closed so beach unsuitable for very young or anyone who can’t scramble.

Pool table was a real bonus!! Wish we had known beforehand that access to the beach was so restricted as the steps had been washed away over the winter. Nevertheless the walk to Ringstead Bay, about a mile, was well worth the effort.

Our family enjoyed the use of the pool/snooker table and having the opportunity to play the games or read the books provided. The kitchen was well equipped for all our needs. The location is lovely, we spent time on the decking overlooking the hills surrounding it looking at the deer and badgers. It was wonderful to see birds of prey circling overhead too.The children enjoyed playing in the garden, exploring, seeing all the different fruit trees. We are looking forward to returning to Waterson again as it was the best holiday we have had in all the 16 years we have been coming to Weymouth. About the location

OSMINGTON

Osmington village, sits on the Jurassic coastline of Dorset, just 6 miles from Weymouth with it’s infamous beach and historic harbour and just 11 miles from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Home to the famous Chalk hillside carving of George III on horseback, cut into the hillside to commemorate the Royal visits to Weymouth, this landmark can be seen from miles away. It is also the place that John Constable spent his honeymoon in 1816 and where he completed his painting of Weymouth Bay that now hangs in the National Gallery. The South West Coastal path runs through Osmington Mills, a tiny hamlet on the edge of Osmington. Here many walkers start their coast path walks at the Smugglers inn, where reputedly there are historic connections to smuggling. Be sure to visit to find out all the stories. A short drive will see you reach a local convenience store at Preston. Weymouth offers a larger variety of shopping, eating and entertainment choices.
