  • "What an excellent cottage especially for us dog owners."

The photos really don't do this accommodation justice. Everything was spotlessly clean, the cottage is spacious and has everything you will need and more. The owner provided a very useful welcome pack with tea, milk, sugar, biscuits and a nice bottle of wine. It was a privilege to meet her and what a lovely person she is. We had a wonderful week despite the poor weather! Thank you!

A lovely rural quiet location, down a short farm track. A welcome by the owner Pat, who was on hand if there were any problems (which there were not). We also much appreciated the welcome pack including tea and milk! A short drive to Totland for newspapers, and shops nearby. We enjoyed our second visit to the property and would not hesitate to book again.

  • "This was our second stay at this cottage and a warm welcome again from Mrs Pat Hayles."

The cottage was clean and tidy, very well equipped for a holiday cottage. We are only a couple with one small dog, but the cottage is very suitably equipped for families with children and dogs. Contrary to another reviewer stating that the garden is not secure, it IS secure, and our dog loved it. The cottage is surrounded by fields with sheep in them at times and rabbits also, so any unsupervised dog would be tempted to find a way to escape. There are plenty of footpaths around for walkers and it is very peaceful and quiet here with no passing traffic as access to the cottage is via a bridle track. We have booked to return in 2023.

  • "As a former holiday home rental owner I know the standards holiday-makers expect, and this does not live up to even basic standards."

Primarily the cottage needs a DEEP CLEAN, paying attention to skirting boards in ALL rooms, behind furniture, and behind the toilet which looks as though it has never been cleaned. Plastic shower tray and shower curtain are way past their best and should be updated. The king size mattress is too hard for comfort and the duvet grubby and needs replacing. The sofa & chairs all grubby dralon, not covers as in your photos, and carpet could do with shampooing. All windows dirty. Garden overgrown restricting light into the cottage, and omitting any sunshine. Garden proved to be NOT SECURE and dog escaped.

  • "Our dogs rate this cottage as one of the best they have ever been to."

They loved the secure garden . We enjoyed our holiday too. The cottage was clean ,comfortable and peaceful. Well places for exploring the west of the island. The steps to the double bedroom are steep and would benefit from a hand rail for older guests. The shower is a little snug for big people. However the bed is very comfortable and the sitting room is cosy and comfortable. We would love to return here it is a little gem .

  • "This is a very old cottage but very roomy, well equipped and comfortable, in a very beautiful part of the Isle of Wight, just over one mile from The Needles."

We are just a pensioner couple with two small dogs but the cottage can easily accommodate a family with children and baby. The photos do not give full justice, the cottage is very roomy with a decent size secure garden for children and dogs. Outside the main cottage entrance there is a large outdoor garden table with adequate seating around to accommodate a family. There is also a picnic bench with umbrella, outdoor lights, adjacent to a built in BBQ. It is very dark here at nights but there are security lights at garden gate entrance that illuminate the car parking area and large part of the garden by the gate (very useful for those arriving back in the dark). The cottage is very well equipped including a washing machine for those who need to use one. There is a small tumble drier also in an outhouse that also had necessary equipment to use the BBQ, The owners have thought of everything to ensure guests have a nice holiday. For those who cannot live without phones, tablets and laptops there is a very respectable WiFi reception. Be aware that there are three steps up to the main bedroom, BUT that reflects the true age of the property and it’s history. The cottage is surrounded by fields with sheep in the adjacent field at time of writing this review. There are plenty of footpaths here for walkers, Alum Bay and Freshwater Bay are short walks away. Being a short distance off a main road it is very quiet and peaceful with no vehicle traffic passing the cottage (just a few walkers). We arrived in October in heavy wind and rain but the cottage has very efficient central heating and we dried off quickly. The owners live in the adjacent property further along the track and Pat checked in on us after arrival us to ensure that all was ok and again on our leaving. We have booked to come back in 2022 but for longer.

  • "The cottage is far more spacious than it looks in the photos and was a perfect base for exploring the island with our family and two dogs."

The garden is pretty and a lovely place to relax after days out and to BBQ. The owner greeted us with a warm welcome and left tea, milk and biscuits for our arrival. The surrounding hills make it a peaceful and pretty location, with no light pollution it is great place to view the night sky too! Would definitely like to return and we did not want to leave after our lovely holiday.

  • "The owners of the property were very friendly and excellent in corresponding with us."

They also very kindly left us a box of essentials for when we arrived (albeit the milk had gone off), but the wine, tea, biscuits etc were lovely. The property is located perfectly for people with pets that may bark, or children that shout and scream, as no-one is close enough to be disturbed by any noise, and with the securely enclosed garden, again this was perfect. My poor smiley face reviews were due to the following: Lacking wifi (we knew this when we booked, but nowadays should really be a standard. The double bed had an extremely uncomfortable cheap, hard mattress, that I think had definitely seen a lot of years use. The decor in the lounge really needs updating, it is very tired from around 1980. Items such as the blinds in the bathroom were rotting and very dirty. All that said this was reasonably priced cottage, for what you got. But it could be amazing with a few changes like putting in a log burner for instance. If all you are looking for is a place to sleep, at a good price, and not worried about your surroundings this will suffice.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Stonewind Farm, we really do appreciate receiving feedback. Since your stay we have purchased a new double mattress, we have replaced the blinds in the bathroom and are currently in the final stages of having WIFI installed. It would be lovely to have you stay at Stonewind farm in the future. Property Owner

The garden was great for our dog, who really enjoyed his time here, and there were lots of very pleasant walks nearby. The kitchen was well-equipped - but having been self-catering with Helpful Holidays (now part of Sykes) for over twenty years we know what to expect. Pat, who was a very friendly owner, kindly provided beautiful flowers in a vase and tea and cookies. I think the only thing that confused us was the listing suggestion for six adults which would have been a squeeze. As it happened, four of us plus dog managed fine and the teenagers will miss the very comfy reclining armchairs and our bedrooms were also cool and comfortable - even in the hot weather.

The location is wonderfully peaceful, but still close enough to all the local amenities, and many of the local cafes and restaurants are dog-friendly. If you have dogs, just note that the garden does have a few big gaps in the hedge, so escape artists may need to stay on a lead. ;-) For a dog-friendly holiday though, it's ideal. I'll be back.
