"A lovely, well equipped cottage that provides easy access to a beautiful part of the country."
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was easy to find and the parking arrangements were straightforward. The rooms were clean and tidy, with lovely decor. We would be happy to stay here again.
You were wonderful guests thank you Property Owner

"Thank you for a most pleasant and relaxing stay, and all your great tips, including a great walk from Finchingfield."
What a fabulous part of the world.

"Nice cottage tucked away in the countryside."
Quite a big kitchen and comfy bedrooms. There is a pub about a mile away but it’s not an easy walk due to the narrow roads, but there are some good pubs only a few miles away. Good base for visiting Colchester, Bury and other locations. The hosts are just next door and made themselves known if we needed them but otherwise they left us to ourselves. Parking is sort on on the side of the road so bear this in mind if you have a large car, but it’s a pretty quiet road anyway!
Many thanks Property Owner

"We had a fabulous week at The Gate House."
The cottage was perfectly situated for all our excursions and our hosts, Fiona and George, were absolutely fantastic.
Thanks laura for lovely review- a great pleasure to meet you and your family - do come again Property Owner

"It is in a very nice location and the owners are very nice poeple."
Whilst the bedrooms are spacious and the beds comfortable the cottage is let down by the lounge which is on the small side and the furniture which is not very comfortable. The off road parking is under a fig tree and consequently the car gets covered in poo. There is also a parking space on the road, but the road is fairly narrow so did not consider it wise to use it. The bathroom is great but there has to be a 20 min wait between showers as they are not on mains water. This was fine for the two of us but something to consider if more people are staying there. The kitchen is large and well provided but there is no storage space.

"We loved our stay at The Gate House."
The owners were incredibly kind and helpful as we had taken our 20 year old cat with us for a months’ stay. The cottage itself is a real gem, with beautiful decor by Fiona. It is well equipped, comfortable and set in a lovely part of Essex 5 minutes drive away from a small town. We happily recommend The Gate House and hope to return as soon as we have the opportunity.
Thanks for lovely review Property Owner

"The Gate House is a beautiful cottage set in very quiet surroundings."
The house is spacious and well equipped. We particularly liked the beautiful shower room. The bedrooms would benefit from a bit more clothes storage space. The roads are nice and quiet for cycling. George, the owner, was really friendly and helpful.

"Fiona and George were both charming and welcoming and very helpful."
We all enjoyed our stay in this rural cottage and the ripe figs just outside the door were an extra bonus.

"Lovely cottage, tucked away in the Essex countryside."
Only saw about 10 cars come down the lane during the whole week! Very friendly hosts, they left us alone (which is what we like), but got the feeling they would be as attentive as needed. We didn't use the lounge much, as there wasn't enough comfortable seating for all of us, and found the kitchen much more light and airy. In any case we were so tired from busy days out, that we made good use of the peace and quiet and went to bed early!

"We had a very pleasant stay in the Gate House."
It is very well decorated and full of interesting art. It is very suitable for walks in the surrounding area and excursions to Cambridge, London or the North Sea coast. Last but not least, we had very nice hosts.

"We had a very enjoyable stay in The Gate House - the soft furnishings and artwork, in particular, make it feel like a cosy home."
Fiona and George were very welcoming, and keen to assist if needed. There is no garden to the property but they have created an attractive seating area at the edge of the field just opposite. The Gate House sits on a quiet country lane with several public footpaths nearby to access the lovely countryside, whilst the village pub and shop are about 25mins walk from the house. We were pleasantly surprised at just how pretty the local area was and would definitely stay here again if we were in Essex.

"We had a lovely stay at The Gate House over Easter."
George and Fiona provided a very warm welcome and a generous package of supplies, including an Easter egg for the boys which they enjoyed. Nothing was too much trouble for George and Fiona, and the unending supply of logs for the fireplace was much appreciated, making for a warm and cozy stay. The beds were comfortable, the shower always warm and strong, and there was plenty of room for family meals in the kitchen. The location was quiet, being out in the countryside, and some nice walks directly from the house were possible. We would highly recommend a stay at The Gate House, as we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

"The cottage is situated in an attractive and peaceful location in the Essex countryside."
It has a friendly atmosphere and had all the facilities we needed. We were grateful for the generous welcome pack. The hosts were welcoming and attentive and took care to ensure that everything met our requirements and that we had a good experience. An initial problem with the dishwasher was quickly resolved. The WiFi which was particularly important to us worked very well We strongly recommend this cottage.
