  • "The location of a property on the seafront was a prerequisite and it did not disappoint."

However there are serious access issues :- 1. The gates to the carpark were permanently open and hence parking was insecure (worse than parking up outside as anyone could wander in and remain undetected). 2. A previous reviewer noted that the lift was broken and when we arrived it was "Out of Service". Therefore either it had not been functioning for weeks or it had broken down again. We had the inconvenience of hauling baggage up three flights of a narrow, steep, winding staircase. The lift was "fixed" during our stay but there was always a nagging doubt whether or not we would arrive at our destination as the doors sometimes did not shut properly. 3. The key pad for the side door did not function when the code was input. By chance, the owner of the downstairs cafe was outside and told us the press the "Tradesman's" button for access which worked. If we had not bumped into him, we would have been none the wiser. He was aware it had been broken for a long time. Beggars belief. 4. The numbers on the entrance door lock box are extremely difficult to read even with the additional light and the box is set at a height for giants. As a general note, the building has been designed by an Architect to look pretty rather than for the benefit of people who actually have to live in it eg The kitchen area is so dark the lights always needed to be on even in broad daylight, rabbit warren of corridors, badly positioned columns in the basement making parking a car a major operation.....

We are sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. The car park gates remain open during the day for the convenience of guests. There has never been a problem with undetected wandering. Apologies if the lift was not working when you arrived for your stay but I am pleased to hear it was fixed. So sorry to hear you were unable to use the keypad to gain access and that the keybox was too high for you. I shall send a stern note to the architect and perhaps he or she will have the sense to ask your advice before designing their next building although I am not sure we can blame them for any rabbits in the corridors. I believe the columns in the basement are there to prevent the building falling down but then I’m no expert on architecture. I do hope that despite the design of our building you enjoyed your time in West Bay. Property Owner

Could be a nice place .Did not leave feedback in the book.

We apologise for the lift not working. The HOA are currently looking at a new lift service company as the current one appears incapable. We checking the light switch and found no faults but will keep and eye on that. We feel the living room window does not require a blind and certainly not a drape in front of the door. We have not attempted to watch the TV during the day. We did check the work surface and whilst we could not see any dirt we have advised Lyme Bay Holidays who manage the cleaning. I guess settees are slightly personal and we have found in comfortable. Back to the stairs and lift, as it’s only a couple of flights of stairs we normally walk and found them easy. Hopefully the lift will back in action for those who don’t like stairs. Property Owner

  • "Apartment was good as previous visits."

BUT the lift not working for 5 days greatly impacted our stay. We also found the ground floor entry keypad did not work from day 1 and we reported this but through trial and error we pressed the trades button which worked BUT our concern that anyone could enter!. On the bright side Mia who works in the local office offered and arrived to take our luggage down to the basement. She was a delight and without her help we would have struggled. Unfortunately because of the lift problems we will not be staying at the Octopus again .

  • "Garage gates open without code poor security Parking area poor from limited space too narrow Parking area non clean and very wet No lift to second floor for 2 days (Thurs and Friday) Lift and stairways dirty poorly maintained Doors from garage parking area into apartments left open for workmen?"

Gloomy apartment with poor view Windows in appartment only overlook other buildings View only through door? to non existent balcony Called Juliet balcony which means no balcony really only a glass door with a barrier to stop any one falling to the ground Cleaning mops in cupboard smelt and the cupboard looked like a dogs breakfast Sorry but the description given left us to believe it was a well looked after property alas it wasn’t

We are sorry to hear of your experience. The buildings are a mixture of residential and private holiday lets, with the communal areas, including the lifts, being maintained by a management company. We were not made aware of any works taking place around the parking area, and will pass your feedback onto the owner. We hope that you enjoyed visiting West Bay and the surrounding areas. The Lyme Bay Team The gates are open in the day and do not pose any security risks. The car park is clean but when it rains it does get wet and it has been very rainy. Apologies if the lift was out of action for a couple of days. The apartment is bright and has great views as you can see from the photos on the Lyme Bay web site. It is also very well maintained and has been redecorated in the last month. The Juliet balcony is exactly what a Juliet balcony should be. We are sorry the apartment didn’t live up to your expectations and it is unfortunate there was rain so the car park was wet. The owner Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely 3 night stay."

Thank you for the complimentary bottle of wine. Good size apartment with a view of the sea. Off road parking was a bonus. Was disappointed that the coffee machine had used pods left in it. Disappointed that the main entrance door could be released at any time of the day or night via the tradesman button. Poor lighting leading to the main entrance. We would recommend this apartment to friends, just a few tweets would make it perfect.

We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your comments. We will make the building management company aware of your feedback regarding the lighting and main door access. The Lyme Bay Team We apologise for the fact the coffee machine had used pods in it and we have asked Lyme Bay Holoidays to remind the cleaner to ensure that it is cleaned and empyied in the future. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Excellent. Exceeded some of our expectations."

Happy to use Lyme Bay Holidays again. Should have more specific microwave and TV instructions. Drain to shower in en suite slow to clear. Would have liked a special recycling rubbish bin. Otherwise very good.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Instruactions for appliances are in the information box and that should include the television and microwave. I shall ask Lyme Bay Holidays to check that. Thank you for advising the drain in the showers is slow clearing water again I will ask Lyme Bay Holidays to check that too. There are seperate recycling bins outside but not in the apartment. We shall look at that. Again thank you. Property Owner

Lots of room as it was just my wife and I. We slept in the on suite bedroom, the bed was really comfortable. The welcome gift of water and a bottle of Pinot were most appreciated.

The swivel chair was broken and when we arrived so we contacted lyme bay holidays and it was removed by maintenance promptly. We did sadly miss it as my 85 year old father finds the sofa a little low .

From the pictures supplied on the website we did not realise that the open balcony door did not lead onto a balcony. Very upset that we could not secure the property as the key safe was difficult to see and to operate, leading to a phone call to the office.

  • "This was our first apartment holiday , we usually go in a caravan."

It was a lovely surprise to see the space and the view. We have been to Westbay many times but to wake up and see that view every morning was worth it. The apartment was clean and welcoming. The little touches were lovely. The only thing wrong was the freezer was iced up. That would not stop me booking again which we will do.

  • "Amazing location and excellent property."

The owner has put real thought into the facilities and what's available within the property like the cool bags, umbrellas and macs, little touches but very helpful. The lift was out of use and it would have been helpful to have a heads up on this before arriving, however it is out of the owners control. I can't recommend this property enough and we have already decided we will be returning.

  • "Our stay was spoilt by 2 major problems."

The allocated parking space was too small ,when I managed to get parked in the space there was not enough room to get out of my car. It would have been very useful to have been told what the visitors spaces were. On Thursday 16th June the lift was out of order that left us 4 days and our check out without the lift working. I am in my late 60s and have asthma so it was a real problem getting up and down to the apartment. Our holiday was spoilt because of these issues.
