Recent updates include upgraded bathrooms. Only minor would be to update the kitchen equipment, an air fryer would be a huge bonus to the kitchen & would reduce the use of the electric oven. But otherwise would highly recommend, just be aware the driveway is narrow and needs to be manoeuvred with care, luckily I don’t park the car!

Well positioned and comfortable., warm and friendly. Excellent, large settees. Bathrooms/ showers are efficient, clean and fresh. Sunny well maintained garden. Sam is very helpful and efficient- text contact excellent. Have stayed in the cottage for the past five years and love it. Highly recommended for that special family break . Only slightly negative point is that the kitchen is a bit dated but still charming. We will hopefully be back next year. Thank you

If both cars were large it could be problematic to some people. Not sure if there is much that you are able to do apart from lengthen the spaces by about 2 foot into the garden apart from pre warning them (apologies if I did miss this in the property description) . It was however great to at least be able to park outside the door. Great little property and great location .

  • "Our second stay here."

We like the cottage a lot - it's well located and comfortable. Parking is limited, but this is covered in the listing and we've had no problem parking a large SUV - but it does depend on how big a car the reisdents of next door Little Ivy have. Cleanliness was good, but as it's dog friendly (and we had dogs), don't expect a pristine finish! Maintenance seems OK, but no plug for the basin in the en-suite was a pretty basic oversight.

We arrived in the evening and were meet with a really bad smell of humidity and mildew/mould. We were very uncomfortable there for our stay and spent all our time away from the cottage. The house (except bathrooms) is very dated and dark - not a nice place at all to stay. Also you forgot to mention the graveyard in the backyard. We tried to contact you on the email provided in the welcome book but it bounced back and does not work. We also texted the two numbers but never received a reply. • "Overall the cottage is in a pleasant location ( but parking tricky for large SUV ) ."

The facilities were generally good but please note the following At least two spare bath and hand towels should be provided ! I do not want to spend my time washing on holiday . Kitchen overall well equipped but only providing one dishwasher tablet and one laundry washing tablet is taking penny pinching too far ! . We had to purchase these items as the party included two children under age of 5 and four adults . No stair gate was available . It may not be easy to fit one but perhaps you should highlight this in your literature The furniture is looking very tired , smelt of dogs and my husband who is allergic to animal hair had to take anti histamines . I had not appreciated it was a dog friendly let but even so good cleaning should remove dog hairs I just felt it was all a bit grubby ! Sorry The en-suite shower needs ripping out ! The tiles are covered in black mould which quite frankly is unpleasant . Fortunately on the plus side there was always plenty of hot water . Beds were comfortable and sheets clean - although the king sheet had a rip in it . Also duvet too hot for mild weather - think there needs to be some alternative lighter bedding available. Overall Ivy cottage is in a good location but I think the interior ( bathrooms and sitting room in particular ) need updating . The rental cost is not cheap and I was disappointed to find the property had the above issues .

  • "Anyone thinking of renting this cottage should be aware that Ivy Cottage is semi detached to Little Ivy Cottage which is also a rental property."

It wasn't made clear when booking that the adjacent cottage was also a rental cottage. It was pointed out that the drive way was narrow. You need to be clear that the parking for Ivy Cottage needs to be reversed into, you will need someone to get out of vehicle to stop traffic and direct you in as position of space is dog legged round a low retaining wall. Garden furniture in a previous review I read said tired. Yes, I can confirm it was tired and only consisted of a pub style bench and two very tired chairs. Also as a dog friendly cottage you cannot open door to let your dog out into the garden you need to escort your pet into the enclosed part of the garden and the shared entrance means that your dog will/could come into contact with the other occupiers renting the Little Ivy cottage's dog which may be aggressive and bark constantly which was the case for us. The lounge overlooks onto a grave yard but given the low windows and height of graveyard literally tombstones are level with window. The cottage had a dehumidifier and this needed to be emptied on a daily basis. This wasn't mentioned. There was no grill handle that we could find. In a previous review a read the bath leaked, this was still the case. I filled a bath and washed my face in the sink and when I turned to get into the bath it was half full. The shower pipe in the en-suite disconnected from the shower box so my husband fixed it. We flushed the toilet in the en-suite and the water didn't stop running because the flush button had broken and had been glued. We could still flush toilet but had to leave the button off. In the main bathroom the plug was pushed down and couldn't be released as this had also corroded. Lulworth is a beautiful place and the cottage has potential but is was very dated and tired. A gardener turned up on a rainy day and took up both parking spaces. he said he would be there for two hours. The occupants next door had gone out for the day so his arrival meant that their dog was barking consistently. Given that you ask occupants to leave at 10am and do not let the next occupants enter until 5pm maybe they should arrange for the gardener to attend on that day? The washing machine was located in an adjacent out building located below our bedroom window. The washing machine is shared with the other cottage. The other holiday cottage occupants put washing on at night so a couple of nights all we could hear was the washer/dryer going round as it was hot and we had windows open. To be completely honest the cost of the holiday being over £2000 for 6 days did not equate to the quality of the cottage. We had a welcome pack of biscuits, small milk and a bottle of prosecco which I left behind. There was some fairy liquid and hand soap which was something. I love Lulworth and Durdle Door but we will probably book into the boutique hotel next time which includes breakfast, worked out more reasonable and had better parking and a bit more luxury. There is also only one TV located in the lounge. None in any of the three bedrooms.

  • "Ivy Cottage was very spacious and comfortable."

The owners have taken great care with the quality of furniture and fittings which was greatly appreciated. Everything worked and as regular annual cottage renters this was by far the best we have ever had. The small garden was fine and we watered the newly planted bedding plants. Reversing the car in off the road takes courage, but we managed it. Please pass on our gratitude to the owners for all the care and trouble they have obviously taken to make this cottage so appealing in every room. A great stay and a great place.

It is well placed 10/15 mins walk from the pretty cove with its lovely restaurants( booking ahead advisable) and delicious Ice cream kiosks. We had anticipated that parking might be an issue and having a fairly large car this almost stopped us booking however it was not an issue at all despite our neighbour having a transit van!! Would definitely stay again the only downside was the slightly uncomfortable beds, previous guests had mentioned a mattress topper which would be a good idea. Great for our 2 dogs they loved it too.

All facilities provided met our requirements. One parking space for the cottage was not ideal, but managed with street parking for the second car. • "For the owner: - the plug in the bath leaks - needs a new O-ring - the mixer tap on the bath is loose - needs tightening to the bath - the small cafetiere is missing the filter (!"

), needs replacing - radio - cottage could really do with a small radio. The CD players are a bit naff and the FM tuner on the one is pretty useless - the lounge could do with a couple of small lamps on the big window sills or a floor standing light (we borrowed a couple of bedroom table lamps - big improvement) Feedback: Delightful cottage, warm and comfortable, very well equipped. Having the wood burner going in the lounge made the cottage cosy and a pleasure to sit in and relax/read of an evening. Enjoyed having The Castle Inn right next door - great beer and good food. The ensuite bedroom at the back was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The two other bedrooms faced the road and were much noisier with traffic going past in the "rush hour". The cottage has been well fitted out with good quality furniture - has the most storage space we've ever seen in a rental cottage. We stayed in early January, so Lulworth and the pub were relatively quiet. We could imagine the road and pub would be much busier and noisier in season. Parking is an issue anywhere in West Lulworth, so having an off-road space is great - you just have to hope Little Ivy has a small car. Go and stay with the right expectations. We loved our week at Ivy Cottage - easy access to the cove and coastal walks, great pubs, cafes and restaurants. A beautiful, authentic thatched cottage to stay in.

The parking is very tight especially if the neighbour’s car is on the large size and not fully reversed in. It’s the first time in over forty years of driving that I’ve scratched a car. The DVD player had sound but no vision. There was a hairdryer that was intermittent, possibly the power cable is broken. We didn’t use the grill as it had an unpleasant smell, possibly fish. The bath plug leaks, if you’re hoping for a soak in the bath you’ll need to keep topping up the water. The central heating was very efficient, so don’t worry if you’re looking at having a winter break. All in all a nice place to stay with a few issues to be addressed. The locality is good for hikers and dog walkers. The road network makes it easy to get around Dorset. As for local restaurants, you’re spoilt for choice.

About the location

WEST LULWORTH

Wareham 9.1 miles; Weymouth 14.7 miles

West Lulworth boasts some of the most dramatic geological features on the Jurassic coastline and arguably the most photographed locations in the UK. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door sit at the heart of this area and really are a must see. Lulworth Cove has many little café’s and beachside shacks serving local seafood, ice cream and other delights, as well as several restaurants and pubs from which to choose. There is an Lulworth estate information centre which offers an insight into how the cove and Durdle door were formed and Jurassic history of the region. If you tire of Cove and cliff top walks then Lulworth Castle is a short drive away and offers another glimpse at some more recent history, along with Tyneham Village, and Corfe Castle. This is a really special area and the village retains a lot of it’s thatched cottages and has a real air of a rural retreat.
