  • "I'll address a few of the former complaints made about this holiday home as well as say broadly I would recommend this house to others, friends and family, should they want to stay in Southend."

The shower glass downstairs is difficult to move and requires maintenance. The garden is very pleasant, full of vegetables and vegetation but still able to walk around it and enjoy the outdoor space (August). Cannot comment on dishwasher or bbq as didn't try to use them. The beds were comfortable, even the low bunk. Pillows, sheets, towels, kitchen amenities were all good, pots and pans etc all fine in good order and useable. The decor is good, not too much not too little by way of furniture etc. The blinds/curtains situation could be improved: sunlight does stream through so it's worth noting for those affected by such things. Another thing to note, while watching TV at 9pm we were asked by the immediate neighbours to be quieter as the walls are thin and all noise can be heard, so it's definitely worth noting that noises won't be appreciated.

  • "It was dirty when we arrived."

We spent the first hour cleaning. The dishwasher only washed with cold water and was mouldy. Downstairs shower screen was unmovable. The cooker had dirty pan in it and didn’t work properly it took 45 minutes to grill some bacon . The garden was very overgrown and the bbq was overgrown so I couldn’t use it. Hall and landing light was constantly turning on and off day and night. House needs curtains in all the bed rooms not just the main bedroom. The house did have welcome pack of milk biscuits and croissants and fresh juice. Lots of cleaning stuff for us to clean . It was only a short walk to the front and a Lidl the other direction. We came home a day early as this was the worst sykescottage we have ever stayed in and we have been using them for nearly 10 years I will make sure I spend more time reading the reviews in future as many of my comments are old problems that other people have said.

  • "Do not book here and certainly do not use Sykes."

Property only superficially clean and safety issues identified. Could only stay for one day of a full weeks holiday due to concerns about health.

  • "The house was very well provided, very clean and on the whole very comfortable."

As we were 4 adults needing 3 bedrooms one used the bottom bunk which was not as comfortable. It was good to have a second toilet and walk in shower but it was not a wet room as on the listing. We were advised to bring tea towel, oven gloves, and laundry detergent. So we were pleasantly surprised to find these provided as well as aprons, washing up material. So many thanks but it would be good to update listings to say these are provided.

  • "The house was great, it had everything that we could need and more."

The reclining chairs were very welcome after a busy day. The double bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds. The kitchen dining room was light and so well equipped. We were thankful for the welcome pack and enjoyed picking tomatoes from the lovely garden. The location was in a quiet street and not too far from the town. We had a really good stay here.

  • "Great house and garden in good location."

Garden was lovely and we loved the fresh tomatoes! Really enjoyed our stay here, however there are a few things I feel I need to raise. 1. Drinking glasses - very limited drinking glasses in the house, could definitely do with some more tumbler style. 2. Curtains are definitely needed in back and kids bedrooms. Sun was streaming in back bedroom at sunrise. 3. Hallway light - automatically clicks on and off day and night. 4. Bedsprings are very prominent on mattress on the bottom bunk in kids room. 5. Never found the rack for the bbq 6. No Sky TV as listed. 7. There was also a query before we went whether there was a hot tub which I revived mixed advice on from Sykes when I queried it as it was still on the property description, just to confirm there is no hot tub at the property. Overall had a lovely stay. Many thanks

  • "Great location, welcome pack was a nice touch and a surprise."

The house was comfortable and spacious. Lots of family related items which were useful. The installation of properly fitted bedroom curtains would be valuable, blinds alone are not sufficient to block out light.

  • "Ninety Eight is a great place to stay - it was so nice of the host to provide 'Welcome' refreshments on our arrival."

Despite the heatwave, we had a very pleasant stay as air conditioning units were available in the bedrooms. It was lovely to enjoy the cool of the evening sitting in the beautiful garden. Everything had been thoughtfully prepared. Hope to stay at this lovely house again sometime soon. Thank you to the property owner & all involved in the upkeep of the house.
