  • "My daughter and I, loved the property and especially the log fire."

We were out and about every day. We come to uist every 6 months to visit friends. Due to my daughter aged 34 having MND, the property will not be suitable in future re step, glass tables and glass shower cubicle. We took her hospital table over, as glass is a no no and also suitable none breakable crockery for her. Due to price re property, wold be nice to have a few treats ie, shower gel, shampoo, fire wood etc Regards Linda Gregg

  • "Great place to stay and explore the island."

Good sized property with good amenities. Secure gated garden ideal for letting the dog roam and plenty of off road parking. Excellent views of the local hillsides and moorland and only a short walk to the shore at Newton Ferry. Plenty of wildlife to see in the air, in the water and on land. Good communications with the owners, Donald & Caroline. Very quiet and peaceful, combined with a comfortable bed made for repeated great nights sleeping, essential when recovering from long walks. Kitchen was fully equipped and a good size so food prep was easy. Log burner got the lounge toasty within 20 mins or so. Washer & Drier along with washing line perfect for getting gear cleaned ready for another adventure. Shower room was good size and water pressure great for a rejuvenating freshen up. Could easily recommend and would return. Thank You.

  • "What can we say, we have just spent a fortnight in Machair Cottage and it was everything we were hoping it would be, warm, clean, comfy and in a perfect location."

It had everything we needed and to top it all the wildlife visible from the cottage was the icing on the cake, there were birds of prey, a short eared owl and my personal favourite deer in the front garden on a couple of occasions, we would recommend this cottage to anyone

  • "Machair Cottage was well located, incredibly well equipped, very comfortable, good value and spotlessly clean."

We even had a short eared owl hunting in the garden every evening! It is the perfect spot from which to explore the Outer Hebrides. The only negative thing I would say is that the photos on the website don't do it justice! It's a lovely place to stay.

The cottage is very comfortable and well stocked with lots of good cooking utensils for self catering. It also has views from which a short eared owl was seen daily which was a great pleasure. It was lovely chatting to Donald who called in to check all was well, thank you very much for a great week.

Owners in contact to check that all was fine. Nothing to take away from full praise. Only be slight suggestion: just have a card with web password, it would have helped.

Clachan Sands within walking distance and short drives to all the local picturesque beaches. The house is lovely and clean and ideal for our our Golden Labrador. The wildlife around the house is spectacular and worth taking a pair of binoculars to view. Ideal house in an ideal location. Will recommend to all our friends back on the mainland.

Well furnished. Very comfortable. Very well equipped. No little niggles. Top rate Cuckoos and Short-eared Owls. Why do you put your own rating above that of the cottage? One experience is not really enough to evaluate you.

It was secluded enough but within range of beautiful beaches, shops and restaurants and provided lots of opportunities for day trips and wee adventures. The house was spotless and had plenty space for us to lounge about in and a kitchen that was more than adequate for the nights we stayed in to cook. We were well looked after and the friendly owners even dropped of a bag of home made baking to go with the the bottle of wine they had left us in the fridge on our arrival. Lovely touch. We had a marvellous time and will definitely be back

We all loved it and Donald and Caroline were so helpful and friendly. The location looks remote but in reality it is really handy for Clachan Sands, Berneray, Lochmaddy and Sollas.
