  • "This is a wonderful cottage if you want to get away from it all."

It's cosy and warm and even when the weather's not great the views over the loch are stunning. The drive from Torridon is challenging the first time but once you get used to it, it's absolutely beautiful and the scenery is just spectacular. The bag of fresh coffee and lemon cake on arrival were very much appreciated. We most certainly did not want to leave and the fleeting view of a white tailed eagle from the window was an added bonus. A very memorable stay, we loved it here. The only downside if you're a light sleeper is the sound of dropping acorns or twigs onto the roof during the night when it's windy, but it was autumn after all!

We had a 2 night stay it was so quiet relaxing. Went a walk down to the village although a very steep hill there was a lovely cafe and the bay was lovely. I'm sure we heard the resident pine Martin walking on the roof making noises and getting pine nuts off the trees.

Only gripe was the internet was so slow we couldn’t plan days out because maps wouldn’t load and we couldn’t see our weather apps , or book tables at restaurants, it became quite a big thing really, and a working tv would have helped on rainy days, every else was perfect I understand that due to the remote nature of the place this may be impossible to do

If you want peace and quiet and a relaxing retreat in nature. This is the cottage and location for you. We both want to go back as soon as we can in 2025.

Outstanding cabin in the midst of the woods on the coast of Loch Diabaig quirky and modern at the same time host very thoughtful and generous, even offering a freshly baked loaf of lemon drizzle cake, found on the table on our arrival wonderful location with spectacular views from the windows towards Loch Torridon and Applecross superb modern facilities, with electric heating but also a traditional wood burner with plenty of logs left to be used, if desired the 9 mile single track road from Torridon is spectacular, with fantastic mountqineous panoramas - an exhillarating or hair raising experience, depending on your take on it highly recommended, but not for the faint hearted

  • "We were not aware of how isolated this property is."

If the weather stops you from walking then you have a long drive across difficult roads to get anywhere and we did stay at the property rather than go out one rainy day. Having said that the property was very comfortable and very well equipped. It’s just not for us.

We were lucky to see Dolphins, and not just one or two , our hosts invited us into their home for a better view .. an amazing experience. Such nice people doing an excellent job … Will we return ? .. without a doubt, it was a beautiful place to stay the scenery truly breathtaking 10/10 Oh and then there’s Mary’s lemon cake .. simply the best! An idyll away from the humdrum of daily life, amazing place with spectacular views and a "forest choir" of many birds in the wonderful Scottish Rainforest around the place. For us it was a dream holiday and being disabled didn't deter us from enjoying the place despite gradients. The owners were welcoming and helpful and our dog loved them too! The best place we have ever stayed in, in Scotland and as an introduction to Wester Ross and the Torridons, magnificent! 5 star rating from us.

From the moment you start on the twisty turny road to Daibaig you know this is something special! The house is set in the woodland overlooking the loch, the views are amazing! You can lay in bed and look at the view or sit at the table or sit on the settee, there is no tv but there really isn’t a need for one! There are bird feeders outside the window with a constant stream of birds visiting them. I did spot a pine marten and mountain goat in the garden and a mountain hare on the way back to the property one evening. This place really is magical and has everything you could ever need for an amazing holiday. The lemon drizzle cake was delicious and the coffee and tea was very welcome when we arrived. This really is how a holiday home should be, everything was first class. A real place to unwind and get away from the stresses of everyday life!

This was my second stay at Down House and I will for sure come back for a third time. The house ticks all the boxes necessary for me and offers space, tranquility and comfort to relax and unwind. Wonderful location, excellent view, good bed, very nice new shower room, cosy feeling throughout the whole cottage. Mary and Mervyn are doing a great job in this hidden gem, being very friendly, very helpful and very good in setting a very high standard. We wish all cottages in Scotland were like this one, it would make our holidays even better. This is how things should be, how a cottage should be, really impressed by everything! To quote Mr. Schwarzenegger: " we will be back" :-)

  • "We stayed at down house early May and it was absolutely stunning!"

The views are amazing, you can see through the trees to the loch and it was so relaxing to sit in bed watching the birds and admiring the view in the morning. It is beautifully furnished and the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen had all we needed for our stay, we like to cook. There is a deck with outside seating which was a lovely place to sit with coffee or wine in the evening. The location is very private and you can walk down to the little rocky beach in the village where there is a very good restaurant (check opening times). The local area is simply beautiful, lots of walks and stunning drives. The hosts were very friendly, helpful and made us feel at home, we would certainly recommend Down house and hope to return one day. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

  • "Mary & Mervyn have created Down House as the most perfect retreat to get away from it all."

Everything you could possibly need has been provided for, and of course the scenery is stunning. The changing moods of the weather gives you many different views of the loch as seen from the house, which all makes for an exciting holiday, with so much to do and see in the area.

  • "As we told our lovely hosts Mary and Mervyn, Down House in Diabaig is a piece of heaven."

The accommodation, the amenities, the hospitality and the the natural surroundings well surpassed our expectations, needs and wishes. We have fallen head over heels in love with the Scottish Highlands. And will most definitely be your returning customers in the future. Both at Down House and hopefully some of your other accommodations.

  • "This is a beautiful cabin in the woods."

The interior is lovely, the bed is comfortable (which is always a bonus in a holiday rental) and is very peaceful and quiet for that relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The only let down - in our opinion - are the amount of trees obscuring the views which would be panoramic if you could see them. As it is there are only snapshots of the loch and the Applecross Peninsular beyond. So the picture on here is obviously an older one. Having said that, I would go again as the other positives more than outweigh the tree issue.
