  • "Beautiful cottage, furnishings, high standard."

The only negative was, would not call it remote as just seconds of A road. This did not spoil our holiday at all.

  • "We had a fantastic stay."

Rowan Bank is ideal for those who want to explore the Lochs and their surroundings due to its location. We would definitely consider going back if we went to Scotland again. The only minor issue we had was the accuracy of the location on the sykes app and the w3w location are wrong. They take you further up the road. Fortunately the description of how to get there is accurate and I was able confirm location using Google Street maps. Otherwise, brilliant!

It was a fantastic comfortable cottage. Very well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The cottage was immaculately clean . A great location to use for accessing the Great Glen with easy access to the bus route between Fort William and Inverness. The owner was on hand to help with any requests such as allowing us access to the shed for our kit.

  • "We had a lovely week's stay at Rowan Bank."

Its location is absolutely perfect for visiting the surrounding locations, which are absolutely stunning. We also had the added surprise of a perfect week of dry weather, not something we expected at all! The cottage is lovely, although a bit dated which is fine, it could do with some kind of shelving/storage in the bathroom, the provided shelf is not strong enough to hold anything, other than toothpaste, so washes/soaps etc were put on the end of the bath and kept being knocked into the bath or on the floor when using the sink. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and warm and everything we needed was supplied. My only other slight disappointment was not being able to take a short walk from the property, Laggon Loch is only a short distance down the road, I headed out and used the embackment a short way, but some of the embankment can't be used so you have to use the road, which is a busy 60 limit road and was too dangerous for me to continue and I ended up turning back. I couldn't see any other way of having a stroll from the property since it was fenced by fields and woods.

Thanks Joan for the feedback, I plan to renovate the bathroom this year so aware of the limitations of current layout. Unfortunately you cannot walk from property as it is a busy road with no pavement. Laggan locks is a very short drive away where you can access the canal path for a nice stroll. Hope to see you back again, Kind regards, Eilidh Property Owner

  • "Overall we had a comfortable stay."

The start of our first week was blighted by the arrival of builders at 0800 to start work on the cabin that is being built right next to the cottage in the grounds. The same thing happened the next day, whereupon I had to ask them to stop using the nail gun. Day 3 I had to ring Sykes customer service to request building work to be stopped. Response from owner was for builders to work in the afternoons. Not acceptable! Long story short had to negotiate with the builder who was really polite and courteous, that they would work one more day and then stop. Really disappointed that no one seemed to think that this was issue and that we were even put in this position.

I am disappointed with these comments. The level of work and any intrusion was limited and certainly would not have blighted your stay. Nevertheless, we responded promptly once we were aware of your concerns. Property Owner

Limited crockery and cutlery. Owner is building a log cabin in the garden so this will be even more limited. Could not sit out due to al the work. Had to ask numerous vans to move during our stay. Not particularly peaceful anyway as near main road. This also has no pavement or verge so dangerous to walk along.

Most importantly to us very private and secluded. Sitting out at night on the bench to the side of the cottage with a Wee Dram star gazing was a joy with just the noise of the stream in the background. Very warm property, all you needed in the kitchen to cook meal’s. So much to see and do locally and some great walks. We drove through some amazing scenery (the Autumn colours are some of the best ever seen) to the Isle of Skye and Inverness with a bit of Nessey (ok it was a log in the Loch) viewing on the way.

Minus: Uncomfortable lounge suite; table chairs didn't fit the table; heaters were a nightmare - some worked, some when they wanted to (namely the lounge one); towel rail only worked when it wanted to also! Only 4 each of glasses and crockery - 2 of us ran out easily when using dishwasher; had to hunt for equipment manuals - found eventually half way through holiday in kitchen, under a lot of utensils.

  • "Rowan Bank is an absolute gem."

It's perfect location, rolling Highland backdrop, and comfy clean feel make it a very special place to stay. Rowan Bank is a wonderful base for exploring and really is a home away from home. The view from the kitchen is exceptional and looks out towards beautiful woodland, where you can watch all kinds of wildlife, and everything you can think of is provided so there's no need to panic. The bathroom is the perfect size to relax and do what you need, and has a magnificent power shower that's perfect after a long walk in the cold. The two bedrooms are a great size, the double bed is especially comfortable, plus a hairdryer is provided which was such a relief. The living room is positioned perfectly and its dual aspect looks out over continuous fields, hills and trees, which is extremely relaxing. The neighbouring sheep are a welcoming daily site too. The living room is large and has very comfortable chairs and settees, and the TV has the choice of an Amazon firestick or normal catchup and free view. Rowan Bank sits within Spean Bridge village which offers a huge amount from the doorstep, and if you want to venture further afield there are lots of things to see and do, not to mention some tasty eateries along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rowan Bank and even had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, who was such a kind and friendly man, we felt like we could have chatted to him all day. We will certainly book again and thank the owners and their family for having us. We'd thoroughly recommend Rowan Bank and everything it has to offer as its such a special place, owned by special people.

  • "Wonderful cottage!"

Fantastic view, splendidly isolated with a big garden. Cottage very well appointed with everything we needed, in immaculate condition. Owner provided welcome supply of teas, coffees, biscuits, dishwasher tablets, etc. Location superb for visiting Fort William, Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Glenfinnan Viaduct, Commando Memorial, Glencoe and more. We booked white water rafting and canyoning with Active Highs, literally 30 seconds drive from the cottage. Eagle Barge Inn also 5 minutes walk for a pint and superb food. The Caledonian Way (cycle path NCN 78) just over the main road - about 300 yards cycle on the A83 and you're there. Cottage warm and cosy. TV signal a bit patchy but who cares? you don't come on holiday to watch TV! The Wi-Fi is fast too (38mbps+). Nearest stores are the Invergarry garage (5 mins drive) and Spean Bridge (10-12 minutes). Fort Augustus c 15 minutes away too. Owner very helpful. We mislaid our key 2 days in and she was right round with the spare (thankfully found the original!). We booked late and didn't expect to find a gem like this at such short notice but we had a fantastic week and highly recommend Rowan Bank. Thanks Eilidh!
