  • "Apart from a few minor issues, the main area for comment is the inadequate storage space for clothes in the bedroom."

It is acknowledged that the limited space is as a result of the very small room but would it be so difficult to add extras storage capability in the main room eg. a small (disguised) wardrobe. It is also a pity that something cannot be done to level the track done to the property.

  • "We loved our stay at Washingpools & are considering a return visit in the future."

The bed was very comfortable (lovely sheets, duvet cover & pillows). The sofa was also very comfortable We loved looking out & seeing wildlife around us which even included, on one balmy night, Glowworms in the long grassed meadow, a rare occasion for us, my wife had never seen one & it was only the 2nd time for me. Actually a rare event at the start of autumn. The cottage is very close to Chesil Beach (visible from the cottage), an easy/delightful walk & very handy if intending to do some fishing. Now a few criticisms, the entrance door should have a translucent sticker on it so the plain glass panel is visible, my wife walked into it after I had closed it behind her after she had gone out, luckily no physical harm was caused. The wetroom would benefit from having a long-handled squeegee to aid drying out (we used a mop we found), perhaps a shower curtain to restrict the shower spraying the toilet & plain wall next to it. The bedroom is snug & a couple of times I at over 6 foot bumped my head on the shelf which supported the clothes hanging rail (I realise nothing can be done about this, I should have learnt after the first time, but worth warning the unwary like me.) While we were staying one evening we had monsoon-type rain & yes as the note attached to the wood burner was correct, water leaks in when there's heavy rain, It filled a mug in a couple of hours, I think this is a repair that should be a the top of the list to prevent further damage. Lastly, considering this cottage is for 2 people why are there 4 chairs at the table? Only two would mean more room.

  • "It was nice to see that the outside furniture had been replaced since I went last year."

Also new settee although I personally didnt find it as comfortable as the old one. Also a wooden stand in the shower was a benefit. I only wish the parking could be changed so you didn't have to reverse over the hump in the track as it takes a lot of power to get over it and park in the space. Didn't do my clutch any good and puts me off going in and out. I wouldn't want to be there in continual rain as I dont think I would find it easy to get out. I've been lucky on the three times that I have visited. The position is ideal if you want a relaxing break with your furry companions. It would be useful to provide an update on the condition of the walk through the reeds to the beach as it was almost impossible to get through this time. The mud nearly topped my wellies as I sunk into it and nearly got stuck.

The sofa people have complained about has been replaced. The bed was very comfortable, there is a bit of a walk from the car park area which some might struggle with (wheelchair users etc) as the ground is a little uneven. My dogs really enjoyed their stay. 100% would stay again and we do frequent many cottages.

On arrival we were unsure exactly where to park as the sign was missing and although advised that the access was "off the beaten track' some photos of this would make it possible to make an informed decision as to whether it would be suitable for your vehicle.

  • "One criticism relates to the properties facility with respect to a power cut which we had on the Saturday, 28th October."

There were no matches provided to light the wood stove which we may have needed during the power cut through loss of heating.. Secondly it became evident that there was a water leak around the stoves chimney. This was apparent as the top of the stove was wet and during the first storm the leak became very noticable. Apart from the above the property is very good for a short break and we have visited a few times before. The pre-changover check up needs tightening. It was unfortunate that we had the power cut and a storm.

The track down to the property is becoming rougher every year and there is a large pot hole at the entrance to the track down. It has all the basic facilities you need for a great stay. The position and views are wonderful and its so easy to walk to the beach or travel to different areas of interest. The access is as it states off road and the turning area to park is tricky due to the large hump in the concrete . This really could do with being sorted out to avoid damage to the underside of vehicles. If the weather is wet it becomes even trickier to navigate. A few maintenance problems such as the metal trim on the kitchen window which kept falling off ,broken outdoor chair and broken washing machine were brought to the attention of dream cottages and dealt with appropriately. I enjoyed my second stay tremendously especially with brilliant weather and my dogs had a great time. Ive already booked again for next year. On

The 5 minute walk to the sea over mown paths was delightful. After three months of lockdown this place was such a tonic. Inside it is quite simple but well considered and unobtrusive and comfortable. Recent changes to the property have not been positive. The doors to the bathroom and bedroom do not latch. There are no shelves in the bathroom for toiletries any more. When we arrived, storm Alex was with us, we wanted to light the stove but no logs available. We tried phoning Dream Cottages for some assistance on this, but no reply. Tamarisk Farm is organic and in previous years there was recycling of rubbish and a compost bin for vegetable waste, but no more. The farm has a shop, but there is no mention of this in the visitor information book and it directs you to a farm shop on the other side of Bridport. It seems the cottage has been divorced from the rest of the farm, which is a shame. The location and views are still wonderful and hopefully can't be spoilt, so we will be returning.

  • "We have been to Washingpools before, so knew what we were going go get, but weren't sure how Coronavirus was going to affect our stay."

As it happened, very little - all amenities were still there, including toilet roll, kitchen roll, bin bags, towels and duvet/pillow case covers, cushions for the sofa, so we didn't feel this was any different to other holidays.. The only minor difference was a slightly later check in time of 5pm rather than 3pm to allow more cleaning time - no great hardship (and no change to check-out time of 10am). The place is exactly as described online, combined living room/kitchen with a magnificent sea view, wet room/toilet with shower, and a bedroom with a very comfortable double bed. Duvet was a winter one and the weather was red hot, but the week before had been the coldest August bank holiday ever, so this is completely understandable. As to the local area, the local hotel and cafe are still open for business, and happy to have visitors. The surrounding towns (Bridport/Weymouth/Lyme Regis) were all busier than usual for the second week in September, but we put this down to more people staycationing.. Having said that, the location of Washingpools at the bottom of a market garden, in a village with only one road in (which stops at the sea) is an ideal place for (self) isolation - we could easily have seen no-one for the entire week if we'd have stayed in and around the cottage. All in all, Washingpools in West Bexington is still a brilliant destination for a couple with or without a dog (any more may feel a little cramped).

About the location

WEST BEXINGTON

Abbotsbury 3 miles; Bridport 6 miles.

Lying next to the sea and Chesil Beach, equidistant between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, is the small village of West Bexington. This is a stunning area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an area of Special Scientific Interest - pebbled Chesil Beach, which extends for 14 miles, from Burton Bradstock to the Portland peninsula, is part of the Jurassic Coast and now a World Heritage Site. Fishermen and walkers are well provided for, as a great variety of fish can be caught at any time of year, and the South West Coastal Path runs right alongside the beach. Only confident swimmers should attept to swim here, but Weymouth, offering lovely, gently shelving sands, is only a short drive away. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of the village. No journey to this area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Abbotsbury, 3 miles, with its Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub Tropical Gardens, with Dorchester, Bridport, and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.

Note: max 2 people.
Note: no WiFi.
Note: whilst part of Washingpool's charm is being 'off the beaten track' and surrounded by countryside, please be aware that the access is quite literally off the beaten track! There is a short drive of 2-3 minutes down a private road which is bumpy and unmade in places. The last 20 yards from the parking area is on foot down a concrete slope to a small metal walkway over a pretty little stream and then a few steps across grass to the front door. Please do not deviate from the concreted area as you may get stuck in the mud.
