"Our second stay at Ardroil, Uig on the Isle of Lewis, this time in the larger holiday home, 7A."
Like its smaller neighbour, the property was warm, comfortable and very well equipped and furnished - we wanted for nothing!
The location is excellent, a mere 10 minute walk to the deserted beaches, even less to the few hundred thousand acres of wild, rugged, unfrequented hill and mountain ground. Wildlife in abundance, with eagles & deer daily visitors.
The local keyholders, Anna and Kenny, were very friendly and helpful throughout.

"We have stopped here many times before, and in fact have a booking for 7A and 7B for next year."
It’s one of my favourite places. However my wife was quick to point out that it didn’t seem as clean as normal, and without question there seemed to be much less in the kitchen in the way of untensils, crockery etc.
we were also not given the correct access information. There was no key under the stone as advised but a key safe and we were not given a code!

"We had a very enjoyable week at 7A Ardroil."
Facilities were excellent and the wood burner added to our comfort, very relaxing holiday in beautiful scenery.
Would be very happy to return x

"We loved the house and have booked again to return already."
One thing we didn’t realise was that the garden is shared with 7B so we were wary of letting the dog out off lead there. There is a separate very small garden at the front though which is also enclosed so he went there more often . The housekeeper Anna was super and very responsive to queries via text as there isn’t a folder with information regarding rubbish bins , heating , TV or washing machine instructions. I did mean to leave her a tip but I forgot

"A very nice house in the most beautiful place."
It is very well appointed, warm and comfortable. Lots of local information is provided and there are dozens of beaches to visit, long walks and interesting things to see not too far away.
My only crticism would be the hardness of the matresses! Which i find hard on my back. Otherwise a great stay which we much enjoyed.

"Lovely warm, comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting, although to say it has views of the coast is stretching things a bit."
Lots of wildlife, regularly saw deer from the windows, heard cuckoo at all hours! and many other birds from the garden.
Well equipped. Great to have good drying facilities, and excellent collection of books of local interest. It isn't clear from the details unless you look very hard at the photos that there are 2 double beds (not just 2 double bedrooms as in the listing), in the end it didn't matter as our 4th person couldn't come but that needs to be clearer.
Unfortunately items in the kitchen had not been left clean by previous guests and that had not been picked up by the cleaners.
A bit of maintenance required: some lights in sitting room didn't work and back door is pretty stiff.

"7A Ardroil is a very comfortable, well equipped and homely cottage in a great location for guests to enjoy Uig and its amazing surrounds."
We enjoyed the artwork and historical exhibits and appreciated the books, games and other personal touches that gave the cottage a unique and welcoming atmosphere. We had a minor problem with some nesting starlings (which could have happened anywhere) and Anna the housekeeper was quick to respond and resolve the issue. Altogether we enjoyed a great week in a lovely place which we will remember for years to come. We have one, relatively minor, 21st century criticism which is that the WiFi coverage is almost non-existent in the bedroom furthest from the router.

"The location of this cottage is ideal."
It's a short walk to the beach, and this part of Lewis offers several very enjoyable walks (mountains, coast, ...). No need to drive very far. And the shop (<5 mins drive) is very well stocked, so self-catering works well.

"Brilliant house - with almost everything one could want."
Excellent book collection of local matters. Lovely decor, comfy beds.
A tiny detail... needs a new sharp veggie knife. It would have been nice to have a wee welcome pack (e.g. milk and bread) otherwise PERFECT!

"This was a delayed retirement adventure around the Western Isles."
7A Ardroil was at the end of the journey, and we had a wonderful time. The facilities were excellent, and we did not even have the dilemma of jigsaw completion-the Regency-style table was ideal leaving the kitchen table for meals. The library and pictures were superb. And there was a choice of Lewis chessmen with which to play. Uig beach is a stone throw away and the cliff-walking was stunning. And the weather was brilliant.

"We had a great week at the house, which was comfortable and generously equipped."
Personal items like maps, books and local guides were hugely appreciated. Anna was in contact when we needed help, and she had prepared the house beautifully. It is in a fantastic spot - the surrounding area is stunning, and it was a brilliant base from which to explore. We loved it. Thank you.

"My husband and I have just returned after the most relaxing and wonderful holiday."
This property was wonderful, comfortable with all the facilities we needed for an amazing trip. The location was great, easy to find and made for a fantastic first trip to the Isle of Lewis. We had one slight issue requiring maintenance while we were there and this was quickly arranged. The property was well-stocked with guidebooks, maps and information about the island which made for an even better experience.

"We loved the house, which was very well appointed and comfortable, with the best library of books and maps for the local area which we have ever seen in 50 years of holidaymaking!"
However, we do have a few suggestions for improvement -
1. The lighting in the lounge was very poor for reading purposes ( you can tell we love books!). Perhaps the inclusion of a specific reading lamp might be good.
2. The kitchen knives in the block are very blunt - Knife sharpener needed maybe?
3. We had some very fine weather and it would have been good to sit in the garden in a freestanding" chair at the end of the day, rather than just at the fixed bench attached to a table.
4. Our dog managed to go through the bars of the gate. ( It was ok as we were there). However, perhaps some chicken wire across the bottom two gaps on the gateway might make it more secure for dogs.
Despite the above, we still had a wonderful time, and would thoroughly reccommend!
Thankyou
Gwenda
