  • "Farrier's Lodge is in a great location."

It is on the main road but there was no problem temporarily parking outside to unload and load and the parking space was easy to find. The central heating was on and the cottage was warm and cosy throughout our stay in freezing conditions, thank you. The mould in the downstairs bathroom and the ceiling above the shower in the upstairs ensuite remains but it didn't bother us and is difficult to eradicate in an old property. We stayed for 3 nights.

The property

Farrier's Lodge, formerly the blacksmith's cottage for Corfe Castle, with its workshop next door, and situated in the heart of this historic and charming traditional Dorset village. It is a lovely, thatched, cosy cottage sleeping up to four people, and located just a stone's throw from the village square and the iconic castle itself. This stylish cottage is decorated and furnished with a contemporary palette of blue and grey.

A very cosy cottage with excellent bedrooms and comfortable beds.

The sitting room is perfect for relaxing on the comfy sofas, watching TV or reading a book.

There is a well-equipped kitchen with quality appliances to prepare meals and snacks. Step outside to the garden straight through the French doors in the ground floor bedroom, or via the lounge, and enjoy an afternoon playing games, sunbathing or just having a picnic.

The garden is beautiful and well stocked with plants and flowers, gardeners attending the property intermittently throughout the year for essential garden maintenance. Farrier's Lodge is the ideal base to explore the Studland peninsula and Purbeck.

It is a walker's delight with an abundance of walks right from the doorstep in every direction. The iconic medieval and National Trust owned Corfe Castle ruins and the steam railway are just a short walk away.

There are regular events and activities for families and children to enjoy when exploring the castle and a grandstand view of the landscape around.

A short drive away from the village is Studland with its three beaches, and protected heathland which is a sanctuary for wildlife including many rare species. Just a few miles away is the popular resort of Swanage with its array of shops and an award winning golden sandy beach.

Swanage boasts a variety of cuisines but do try a Dorset cream tea and other local produce, especially freshly caught fish or a tasty crab sandwich.

If you are feeling more adventurous you could take a walk to the breathtaking Old Harry Rocks. This cosy and welcoming cottage in Corfe Castle is a wonderful base to explore Purbeck and all the delights around.
