A wonderful welcome after a long journey, lights on, heating on and everything to get started....milk, cake, bread, butter etc etc. John and Shirley are the perfect hosts. "We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Laxdale Cottage."
It was super clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We loved its location, being so close to Neptunes Staircase and watching boats and a cruisers going through the lochs. We booked the Jacobite Steam train well in advance, so we were delighted to take the journey from Fort William to Mallaig and back. Communication with John and Shirley was excellent and made our holday even more pleasurable.

Very comfortable, clean and well equipped.
Perfectly positioned close to Neptunes staircase and Caledonian canal.
Easy road access to Fort William and the Highlands. Good restaurant and cafe just two minutes walk across the canal.
Hosts very helpful and the welcome pack was much appreciated.
John and Shirley kindly posted our mobile phone which we inadvertently left in the cottage as we locked up. Oops.

Property is almost perfect, it is equipped with everything you could possibly think of and is in a perfect location along side Neptune's staircase, although the gate was jammed shut and couldn't get out I think the horrendous winds may have had something to do with that, I managed to fix it the following morning, my only gripe and this is just my personal feeling is that rather than having a TV in kitchen I would prefer one to be in bedroom, then after a hard day's hiking etc you could have an early night with the tv

"Another wonderful stay at Laxdale."
The setting is perfect with ever changing views of Ben Nevis and surrounding scenery. Walks along canal side are a great way to enjoy the Scottish air and of course the occasional rain shower.
Laxdale has everything you need and the bed was perfect.
Personal touch from owners is the icing on the cake.

what a fine cottage SO well equipped and a VERY handsome welcome pack. the beds are so comfortable and the cottage is so well situated. We enjoyed watching the boating in the canal. The weather was disappointing but Scotland in October!! However we had such a choice of DVDs certainly something for everyone, old, young and inbetween. We certainly hope to be back.

Easy to relax and feel at home and settle in. Wood burner a bonus and made for a lovely warm time spent in the living room, particularly relaxing on the recliner sofa, a real treat after a busy day sightseeing or walking. Would go back at a later date.

The cottage was spacious, comfortable beds and excellent facilities. The garden was a treat with the birds (sorry my husband used all the bird feed) and the deer family. Location was perfect, walks along the canal, access to the bus and train. We didn't want to leave.

Was better than the photos - very cosy and homely. Kitchen was very well equipped. Beds super comfy with high quality linen, soft bath sheets. Bathroom large and loads of hot water. Great location for walks and Highland Soap company is fab with lovely shop and restaurant.

"The cottage is in an ideal situation, quiet yet near main roads, food stores and Fort William."
An excellent welcome pack was left, together with logs etc. lovely cotton sheets and fluffy towels. Good for flat walks along the canal, at the bottom of the locks was the Jacobite steam train track and interesting to watch the boats go through the locks.Short 3 min walk to the Moorings hotel for a drink or meal..and there is an ice-cream shop (limited opening) 1 min walk away.Good facilities for laundry and well equipped kitchen. Would book again.

Mountains to the front, locks to the back. Locks and lochs, glens and bens! Very helpful call before we started the holiday and lovely welcome pack. We booked 2 weeks, to celebrate my husband’s birthday, which was lovely to visit places or stay in. The deer grazing in the garden was a great surprise.

Comfy beds, gorgeous bathroom (loved the underfloor heating in October) and a well-equipped kitchen. Owners could not have been lovelier when phoning with instructions. The guest book citied many repeat returns and we have to say that we would love to come back to enjoy the canal during longer day light hours.

The Cottage is ideally situated right on Neptunes Staircase which meant we could use our bikes on the Caledonian Canal without even seeing any roads. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and extremely well equipped, there was bacon, eggs,, milk, bread, butter and cake awaiting us on arrival for which we were extremely grateful. We hope to visit again in the future.

The owner's instructions/manual was extremely helpful, overall we had a wonderful holiday and a good break from both work and school.
The eggs, butter, bread, milk and cakes were a very lovely addition, that helped us to get over our 12-hour journey to Fort WIlliam and helped with our stay, which we enjoyed very much indeed.

"The house is very well located with beautiful views looking at the mountains, very nice and clean inside, John the owner is very nice he has contacted me 2 days before going to the property and let me know about the keys and how tinks work round the house, he has provided us milk eggs tomatoes coffee tea bread and wood for the Woodburn stove witch my twins absolutely love it we os fier up every night an enjoying the heat."

There were comprehensive instructions for all the appliances in the cottage and everything was in excellent condition,

I would have liked an outdoor clothesline as there would be enough room in the garden but that’s a tiny point as there is a tumble drier!

"This is the fourth time we have stayed at Laxdale and really enjoyed our holiday."
The main reason for this was the free access to the heating system and location of the cottage.
But these alone would not temp me back again.
Having read some previous customer comments , one in particular hit the mark which I agreed with. It said the cottage was well located but was now ready for some TLC.
I am sad about this but would be well prepared to pay the extra for an improved star rating on this property

"Laxdale Cottage is very welcoming and there is everything you could need or want for a snug Highland holiday."
The kitchen could not be better equipped, the lounge is a great place to chill out and the lovely big bath is luxurious! Massive, sumptuous towels were provided and I felt like I was sleeping in a cosy cloud bed. Neptune’s Staircase was literally outside the back gate but the house was still quiet and private. Banavie station was a few minutes walk along the canal and is a great place from which to explore the Highlands and Islands. Wonderful holiday had by all!

"The cottage is beside The Great Glen Way and the Neptune Locks."
You can see the boats from the garden and go out and watch them go through the locks.

"Laxdale cottage is fantastic."
Up to now the best we have stayed in. The kitchen was so well equipped it was unbelievable. Attention to detail outstanding. The owners of this cottage should be very proud of what they have created for their guests. It is a lovely homely place, where we felt very comfortable from the moment we walked in. The views from the lounge looking towards Ben Nevis were spectacular, and after dark the twinkling lights of Ford William could be seen in the distance. About a 20yd walk from the back doorway and you are beside Neptune’s Staircase Locks. All in all, a fabulous location, a perfect holiday cottage, and if you are somewhat less mobile, like myself, the walk in shower is perfect. Would definately recommend.

"The cottage is situated next to the Caledonian canal and has easy walks along the canal on the doorstep."
The cottage was very well equipped and there was bread,milk and eggs provided on our arrival.
The Moorings hotel and restaurant was just over the canal and served excellent meals but it is better to book as it is always busy on an evening. The view of Ben Nevis from the restaurant is lovely when the cloud is high.
We used the cottage to explore the area and also ride on the Jacobite railway from Fort William to Mallaig.
Beautiful scenery in all directions would definitely recommend a stay in this cottage.

"My son and I went for a New Year break at Laxdale Cottage near Fort William."
I have never dealt with self catering so wasn't sure what to expect. We were not disappointed. The cottage was warm and spotless. There was complimentary eggs, bread and milk, enough for a late supper or nice breakfast if you arrived empty handed. The shower room was amazing with under floor heating, lovely large shower and great bath. The kitchen was loaded with utensils.. Lovely sized bedrooms, and NO SOFTENER SMELLING BED LINEN, just fresh and clean. (I hate softeners with a passion). Living room was cozy, we wanted to put the log burner on but didn't really need it, even with minus degree temps at the time. Lots of information on a cork board in the kitchen with taxi numbers, where to eat etc.Only one very minor thing was the top of the drive. The loose stones were a bit of a pain when reaching the top in the car.. All in all, we would go back in an instant. Thank you x

"The bungalow itself was outstanding."
Everything we needed was there and its far more clean and modern inside than the outside would suggest. It had a nice big kitchen table for meals, a large wooden-floored hallway, cosy lounge, an adequate main bedroom, a good-sized twin-bedded room and a spacious, contemporary bathroom with walk-in shower. There is also a small utility room as you enter the back door for dirty walking boots and coats. From the lounge window Ben Nevis looks down on you. Plenty of garden front and back, although the former is quite steep. However, there is a small patio area outside the front door. We would have no hesitation in staying here again.

You may wish to journey into Glencoe to the visitors centre or tour the west coast and see the magnificent Glenfinnan monument where Bonnie Prince Charlie came ashore in 1745.

Corpach is the point where the mighty Caledonian Canal reaches the sea, home to the series of locks known as Neptune's Staircase, the longest of its type in the UK. Here also is the Snowgoose Mountain Centre where you can indulge in canoeing, kayaking, sailing and mountain walking as well as winter climbing. For a less energetic experience, visit Treasures of the Earth, Europe's finest private collection of crystals, gemstones and fossils. Nearby is the key Highland town of Fort William, a haven for shoppers, seafood enthusiasts and also the outdoor enthusiast, nestling as it does at the foot of the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Enjoy unrivalled views of Ben Nevis from its neighbouring mountain Aonach Beag, or take the mountain gondola up Aonach Mor for wonderful views and a spot of lunch. Nevis Range ski resort caters for all winter sports and also provides world class mountain biking facilities in the summer. In early May each year the famous 6 day Trials Bike event is based in Fort William. A superb base for this beautiful part of Scotland.
