  • "Saltwinds was ideal for our family of six adults and two children."

The kitchen was very well equipped which was really helpful. The aga was entertaining to learn to cook on! We even made cookies without scales. The living areas gave plenty of space for everyone to chill or play games and lovely views even when it was raining! We couldn’t open the patio doors when the sun did shine but that meant we didn’t let the midges in the house! Thank you for all the maps and info, they were hugely helpful. Everyone agrees that we had a fabulous holiday and really appreciated Saltwinds. Thank you very much indeed. The best holiday yet in Skye (this was our third). Helen ps thank you for the warning about potholes!

  • "Another lovely stay in Saltwinds."

Great facilities in the house (the drying room and dehumidifier are so useful), super communication with the host, and an all round great experience. Hope to return!

Clean, spacious and well maintained property. We were 2 family with 4 kids between 5 and 9 years old, and had a wonderful week staying at Saltwinds. Perfect house for kids to play and adults to relax in comfort.

Close to the bay with good walks. Having a freezer in the kitchen would be welcome. We all really enjoyed our stay and the wood burner was appreciated. We had great weather which was a plus. Watch out for the potholes!!

  • "Lovely property, superb views, well maintained."

Semi-open plan layout was great for adults. If you’ve an inquisitive toddler or dog, not so much! Equally, light carpets and furniture gave us the fear… But that’s our issues rather than the property - I’d thoroughly recommend Saltwinds. Bright rooms for sunny days, cosy nooks for cold nights.

Lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. Although a bit of a drive, the location was stunning. The kitchen could have use a few more of the basics, but otherwise a great place to stay.

We found it very spacious and comfortable and had everything you could want. There was only one small problem in that there is only one shower room which is a shame. But it did not spoil our time there and we would love to return one day.

Ideal for our extended family holiday. Only thing that would have improved it would have been more showers. We all ended up using the 1 shower.

The house is wonderfully equipped with everything needed particularly in the kitchen. The drying room was a great bonus despite the fact that overall we had very good weather( after a soggy first day!).

Saltwinds had everything we needed during our stay and it’s a great base to explore Skye, our dog Ted especially loved sleeping by the aga after long days out. We would recommend the Old Inn for eating out, if you get a chance to visit.

We have visited before and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. This time we were lucky to have 2 weeks - the first sunny and warm, the second wild, wet and windy - we enjoyed it all! Skye is a fascinating island with such amazing scenery and walking- we went up to the Old man of Storr, the Fairy Pools and evenmanaged some wild swimming!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay and found the facilities fantastic overall."

Beautiful home that’s very relaxing to be in. Stunning views, good access to the beach for the dog and nice and secluded (just the one house further along the track which is also a holiday let and we didn’t come across the people staying there the wholes week until we were actually on the mainland heading home!) The following weren’t ideal from a holiday home perspective for us personally, but understand that that’s how the property is and so not easy fixes: - Only one walk in shower and it in an en suite room. We all needed to use this shower, so there was a queue in the morning. We purposefully didn’t have any one sleeping in that bedroom to allow easy access to the shower for everyone but if there’d been more of us and someone had had to stay in that room it would’ve been an issue. - Drying room access and it housing the only freezer. Fortunately we had dry weather all week, so didn’t need to use the drying room much. It’s a great facility to have but It wasn’t ideal to have to go outside to get to freezer items from it, especially ice for drinks. - It would have been a nice extra touch for some bath product to be provided (like the soaps were) given all the baths. It’s not something you think to bring on holiday, but then when there’s baths available after long days of walking it’s a shame to not have any bath gel to use in one.

  • "The quality and location of the property is outstanding."

Magnificent views over the bay including beautiful sunsets. The property is only a short drive from Carbost. Although the location is quite remote, it doesn’t feel you are in the middle of nowhere. The spacious property comes with a large and well equiped kitchen featuring an Aga. It even has a dedicated ‘drying room’, in case you get soaked.

Only having an Aga for cooking, when misfunctioned, caused problems. The microwave combi and two electric rings were Insufficient to feed 7 adults, saying this, the owners and the local contact bent over backwards going out of their way to rectify the fault. I would have no problem recommending this property for future holidays.

We had a great week there. The AGA was especially welcome and made us feel at home. The weather was wet most of the week so the drying room was well used and much appreciated. Returning to the cosy house after a drenching walk was a pleasure. Despite the poor weather, the house always seemed light and bright and the views from the garden room and terrace were lovely. Easy access to the beach was perfect for taking the dog out and the location particularly suited the half of the group who were keen to walk the Cuillin as often as weather conditions allowed.

  • "What a fabulous house absolutely perfect for us."

Well laid out so we could be together but also have space. Fabulous view and nearby beach. Quiet, fairly secluded, beautiful surroundings - exceptional property the best we have every rented in the past few years of visiting Scotland adventures. Only things we would have liked to have been available are a staring spoon for our poached eggs ? and a sharper pair of scissors. The housekeeper Sarah was so helpful and when we had a power cut she was available to answer questions bring over extra dynamo lights and even a gas stove…luckily the power came back on. This home is the type of layout and quality we wish to find now we are downsizing. Absolutely fabulous The owner was so helpful as my mum passed mid Jan, I then got covid ! And we had to delay our 2 year wait to visit Saltwinds by another week. It was worth the wait, the 1200 mile round trip and the memory will live with us forever. Thank you

  • "A fabby holiday over the October break."

The weather wasn't great but when you come to the Misty Isle that's to be expected and in Saltwinds we didn't care. When you have such a great house with views over the bay and plenty of room for 6 of us, time in the house was time to relax and with the fire - cosy, chill out. Saying that we were out every day - the drying room was so useful. Not our first time to Skye so caught up on sites we hadn't seen and recommend visit to the Old Man of Storr. We walked a loop up to the Cullen's from Glenbrittle campsite and back via the waterfall at Eas Mor - beautiful and just the most atmospheric pictures. One evening we went to the Three Chimneys Restaurant having booked weeks in advance. Lovely. The walk over to Talisker Bay from the house was a long haul and a little underwhelming once we arrived so would advice a drive if you want to see the Bay. All in all, Skye is a wondrous place and Saltwinds just the best base to explore.

Terence. We felt privileged to stay in this house with its beautiful interior design and paintings. It was a perfect place for eight of our family to celebrate our Golden Wedding. The sitting room with log stove for cosy evenings, the garden room for other and the TV room for teenagers, gave us all freedom. I especially enjoyed cooking on an Aga again and the warm welcome it gave when we returned from outings, also, in the kitchen, using the beautiful pottery made by the owner. Our grandchildren, 19, 16, 11, their parents , grandparents and our dog all enjoyed a wonderful holiday. Valerie.
