  • "A very spacious , quirky accommodation."

Lovely soft white towels and comfortable beds. Unfortunately though, 5 doors were locked including the side gate leading onto the car hard-standing area. This meant that we had to walk our dog and all luggage 'further' around to enter through front door, which was close to the road. The traffic on this road was horrendous!! Fast and noisy (an accident waiting to happen). At 6am each morning we were woken but heavy duty lorries and fast cars heading through the village!! The property has underfloor heating in kitchen/dining area but we were not allowed access to this and it was cold in this area. The boiler had to be reset each time you needed it- of which meant going 'outside', to outbuilding in cold/rain to reset early each morning. The kettle cut out continually and you had to keep switch down with finger to get kettle to boil. The front windows are really dirty (probably due to the traffic, close by). Several items not clean- bins especially. We had a person in the garden at 8am one morning without any notice. She must have known the combination to the side gate (unlike us!!) . We were in our night wear and shocked to see her gardening outside the kitchen window. This was not appropriate without our permission. The garden should be attended to at the same time as the cleaners, when we had left. We feel that a lot of the above mentioned issues are due to the house being on the market for sale and therefore lack of consideration to paying holidaymakers like ourselves. This holiday home is well overpriced having taken into account the above problems......... We intend to talk to the owner & agent about this. We have photo to clarify all of the above. Dear Paul and Jane Whilst we appreciate feedback from our guests we are flummoxed by some of your comments. For example the controls for the underfloor heating are on the wall in the kitchen and the only locked areas in the cottage are for our storage needs which are not advertised as available to guests. The kettle worked fine when we checked it following your stay. You were incredibly aggressive towards our lovely female gardener and have had to inform Best of Suffolk of this incident. Long Melford is a former medieval wool town, and is known as the 'Antique Capital of Suffolk', with a wealth of antique shops, art galleries, tea rooms, restaurants and independent shops, found down the wide tree-lined main street. The village also has the National Trust property Melford Hall, which is unchanged since 1578, and a magnificent 15th Century church which sits on top of the hill at one end of the village. On the outskirts is Kentwell Hall, which has authentic re-creations of everyday life in Tudor or World War II times.
