  • "Absolutely lovely cottage."

    Good facilities and equipment….. the downstairs loo was a godsend - we have a son with disabilities so no traipsing upstairs! Yes parking can be troublesome but we found a spot every day - don’t let that put you off. Ideally situated… 2 minutes to very friendly pub and 5 minutes to harbour bridge! Our recommendation? An outside light …for sitting out and keeping an eye on your dogs which can leave the obvious!!

  • "We loved Mackeral Cottage and would love to go back another time."

    The location was ideal for the beach and The Old Harbour. We did have a couple of issues however. We could not stand up in the shower and, because there was no shower curtain or screen, the water went all over the floor. Also the dustbin had not been emptied from the previous resident’s rubbish.   • "We had a great stay with our two dogs."

    Like previous reviews, a chair or other surface to put things on in bedrooms and bathroom would be useful. Emphasise that telly only works if you log into existing subscriptions like I player, Prime (so you have a chance of finding password details etc before arrival) Perhaps a simple freeview box / tuner ? If its on the telly I couldn’t find it. Parking a challenge but not impossible. Otherwise great location. Great holiday had by us all

  • "Nice enough place however rubbish was left at the back of the property ( bin was full we arrived on Saturday) downstairs cloak is tiny difficult to use!"

    , there is a bit of damp in the dining area! I know the property is old but it surely could have been rectified by the right tradesman! Good location for a short break

  • "The house has clearly had a good level of investment in recent times and is well decorated, very clean and tidy with new boiler, white goods, TV."

    We had a good stay (apart from parking nonsense below…) with easy walking access to the harbour and beach. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large with a good size bath and plenty of water, although it’s not possible to have a ‘stand up’ shower as the ceiling height prevents this. The downstairs toilet should have an extractor fan fitted and there is some further ‘making good’ required to the house brickwork maintenance. (Painting) Nevertheless we were pleased with the house. PARKING IS A MINEFIELD AND SPOILED OUR STAY! Access is tight for cars. On street parking is not impossible. We were expecting to empty the car in front of the house and then find parking. Unloading is tricky as there is no pavement and space for one car on the single lane narrow road – so if a car comes you need to drive around the block or reverse into a very tight space indeed. A kind adjacent neighbour told us that the gravel strip to the south east of the property was permissible for parking to all. We parked there and on return were both blocked in and greeted with an unpleasant note. The note claimed we took three slots………………. Not true The note said it’s residents only………………………..Not correct The note made reference to preventing emergency access…… we made no difference to emergency access in any way - a ridiculous comment. The Note made derogatory comments. There’s clearly a level of territorial self-entitlement nonsense about rights to parking and access for residents only on this wasteland. A ‘Mrs Cooper’ from Franchise Street left the poorly considered and untrue vitriolic note. We were unable to locate or discuss this with her. The parking problems prevented us from being able to check out on time. (about 30 mins.) The cleaner arrived, stood in the street and would not communicate with us as at all and pretended to be on the phone to avoid communicating in any way. We would have gladly allowed her in the house but the lady wouldn’t even raise her head. I did ask her if she knew Mrs Cooper and she said no and then looked at her phone again. A bad end to a pleasant stay. Tips: Pre Plan parking off site and expect to pay up to £24 per day and be careful of hefty fines

  • "Everything about the cottage is lovely, except one of the main features we look for is a garden to sit out in."

    This garden was overgrown blocking most of the sunlight and full of flies which prevented use of the garden. The seats in the conservatory are uncomfortable. The TV is a bedroom tv and far too small for a lounge. On positive issues everything else is great, easy access to town and very clean.

  • "The cottage lacks many facilities."

    There isn’t an iron and ironing board, no kitchen roll, no washing machine, no hand soap and hand towel in the kitchen, which means that if you use the very small toilet in the kitchen with no sink in it, you then have to walk upstairs to the bathroom to wash your hands. The TV in the lounge is far too small. There are no mirrors in either bedroom, so drying hair, my wife putting on her makeup etc was impossible. Lack of drawers/storage in bedrooms. There isn’t a proper shower, only a hand held one, and as the ceiling over the bath slopes, you can’t stand up if you’re tall. No shelves etc in bathroom. Parking was difficult, so we ended up on a nearby paying car park. We left a day early, and wouldn’t return.

    Thank you very much for your feedback. Acting on this we have now put in a larger TV, added a clothes hanging rail in the twin room, a mirror in the master bedroom and an iron and ironing board. Property Owner

  • "This was a fabulous cottage - spotless and finished to an excellent standard, in a superb location with lots of amenities, pubs and restaurants within a short walking distance."

    The only issues were the lack of parking and limited storage space at the property. Although the parking was mentioned in the listing, it’s not until you get there that you realise that everyone else is trying to park in the same limited spaces in the neighbouring side roads and you may end up quite a distance away. This wasn’t too much of a problem for us as we didn’t use the car all week, so once we found a space we were sorted! The property could have done with a few things for storage, such as a wardrobe in the second bedroom and a shelf in the bathroom. A chair in the main bedroom would also be useful to drape clothes for those of us who are a bit lazy! The only other thing would be the addition of a few basics in the kitchen such as kitchen roll, foil, a hand towel and a full soap dispenser, all of which you can do without, but just make things a little easier… However, the overall experience was fantastic - a delightful, recently refurbished, clean property in a peaceful location with easy access to the town amenities. We even had fantastic weather!! What more could anyone ask for?

  • "Lovely cottage!"

    Great position, really comfy bed. Loved the garden. Nicely decorated! The only downside was no real shower, And need a bigger tv in lounge! A washing machine would be good! Rather than a dishwasher? A mirror is needed too! As I wanted to do hair and makeup and had to take mirror out of bathroom to put near an electrical cable to dry my hair! Took no time to walk to the harbour and we got to park almost outside.
