Down House is a fabulous timber cottage sitting in the woods in Diabaig near Torridon in the northwest Highlands.

The ideal getaway for couples, Down House enjoys a simply magical setting in the heart of five acres of private woodland and the views from the outside decking through the forest to the loch and mountains beyond are truly mesmerising, whatever the weather or time of year.

On entering the cottage, the visitor is greeted by a rustic and welcoming sitting room with plenty of snug seating facing the windows and those gorgeous views with an attractive woodburning stove providing a warming centre point to the room.

As the sun sets and darkness descends in the forest, there is nowhere better to curl up with your loved one and watch the nightfall outside.

You can even throw open the French door onto the decking area which maximises the benefit of any sunshine on offer, making it the perfect place for a sundowner in the evening or a steaming cup of coffee in the morning as the sun comes up.

The rustic kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need to keep the special someone in your life well-fed during their stay and the inviting dining area occupies an idyllic spot with wonderful woodland views.

Even the bedroom has been designed with the forest setting in mind with feature windows literally opening into the trees helping to create the feeling you are in a magical treehouse.

The stunning shower room is stylish and contemporary and the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing shower in the morning before heading out for a busy day of activities.

Talking of activities, there is so much to do in the area it’s difficult to know where to begin.

Take the beautiful Highland pass at Bealach na Gaoithe which has stunning views of Ben Alligin, Liathach and Upper Loch Torridon or try some hill walking on the Torridon Mountains.

Enjoy some fantastic food within walking distance at Gillie Brighde on the shores of the picturesque Diabaig Bay.

Torridon is a short drive away and has the quaint deer museum where you can see tame deer in their natural environment.

Or if you want to venture a bit further afield then outside Torridon is the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve or why not explore the beautiful undiscovered delights of the Isle of Skye?
