  • "Mayflower Flat 1 is a lovely holiday accommodation."

It is a decent sized 2 bed flat, had everything we needed, was very comfortable, and warm. It has a private parking space, plus we could also use the one next to it, and it's within 5 minutes walk into Swanage centre. A proper home from home.

  • "Great position for the town and beach and have stayed here 2 yrs ago ."

The apartment hasn't changed much but needs a refresh. Dining chairs uncomfortable. Sofas to soft and dated. Bedroom furniture now old single bed broke because of previous poor repair and broke again two days later due to bad repair again. We were told new beds are due to replace these. Also we stayed for two weeks and usually the bed linen and towels are changed weekly at other places we have stayed in Swanage but not at this flat . Again great position and parking for beach but needs a refresh won't stop here again though .

The apartment has a new carpet in the hallway and living room which was fitted in January this year. New bedroom furniture was fitted in the main bedroom last year. There is a new TV, oven, blinds, curtains and more; in short, I think a lot has changed since your last visit. One bed in the single room was broken the week previously with a child jumping on the bed, new beds are on order. As soon as it arrives it will be fitted. I have spoken with the handyman following your complaint and he has fixed the bed both times in a timely, professional manner. He did explain that he thought he had enough wood the first time but unfortunately that was not the case, and a second repair was sadly required. Both repairs were carried out in the first week of your stay. He also mentioned that you were welcome to sleep in the other bed as that one was empty. You are only my second customer to have stayed 2 weeks. Following your feedback I will ensure that for all future customers booking for 2 weeks, I will ask about a linen/towel refresh before their stay. However, there is a telephone number provided, which you could have called for the towels and linen to have been replaced. I will also look at making the number clearer in the book for future customers. I agree the sofas are looking tired and I am replacing them this Winter. I hope you find another property which you enjoy more, so you can continue your visits of Swanage; a town we both clearly love. I thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The property is well located for Swanage, and good parking."

The beds were very comfy. Just two faults. 1. The key safe could be in a better place. As elderly people would struggle to get to the safe. 2. The place was not particularly clean when we arrived. We found a used tissue in one of the bedroom draws. It hadn't been vacuumed properly. There was no bedside lamp in the small bedroom. Having said all that we would come again.

There was however NO signs of mould. We used tge dehumidifier constantly and it soon disappeared within a couple of days. (By the way the older dehumidifier in the lounge did not extract a single drop of water in 12 hours. The new one from the hall was brilliant) Cutlery was generally grubby but a cycle in the dishwasher sorted that. The fabric sofas are soft and smell slightly. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning

We did find bits of cereal on the carpet in the sitting room and was surprised there was no hand wash in the bathroom. Overall the flat was clean and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped .There are only five steps to the property which are manageable as I have knee problems.Overall I would recommend it. I would certainly book again .

  • "My first impressions of Mayflower were not great."

Firstly being elderly we struggled to open the key safe as it was almost on the floor, we had to kneel down (not easy at our age) good job it wasn't wet when we arrived. Quilt covers and pillow cases hadn't been ironed, so looked scruffy which made us check to ensure they were clean, which they were. After that our holiday was perfect. The flat was spacious, clean and had everything you could wish for. It is so convenient to sea and town and was able to get around easily without driving which was great. Anyone who may struggle with steps should note there are 5 steps down to flat. Also there is a short climb up from beach which could prove an issue if like us you have breathing difficulties. Having said that we loved our stay there and would return.

It was nicely decorated and had everything we needed. The flat is a short easy walk to the seaside and into town, (useful if you have children!) and there are lovely walks you can do from the doorstep. We had no trouble fitting our Skoda Octavia onto the car parking space. We only had one set of keys but we managed because there is a key safe. We would be happy to stay here again.

  • "Yes, to providing feedback and feel also this feedback needs to be published as consumer laws are been broken from this holiday rental."

It is not as described and owner has lacked in providing reasonable care and skill. Do not stay here. When we arrived we noticed the place was very damp and when looked up at ceiling of smaller bedroom (where my asthmatic son was meant to sleep) it had clear, visible Mould spores all over the ceiling, and on further inspection evidence of Mould and cover ups all over the flat, particularly the bedrooms and the living room, clear visible Mould and condensation/ damp on the windows and corners of the rooms, to the point the a salt dehumidifier pot was hidden behind the sofa. Photograph evidence was taken, sent to Sykes and owner, owner not interested, slow to respond and when did said nothing wrong with flat and was negligent about the condition of the place, which is well know to the owner from the cover ups and salt pots on windows. It is well known Mould is hazardous to health, especially those with respiratory conditions and can make you feel unwell and has health implications, the property was not advertised as having Mould, being damp and dusty, and you do not expect to pay to go on holiday and stay in a place like this, let along the poor negligent response of the owner. I strongly do not recommend staying in the place, mayflower, swanage and I am concerned that the owner is able to rent it out in this condition to others, if it wasn’t a holiday rental the councils environmental health would want to conduct an assessment on the property. I really hope Sykes cottages looks into this further from this feedback and my verbal feedback and all the messages on the portal. Needless to say it ruined our much needed holiday and not what we were Sold/signed into. Very disappointed.

I was first contacted by Sykes on Saturday at 3pm and I sent my maintenance man into help. He explained had been sent by myself in order to help them. He reports back to me and notifies me of anything that needs addressing. He told me he agreed with yourselves that the ceiling was an issue, and that it had patches on it and that condensation on windows does occur, it does not mean the place is damp. There was nothing else pointed out to maintenance in relation to cleanliness. You asked him for a dehumidifier which he explained that given the time now, he would bring this to them in the morning. Sunday AM, he went back to drop off the dehumidifier. He also explained that he had spoken to me about the ceiling and that this would be repainted on the 23rd. He also showed them around another flat which is on Sykes books and was currently empty, he said I am sure the owners would come to an arrangement. He informed me that you declined to move. You decided to stay at mayflower for the rest of the week. Sunday PM I was given a receipt via Sykes for £140 for a dehumidifier after I had already purchased for the property. I was then made aware that you wanted a full refund. This was declined as I had taken steps in order to rectify the problems raised and declining to another property. I have contracted specialists who have assessed the property and have reported no issues relating to damp, they have suggested to replace the extractor fan in the bathroom which will be completed on 23/11. About the location

SWANAGE

Wareham 9.7 miles; Poole 20 miles.

The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town offers visitors plenty of shops, good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July. The attractive, Victorian wooden pier offers a great place for a stroll or try fishing, and often used a departure point for divers, it’s a wonderful place to watch the world pass by. The historic Swanage Railway has its terminus in the town and regular nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists for a picturesque 6-mile journey, chugging through lovely countryside to stop just beyond the romantic ruin of Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers a lovely day out with spectacular coastal walks, dolphin spotting and wildlife watching, together with comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe for a treat after all the fresh air. Take the short drive to Studland, which has one of the finest beaches in the country, surrounded by heathland, together with the regular chain ferry, which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour to Sandbanks. This truly is a delightful holiday destination at any time of the year.
