The side window has blown in the lounge. Fan in bathroom hanging out of ceiling, worse thing is twin bedroom absolutely smells of damp and vertical blinds have black mildew on them. (e mailed Sykes while there but no response as yet) bottom of wall in hall damp. I cleaned the toilet and the outside of front window in lounge as they were dirty. Used Sykes many times and it’s the first time we have had a problem. The bungalow is in serious need of some TLC including the back garden.

Has been modernised recently. However as is the norm with Sykes controlled properties - filthy windows (with lots of internal black mould), & badly maintained garden with poor outdoor furniture. Badly leaking bath - resulting in water coming up through hallway floor was promptly fixed by Dream Cottages chap. Serious water ingress issues remain with rain water dripping in above the kitchen & en-suite bathroom windows. Fab views, heating works well. Good place to stay if you not too bothered about the minuses I've raised.

  • "We have been to a number of properties through Sykes all very good & of a certain standard."

Sea Cliff, we felt did not meet up to our expectation of what we would get for our Money. We had a two week stay at Sea Cliff. Which is in a wonderful setting with spectacular views of West Bay the sea & the famous cliffs. However we felt that the property needed a little TLC from the owners. We felt for the cost it's was a very expensive stay. I could have lived with that had the bungalow been as I had hoped & a at the standard we have come to expect from Sykes. It boasts about the views from the windows in the living are. The window which is ceiling to almost floor the double glazing was shot & distorted the view. We felt the bungalow would benefit from some love. The garden was in need of some care. Insde the bungalow we felt the sofas were not very comfortable. The kitchen , dining living room was a good size. However there was a lack of cupboard space to put things like breakfast cereals , jam, marmalade coffee or tea etc. We felt there was plenty of plates bowls & glass wear but limited bowls to serve food in eg salads etc. There were no table mats & only two coasters for mugs. We felt a clock on the wall would be useful edition. Bedrooms were a good size & the bed we slept in was very comfortable. To sum up then we felt disappointed & in general the bungalow was a little impersonal & somewhat shabby. I'm sorry to say. I would not book that particular property again.

  • "The property is situated in an outstanding location; however, cleanliness was a cause for concern."

In our assessment, the property is in need of a through deep cleaning. We were dismayed to find dirty plates, saucepans, and flaking oven trays that had a detrimental effect on our dining experience. In addition, an old used mop in the cupboard was an immediate turn-off. There was a used cork on the floor, since we were travelling with an 18 month old it just put us off. To compound matters the dishwasher didn't work properly. It is clear that the property requires some much needed attention and care, a sentiment echoed by the overgrown path leading to the front entrance.

It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Great location for access to the town as well. A couple of points to note. Some of the plates are badly chipped. Didn't bother us apart from the worry that owners might think we had done it. There is a really foul smell outside the back door. Couldn't work out if it was a plant or cat wee....also when using the vacuum, made whole property smell of dog. None of this worried us...but might bother some people? We really loved our stay here, and would definitely like to stay again.

Also, it’s easier to park at the back of the property and unload so the key would be better located at the back door and details updated to say drive up third cliff road. Broken lock on bathroom door, I've seen this reported on at least 2 other occasions. • "We had a good holiday; however, I think it should be made clear to future holidaymakers that the garden is not pet friendly."

There is no fencing at the back or front, so dogs cannot roam free. Also, the instructions for the garage need amending. The black garage door has gone, revealing an open double garage; it took a while to realise this was the garage we should use. This bungalow could be difficult for elderly or disabled people. It is on a hill with several steep steps. Our party consisted of a 91-and an 80-year-old who both found the steps difficult to negotiate. Dream Cottages manage the bungalow, so don’t expect a welcome pack. You will get a very basic starter pack. Two dishwasher tablets, salt & pepper, and four tea bags. One toilet roll in each toilet and a small soap tablet for each basin. Compared to some owner-run properties, it was a sterile experience. Don’t get me wrong this bungalow is in a fantastic location with views to die for. However, if we had required help from Dream cottages during our stay I think it might have been a different story. I phoned 48 hours before setting off. My first call was in the evening and the office was closed. I rang the following morning and spoke to an apathetic assistant. She was unable to answer my queries. (She did email the answers later, however, it felt very impersonal). Luckily we had no serious problems and managed to sort out any issues. A small tool kit would have been useful when the on-suit shower didn't work, it's incredible what you can do with a nail file!

This was great for getting the morning paper and freshly cooked pastries for breakfast! However there were a few things that let the cottage down. The dishwasher is not full size and it was sometimes a struggle to get everything from the day in there, I think the description should mention it’s size. Likewise the fridge is small, although the addition of the small freezer in the cupboard did help. The description failed to mention that the TV has an integrated DVD player, I think future customers (particularly at this time of year) would appreciate knowing this. The duvets were not warm enough for this time of year and there were insufficient blankets/throws. The cottage smelt damp and there was evidence of damp.

On arrival we found the kitchen surface next to the sink absolutely swimming in water, had to find a cloth to try and dry this. The work surfaces were dirty and had to be cleaned as was the dinning room table. The cooker hob had not been cleaned in weeks. One of the mugs was missing. Because of the state of the crockery and cutlery we used the dishwasher to get them cleaned only to find that the dishwasher previously used still had the dishwasher capsule inside. The dishwasher was very temperamental, worked when it wanted to. The little larder freezer had not been cleaned in weeks still stuff in it. The plug on the iron was missing and all the wires showing, this was replaced by Dream Cottages. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. The door was off in the shower room bedroom and the wardrobe door hanging off. Bulb needed replacing in shower room. The twin bedroom floor and all skirting boards were dusty and the floors in all rooms had to be cleaned. Damp on wall in wardrobe in twin room. For the amount of money we spent on this accommodation we found it to be very unacceptable. After a long journey we did not expect to have to come and clean this property. We contacted Dream Cottages on the Saturday evening and the lady was very helpful and promised a carpenter the following day to rehang the doors. She was told of a number of things we were not satisfied with and said she would report this to the cleaning manager. To be honest for what we were paying the bungalow should have been in a much better condition than we found it. I think it is time that a painter/decorator was employed to sort things out. The guttering around the bungalow in most places was full of seagulls nesting materials and moss so that when it rained the water just overflowed. We were very, very disappointed and I would have thought that someone from Dream Cottages would have come to see us (and not when we were out as we would have waited to see them).

Also ( I did smile to myself on this) on arrival my husband tried to get the tv to work (football) I could hear him moaning about it whilst I was unpacking, finally he found the fault, the people who used Seacliff the week before us had changed the batteries around on the tv remote, stupid but there you go it takes all sorts. Although the work was going on in the harbour you could only hear the noise when you went outside so it really did not bother us and we had a wonderful time. My mother in law, who's 70th birthday was the reason for our holiday, ended up in the front bedroom with a bed that the mattress needed replacing sooner rather than later. She said there were parts of it that went down and found it rather uncomfortable. The other bedrooms were fine, the children had a lovely time as did we all. We were told it was not possible to move a nesting bird, which we understand. But the bird should have been moved on while nest building and not allowed to complete the nest. The local beach was mainly closed for coastal protection works. We were only told of this long after we booked . The works went on from early morning to late in the evening and were noisy. About the location

WEST BAY

Bridport 1.5 miles; Lyme Regis 11 miles

West Bay, fondly known as “The Gateway to the Dorset Jurassic Coast” and popularised by the TV series Broadchurch, lies close to the glorious sandstone cliffs of Golden Cap, at the western end of the dramatic pebbly Chesil Beach. This is a wonderful seaside location, perfect for family holidays, offering scenic walks along the South West Coast Path, as well as ample opportunities to try your hand at sea fishing, crabbing, boating and golf. Visit the homes of Thomas Hardy and TE Lawrence, the Tank Museum at Bovington or the Naval air Museum at Yeovil. Only 1.5 miles away is the vibrant market town of Bridport, featured in the TV series, River Cottage. The area holds plenty of attractions to suit the whole family! Just a short drive West takes you to Charmouth for fossil hunting, to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, and to River Cottage HQ near Axminster. To the East are the lovely Sub-tropical Gardens and Swannery at Abbotsbury, and the golden sands of Weymouth. This wonderful location makes an ideal base for a great family holiday.
