  • "A lovely stay at Keets, beautiful quiet location 10 mins drive to the coast."

It is off grid, so you need to be prepared for this. However, owners are local & very friendly and will go through everything on arrival. If you enjoy the countryside and rustic surroundings, this is a perfect break.

  • "The weather wasn't great, but it gave us a perfect excuse to spend some time enjoying the cosy shepherd's hut (the epitome of the Danish concept of hygge) and particularly its log-burning stove."

Between the showers, we enjoyed some lovely walks, including a couple to different beaches from the door of the hut itself. Further afield, we explored Weymouth, Portland Bill and visited Hardy's Cottage. There's a lot we didn't manage to do, so fully intend to return.

  • "The Keets is a cute abode on a piece of land where the owner gardens organically, but doesn't live there."

It looks very idyllic and you can use the whole garden to sit there. Even when it rains, you can sit in a greenhouse and drink your wine. The hospitable owner received us very kindly and can tell us a lot about walks in the beautiful surroundings. The living quarters are real camping and a bit spartan. ;-) The electricity is generated by two solar panels, but if the sun is not shining, you may have to take a cold shower. So use electricity sparingly! The bed sleeps fine. And the hot tub is fantastic. We used it a number of times, although it takes two and a half hours before the water is up to temperature! :-) In short, the stay is a bit primitive, but if you like that, you have an original and unique stay in The Keets of Middle Acre!

  • "Keets was a beautiful stay in a lovely setting."

The hut was well equipped and there were some lovely touches such as marshmallows and cookies on arrival. The hot tub was perfect once we worked out how to not over heat it! The outside space is lovely and relaxed with the sounds of the ducks providing a quite nice background noise. Roger was so accommodating and only too happy to help us which was appreciated.

What a amazing experience, have to be honest wasn't sure what to expect once we realised it was off grid, but what a truly memorable time. Roger and Michelle perfect host there to meet us on arrival and explain running of the place to us, and it was great to just walk to orchard and collect fresh produce as and when you needed it. What a little cutie sweet pea is, always ready for a little chat, when we were around. Would definitely recommend it and do it again. John and April Beeley

There is everything you need for outdoors, hammocks, loungers, bbq/smoker and a great hot tub. Do check out the rest of the place too, there are many seating areas and a wooden hut/sunroof kitted out with comfortable seating, complimentary drinks, books, suggestions for things to see and do in the area. We had a lovely welcome when we arrived, Michelle and Roger both gave us all the info we needed and were really helpful. The hut is incredibly well equipped, as well as having ample private outdoor space and set in lovely grounds. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to use the BBQ to cook in the evenings, but had we not been, the kitchen has a gas ring and plenty of pans that it wouldn't have been a problem to rustle up something easily. The fact that Keets is 'off grid' was great, no TV or wifi, so we could really switch off. The wood burner kept us toasty in the evening and the hot tub was a delight after a long day of walking along the SW Coast Path. Keets is really well situated for access to the coast path so you don't have to drive anywhere and only a short walk to the local pub. I'd definitely recommend staying. It was the perfect balance of rustic nature with luxury! The hut is small but so perfectly laid out, every bit of space is used effectively and the lovely owners have provided absolutely everything you could possibly need. They were also super friendly and helpful, providing tips for us useless city dwellers on how to set up the wood burner and also giving very clear instructions for local walks. We didn't use the hot tub in the end but it looked absolutely gorgeous. We explored the local area a bit and the pebbly beach is lovely but most of our time was spent enjoying the hut, lying in the garden reading, toasting marshmallows on the firepit and cooking a feast on the BBQ. As the listing says there is no wifi which is all part of the fun 'off grid' experience but there is perfectly good mobile and 4G signal if needed. The hosts kindly provide all the essentials you need for cooking, plus fuel for the wood burner, BBQ, firepit and hot tub. There was very reliable hot water and a lovely fully functional bathroom with a great shower - we couldn't believe they fit all of that plus a lovely comfy double bed into such a small space! The property

How does a cosy ‘Eco friendly’ holiday in rural Dorset complete with a wood-fired hot tub sound, Middle Acre is the perfect place to kick back and relax.

Small enough to care, with a pair of bespoke Shepherd huts tucked away and packed with all the essentials you could need for a self-catered stay including soft furnishings, throws, a double bed, kitchenette, en-suite shower and flushing toilet.

Solar lighting and wood burner makes for a snug off-grid stay with your own private cottage garden style space, with barbecue for alfresco dining.

The wood-fired hot tub ensures a good night’s sleep after star gazing the dark skies above.

Take the five wooden steps up into the hand-built shepherd hut and find a cosy open plan space furnished with vintage and repurposed furniture and fittings, the whistling kettle sits on the single gas hob, as the solar powered fridge chills your drinks.

Being off-grid with no electricity or no Wi-Fi shouldn’t mean you’re worried about being a bit too far off the beaten track, do not fret, a solar-powered socket will be provided for USB charging and the pub and local farm shop are only one and a half miles away.

Not only do you reduce your carbon footprint by holidaying in the UK, but these shepherd huts also have some great energy-saving features too, including solar-power, sustainable rustic interiors, environmentally friendly cleaning and washing products, and shower water is reused to irrigate the wildflower meadow and plants.

Home comforts can still be enjoyed from the double bed, heating, lighting, hot and cold running water, and flushing toilet provided.

Middle Acre is near the size of a football pitch, with Chestnut trees, fruit trees, flowers and a poly tunnel, whilst beyond the hut’s gate a gentle wander will lead to the beehives, kitchen garden and V E Garden, where you'll meet the free-range chickens, ducks, bantams and friendly farm collie Bea.

Middle Acre is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, ideally situated for a stroll to the Smugglers Inn or walk to the local farm shop and tearoom with freshly made ice cream and local produce.

Situated on the coastal path you can easily explore the undulating world heritage coast, walk to the iconic arch of Durdle Door and onwards to Lulworth Cove.

Early birds can be rewarded with stunning sunrises over the iconic Jurassic cliffs, a 30 minute amble from your hut, following the smugglers paths will bring you to the secluded shingle beach of Ringstead Bay.

Here you can drink in the views, and safely bathe in the still, clear waters.

In cooler months this is the perfect place for some invigorating cold water therapy.

Leave the car and traffic behind and walk into Weymouth with the stunning sea views from the coastal path and watch the fishing boasts unload in the picturesque harbour.

To enhance your stay, chat to us about producing your own veg at home, gardening advice and growing cut flowers; Roger will happily take you to see the friendly cows and show you the best places to explore local history and wildlife.

For thrill seekers, we can offer advice on the best places for coasteering, rock climbing and kayaking; alternatively, simply relax in your own private garden and make lunch from the on-site produce, unwinding in the dappled shade of the large chestnut trees and just breathe!
