  • "Beautiful and quiet, set in the most perfect part of Dorset."

Easy distances from every important site in the County. The Mouse House is a haven of tranquility after some hectic visiting. Furnished with care and of very high standard. Our only criticism was the choice of mattress density, perhaps a good choice had we been 20-30 years younger. The kitchenette was well appointed and the shower was perfect and easy to operate. Overall a wonderful experience that enhanced our holiday experience.

Very convenient. The wi-fi was weak but this was not what we were here for! Most items provided - though refrigerator doesn't work to freeze.

  • "Just returned from a week’s stay and was very happy with the accommodation."

Nestled on a hillside, quiet and rural but strategically well placed to explore the beautiful county of Dorset. The Mouse House is compact and cosy but had everything one needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay with good WiFi.

  • "I didn’t like our dogs kept in separate porch area."

There was no nice walks near by, the main road was dangerous. The garden was private with chain across. The fridge too small and no local pub or shops. The kitchen area extremely small had to juggle things around. Wi-Fi rubbish and TV kept coming on by itself Would have been nice if owner introduced himself. However the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our time visiting places during our week.

  • "Beautiful hideaway cottage, nice furnishings, however we did not find it dog friendly, there was nowhere to walk her as all stones outside and through the long drive, turning out of the drive there were no pavements and a very busy road."

The dog was expected to stay in the outer lobby, that is not acceptable.

  • "No complaints really as we were very comfortable in the property and the location was lovely."

Just a couple of observations. The fridge (for our use) was adequate although the small freezer section seemed to be missing its door - which meant it was ineffective - and the bars in the fridge door were faulty so didn't secure items. The microwave was very loud and the noise continued for a few minutes after the timer ended. The TV would switch on at random times - fortunately not while we were asleep (although we decided to turn the power off at night just in case). The property itself was great but I wouldn't have liked to try to cook a meal given the lack of space. I would happily recommend it though as it was well placed for outings. Dorset is gorgeous!

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week break and the accommodation was very comfortable and accurately described."

Situated in a quiet location so very peaceful and came back home refreshed. Only negatives would be 1. It would be nice to have a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival to make a drink after journey to get there. 2. Fridge very small for self catering,I realise space is limited but maybe a power point added to the porch would allow for a larger fridge freezer to be fitted.3. The WiFi was poor. Besides those three things everything else was excellent.

  • "Lovely property although you need to accept that it is small."

Good facilities apart from poor WiFi. Very clean and tidy in a very quiet location. Owners were very friendly but do not bother you. Pets are welcome but dogs are expected to stay in the entrance hall. If we had taken him our pooch would not gave liked that as he is always with us. Would definitely use this property again, really enjoyed our week there.

  • "No welcome pack."

We found the accommodation to be very basic. The underfloor heating did NOT extend to the bathroom so it was COLD in there. There was no oven only a microwave. The plates were large and cumbersome and difficult to use. To this end we went home early.

  • "Very cold. Temperature settings didn't make sense."

Took 19 hours to get to the temperature required. Called the mobile numbers provided left message on one, no one got back to me. Then the temperature slowly came down. This was over Christmas eve day and Boxing day. I have written to Sykes Cottages about this and a few issues with the accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so very sorry that you were inconvenienced during your stay. We have never had issues with the heating system before, and have been told by the guests who attended following your departure that it is working. The boiler was only replaced six weeks ago, and we haven't experienced any problems since, however we will still ensure it is looked at on the next changeover to double check that everything is in order. We have been made aware of the other concerns you have highlighted to Sykes and will make it our priority that these are addressed accordingly. We are so sorry that your calls were not answered by the person we had left in charge, and have made Sykes aware of the unforeseen circumstances that caused this so that they can inform you. The last thing we would want is for any of our guests to feel uncomfortable at any time, and we are sorry that the concerns raised were detrimental to your overall experience. We really hope to be able to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The Mouse House is a tiny property just as the name suggests."

It is clean and tidy and situated in easy reach of all parts of Dorset. The cooking facilities are simple with a gas hob and microwave oven, it took us a moment to realise that the microwave has a grill and convection oven capability. Blandford Forum is 10mins away with supermarket and laundrette, the latter we needed to dry towels as we had some rainy days and the Mouse House has an airer but no drying facilities. There is only a very small patio area other than the driveway to sit outside, the garden that looks like you have use of is actually private. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily visit the Mouse House again, it is easy to relax and enjoy the peace.

  • "We had an enjoyable time and enjoyed the views and tranquility."

The mouse house has a very small kitchen area with all the basic necessities though it would have made life easier if there had been some basic everyday plates as the square ones were extremely heavy and awkward to use. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The water pump was rather noisy when using the shower, toilet etc but as long as all the taps were properly turned off gave no other problems. The room was attractive with a high ceiling and beams. There were quite a few spiders (The type with long spindly legs) when we arrived, but they gradually whittled down to just one or two as the week on. We could have done with a small cupboard in the eating area as there was nowhere to store food and so we had to pile it up on the drop leaf table. Having said that, the house is situated in a lovely relaxing area from which to explore and overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Clean an tidy etc small but with everything you need for a short stay and for us it was a very short stay as we were very disappointed that the garden was not made secure for the dog. We saw no one at all the time we were there to asked if the small garden an the lawn belongs to us as there was a chain across it Mark private but as I said before not secure and as its a farm land all around with cattle and sheep the last thing you want is for your dog to get out . To us the write up was very miss leading to being dog friendly. And we felt we could not stay for the whole week and decided to come home on the Wednesday and it was with much that we had to do that

The mouse house had all we needed for a weeks comfortable stay the views across the fields and the paddocks are a delight, For the ladies a hairdryer is provided so no need to pack your own. The owners are on hand anytime but also respect your privasy. The warm welcome they give you when you arrive to your mouse house is friendly and helpful Well appointed accomodation for the area to explore, no where is too far to travel to. Local information of leaflets and maps are very helpful for new comers to the area. Should you be bored of an evening they also provide books to read television to watch or the rolling fields outside the window to look across. We will not hesitate to go back.

It is modestly, but tastefully, furnished and provides virtually everything you could need on a daily basis. The kitchen does not have an oven but a microwave makes up for this. The Mouse House was freshly cleaned prior to our arrival and nicely presented. The owners, Paul and Sally, who live in the adjacent cottage, are friendly without being obtrusive. There is a small, private seating area to the rear of The Mouse House overlooking the garden and surrounding countryside. The location brings you within easy driving distance of the coast; allow around 20 minutes for Wareham, Swanage taking a further 20 minutes. The Tesco store in Blandford Forum (10 minutes) is easily accessed for all your food shopping and fuel. The town also has a reasonable selection of smaller shops and banks. Both Dorchester and Bridport are also well worth a visit. There are a wide choice of decent pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area for dining out but booking in advance seems essential, as we found out! The Royal Oak in nearby Milborne St. Andrew (5 minutes) provides hearty pub grub at reasonable prices. All in all, we spent a very pleasurable week in this peaceful part of Dorset.
