  • "Of all the properties we’ve stayed in booked through Sykes this is the first one that didn’t have a Welcome Pack (sachets of tea and coffee- sometimes biscuits plus either milk sachets or milk in the fridge) thank goodness we had our own as nearest shop a couple of miles away."

There was a full dirty laundry bag left on the floor in the middle of the bedroom. Just little things but really let the property down.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We value your input and are sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations in a couple of areas. We understand how nice it is to have a small Welcome Pack to start your stay, and we apologise for the absence of that during your visit. While we don’t typically provide these packs, we always aim to ensure our guests are comfortable and have everything they need. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will certainly consider it for the future. We also apologise for the laundry bag being left in the bedroom. This is certainly not the standard of cleanliness we strive for, and we’ll be addressing this with our housekeeping team. However, we do hope you had a pleasant stay overall. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we are committed to making every guest’s experience better. Property Owner

  • "The property is an adequate base to relax in a lovely quiet part of Dorset."

The positives were the recliner chair in the lounge, decent shower, property is warm and lots of natural light upstairs with excellent views. Kitchen was well equipped and towels and bed linen good quality. We took our two small dogs who were only allowed on the floor of the downstairs living area which we didn't know until we arrived. The property details said up to 3 dogs welcome, but sadly it didn't feel like that when we read the rules on arrival. The bed is described as king size however it is only a double measuring 4ft 6in. We found sleeping difficult as we are used to a much larger bed at home. On arrival a bag of dirty bed linen and towels had been left just inside the front door. The neighbour next door who we guessed was maybe the owner agreed to remove and put in their shed, but it was still an unpleasant start to our mini break. Cleanliness of the property was a basic level. I found evidence of dust, cobwebs and grime in some areas and the furniture had clearly not been moved to thoroughly vacuum underneath. The worst thing I found was when I emptied the kitchen waste bin and it had food waste and filth at the bottom and had clearly not been cleaned or disinfected for weeks. Finally, maintenance was basic. The light in the kitchen only had one bulb working out of 3, the cooker door didn't close completely, the hoover wouldn't suck when I tried to use the tools and the non-stick frying pans had damage to their surfaces. Despite the disappointments we enjoyed our visit to the area but won't be booking this accommodation again.

Thank you for your review. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and are grateful that you took the time to share your thoughts with us. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the natural light, lovely views, and some of the property’s features like the recliner chair and well-equipped kitchen. We do our best to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment, and it’s great to know that those aspects of your stay were enjoyable. We’re sorry to hear that there were a number of things that impacted your experience. The points you’ve raised are certainly concerning, and we apologise for any discomfort this caused. Please rest assured that we are addressing these issues with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure a better experience for future guests. Regarding the bed size and the dog policy, we’re sorry for the confusion. We request that dogs stay downstairs to ensure pets are not on the beds, as we find this helps maintain the comfort of the property for all guests. We understand that these details are important for your stay and will review the information in our listing to make sure it’s clearer in the future. We value all guest feedback as it helps us improve, and we are committed to making the necessary changes to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable experience. We truly hope that despite the challenges, you were able to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful area. Property Owner

  • "We found Penny Corner to be very clean and comfortable and in a great location for exploring Dorset."

We didn’t have any problems during our stay.we had everything we needed. The village was very peaceful and nice to be able to pop into the pub for a meal with our dogs and despite the February weather we were able to explore local walks and the interesting church in the village. A lovely place to unwind - thank you.

Where you’ll be staying

WHITCHURCH CANONICORUM

Bridport 5.4 miles.

Referred to as the capital of the Marshwood Vale, Whitchurch Canonicorum is an attractive mix of farms and cottages. Whitchurch Canonicorum is where you can find the very ancient church of St. Candida and the Holy Cross. It is unique in being the only parish church in England to contain the remains of an ancient saint. There is a well nearby, also named after the Saint, which is also rumoured to have similar healing properties. The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.
