"This was our third stay at Camisky Steading."
The location is wonderful and the building has great potential, however as others have said the cleanliness was poor. There were lots of cobwebs, what appeared to be mouse droppings, one of the toilets hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival and there were items of clothing that had been left by a previous resident.
As mentioned in previous reviews there also appears to be a lack of maintenance recently. The broken downstairs toilet seat and the loose bath handles have both been mentioned in previous reviews. More worrying several of the windows cannot be opened and neither could the outside door in the bathroom so in case of a fire your upstairs emergency exits are very limited.
Finally the users of the fishing office (under the apartment) were very noisy some mornings and woke me up, on one occasion before 0700hrs.
It's a real shame that this property does not seem to be receiving the investment it deserves, it could be so much more. Unfortunately we won't be returning next year and will be seeking another property in the area.

"This is a very comfortable holiday house, We found most things we needed and the setting is magnificent, with stunning views all round."
just a couple of niggles - the bathroom floor is unpleasently spongy near the shower ( we did our best not to stand on it, but its not easy) and perhaps a couple of baking sheets would be useful in the kitchen.
The owner contacted us to check how we wanted the bedrooms set up, which was appreciated.
On the whole we would certainly recommend the house

"The property was dirty with cobwebs everywhere."
Thick dust on the skirting boards and doors. Dust and fluff on the wardrobe floors. Cobwebs on the windows and ceilings. Microwave and toaster needed cleaning before able to use. Oven filthy. Cups stained and required washing before use. No cleaning materials available, had to buy them
Breadcrumbs on work surface under the toaster.
Evidence of active infestation of mice.

"The location of this property is stunning."
. In the countryside and with a view of Ben Nevis, but still on the doorstep for Fort William. Loads to do around the local area and the cottage is a welcome retreat to recharge in the evening, ready for the next day.
Beds and linens are crisp and clean, with lovely fresh towels too. The lounge is relaxing and will appointed too.
The boot room is fab... Somewhere to leave the boots and to dry out coats etc, if needed.
Overall cleanliness is perhaps not up there but not
such that it impacts the stay in any way... Personal preference perhaps.

"Perfect location for a weekend away mountain biking."
A few things that do need attention- The shower leaks, it’s not a little bit of water either. Needed a new bath mat everyday it soaks up that much water. This has been mentioned in other reviews and obviously still not been fixed, won’t be long until the bathroom floor is falling through. The toilet seat downstairs……it just needs 1 that fits the toilet!! Again this has been mentioned in other reviews. Not the cleanest place, bedside table in 1 room had other guests hairs on and very dusty.
All in all this place needs a bit of TLC.

"We had a lovely stay at Camiski."
The owner and lodge staff were very friendly. However, there are just a few points regarding things that the owner might want to consider:
Fridge is small for a big party and the door doesn't shut properly leading to ice build up.
Although it didn't detract from indoor comfort, the external maintenance could be improved (gutters very blocked for example).
A few more T towels would have been useful (we ended up buying more).
A few serving dishes is always good when doing food for six, but there were none in the kitchen. (We imporvised).
Not essential, but an outdoor shed for the steading to house bikes and bits and pieces would have bben handy and might be worth adding for future groups?

"If you love a quiet peaceful surrounded by beautiful countryside with pure clean air then Camiski Steading is the place for you."
The cottage has plenty of room for family or three couples, the bedrooms, bathrooms and lounge is all on the first floor with the large kitchen and utility/drying room downstairs. Everything you need in the kitchen with plenty of crockery and cooking utensils, outside area is plentiful with parking for cars. The cottage is approximately 5 miles from Fort William and is about a couple of miles off the main road and with the view of Ben Nevis overlooking you. Fort William has plenty to offer with supermarkets restaurants pubs and plenty of things to do without going miles.

"Camisky was more remote than expected."
There was no mention of it being 2 1/2 miles down a single track road. In extreme weather I feel this may pose a problem. The property also shared its grounds with the lodge which again wasn’t explained properly. Our dogs roamed into their areas and their children roamed into our area which meant we constantly had to watch the dogs.
The property was also shared with the fishing office meaning cars were driving through the property to get their permits. This again isn’t explained properly and meant we had to constantly watch the dogs.
Although it’s stated the property is enclosed sheep were around in the grounds.
The property itself had a nice kitchen which was quite well stocked. The lounge was lovely but the TV only working through the wifi was very slow, not a problem for us but with young children could pose a problem.
The bedrooms all had large beds but this comes as a compromise. The main bedroom with the built in wardrobes was great. The second bedroom was ok but it only had a chest of drawers so nowhere to hang up clothes. The last bedroom was smaller so my son and partner lived out of their suitcase on the floor for a week. It wasn’t very satisfactory.
My main issue was the cleanliness of the property. Whilst the surfaces are clearly washed down and bathrooms cleaned, the property itself was very dusty and needed a deep clean. There were a lot of cobwebs, the towel rails had layers of dust on them. The bedrooms and hallways had layers of dust round the edges. My son suffers from allergies and needed antihistamine tablets whilst in the house.
Although the views from the house were unenviable it’s remoteness, lack of bedroom furniture and cleanliness were a major problem for us.

A big spacious property with fantastic panoramic views from the lounge. 4G & WiFi were excellent (better than at home!) and the bed was very comfortable.
The negatives! Generally felt the property needed some redecoration both inside and out. The toilet seat in the cloakroom didn't fit, no additional outside seating on the lawned areas (picnic bench outside front door) and no welcome pack so we were unclear where we could and couldn't walk.

"Hello, before I say anymore, we will almost definitely return."
On entry everything looked ok, however after a while realised there was unwashed cutlery in the dishwasher, broken and unclean waste bin in the kitchen, broken toilet seat down stairs and a television that only seems to work on catch up. As we were cooking in the evenings, we could have done with a number of smaller pans, only two of us so small quantities. Non of these things are major but all would take so little to put right. On a positive, fantastic location, very warm once we worked out how to use the heating. As we stayed out of the fishing season and Camisky Lodge was unoccupied we had the place to ourselves, perfect ! Should you choose to stay during the fishing season and the lodge was fully occupied your stay may not be so peaceful.

"Lovely quiet spot and the property is comfortable, very clean and has everything you need with views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding farmland."
Fort William is only minutes away with Morrisons, M&S and plenty of other services. After reading the last review, I was a little apprehensive but the shower works absolutely fine now and there was no evidence of mice in the house. Everthing was immaculately clean. There are a lot of nesting birds in the roofline, a resident owl in a tree outside the living room window and given the rural location, I've no doubt there are mice around. It was lovely to see the lambs and calfs skipping around. ( hence dogs must be controlled at all times)
The property is ideal for an adult group as there are steep stairs, to the upstairs living area. The outside space is certainly not safe for children to play or loose dogs. To be fair you are warned about this in the welcome email. A fishing office shares the ground floor and I got definite vibes of resentment from some of the fisherman. Most of them seemed to drive at excessive speed over the cattle grid into the yard at the front door and one evening, while I was visiting the bins , I was almost run over. No apology- just a scowl .
Arrival instructions include parking instructions and restrictions regarding visiting the adjacent river- both so as not to inconvenience the fishermen.
The last quarter mile to the property is on a single track road with no passing places.
I would recommend the property as a base for a walking holiday but its not great if you want to spend time relaxing at your holiday home in good weather. The outdoor space is sadly not developed for the Steadings guests safe use.

"Lovely cottage renovation out of the way, exactly what we were looking for."
2 small let’s downs.
Mice. I realise it’s an old barn in the country but every single night my entire party were awoken by mice running around in the roof upstairs above the bedrooms. Every night. Also on a few occasions we came across a mouse in the kitchen but no laid traps. With these visitors in the kitchen and their droppings infront of the fridge and along the skirting that’s why my cleanliness rating isn’t higher.
Also no explanation was given why the temperature dial of the shower was stuck with a lot of tape and couldn’t be altered. This left the shower temperature at very very hot. Luckily there was a tub to use also which I opted to do rather than shower as it was literally too hot.
Other than these 2 issues. Lovely. The log fire. The sheep and highland cows outside. The river. The mountains. And all other amenities inside the steading were great.
