"Lovely character cottage, modernized and refurbished."
Peaceful, quiet country location yet close to shops and beach. Handy Welcome Pack when we arrived. We enjoyed our stay although attention to a few things would make all the difference, curtain hanging off broken hooks, a broken zip on the sofa seat cushion meant that all the stuffing comes out when you sit on it, a very uncomfortable mattress in main bedroom. The carpet although fairly new, is stained, stretched and fraying in doorways Would also benefit from a guide on how to use things. We come from a warmer climate and are unused to central heating so had 2 or 3 days in the cold waiting for owner to respond and show us what to do. I note previous reviews state no microwave - there is one as part of the double oven but perhaps this needs pointing out in a guide. No instructions about rubbish or parking. Cleaning was half done, no dusting (very thick dust upstairs) or vacuuming. This sounds like a lot of complaints but they are only minor things and other than those it was a lovely stay.

"We had a wonderful week there with our family, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay x"

"A beautiful cottage with lots of space."
We loved our time here, it’s situated at th3 end of a narrow lane with newly made parking which is ample for two cars. It would be nice if there was a washing line. Also a garden table to put drinks on. If you are taking a dog the garden is not totally secure. There is a fabulous meadow immediately behind the cottage a heavenly place for dogs. A great stay and would totally recommend

"I thought this was a lovely spacious cottage set in a nice quiet area."
It was within walking distance to the sea, local shops, pubs and an excellent coffee shop. The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived. It is very well equipped, although rather surprisingly it didn't have microwave. I really enjoyed my stay here and would love to come again.

"Beautiful cottage in fantastic location within walking distance of a lovely beach."
Quiet and private but close to amenities. Marketed as dog friendly, but garden is not secure so care needed. Cottage is well furnished with comfortable beds. However, kitchen has the basics only so if you intend to cook/entertain you may need to take a few extra items. No welcome pack with info about cottage or things to do in area provided, although the prosseco and milk was a nice touch.

"Nice cottage but definitely not dog friendly."
Our dog is part of the family and too be told after booking that your dog in only allowed in the kitchen is not good. With a few improvements it could be so much better. No mirrors in any of the bedrooms was a problem. Just a few extras like liquid soap and tea towels would have been good. Also the white bedding had quite a few stains on them.

"Although this was a roomy very clean roomy cottage but from a 300 year old property it has been renovated up to modern standards I think too much."
My husband & I booked this property for 5 days.As we are near 80 years old found the top of the range cookers microwave etc very difficult to use. Also so many steps some quite deep I fell and hit my head on a radiator which bled and left a stain on the carpet & pillow at night also a very bruised arm so left day early as it left me very nervous & shaky I was told by Sykes that the owner could charge me for the blood stain I left on the carpet .So thoughtful The description should state not suitable for fragile or very elderly .There were no mirrors in the bedrooms No wardrobes dressing tables or hairdryer.Others have left the same feedback comments but nothing has been rectified.
Hi Shelia Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear you injured yourself on your stay, I hope you have now fully recovered. There are rails to hang your clothes on, and chest of draws in every room, a hair dryer is in the top drawer of the master room and the iron is in the utility room. The property does however have photographs and a floor plan of the layout, the property is suitable for all ages it’s however a shame you had an accident whilst with us. "Excellent location, beach 5 minutes away across the meadow, clean , with comfy beds, lovely fluffy towels."
Outside was neat and tidy. A welcome pack of milk and Prosecco, much appreciated. However it’s not dog friendly, your pet is expected to stay in the ( small ) kitchen, there being cream carpets throughout. There was no iron, or hair dryer, or hangers for clothes, and no cushions for the outside furniture ( contrary to the photographs). There are no mirrors in any of the bedrooms. For the cost , you don’t expect to have to take these things with you. This could be a 5 star cottage, with a little more consideration towards home comforts.
Hi Eileen Thank you for your feedback, We really appreciate it. There is now in each individual room extra hanging space along with a hair dryer. The iron and board are in the utility and the garden furniture is kept in the garage, due to a constant change in weather conditions these have to be kept in the dry. Dogs are allowed to roam freely on the ground floor however not to be on the first floor in the bedrooms, which I do think is fair and hygienic for future guests. I have taken on board your review and have made small changes to correct this fantastic old cottage. All the best Will Property Owner

"We have been lucky enough to stay at this stunning cottage from 23-30 March."
We have never paid anything like as much as this for a holiday rental before so it was a special treat for us. However, having expended so much money (we are pensioners) we were disappointed with a large number of “issues” within the cottage and don’t feel enough thought has been given to it being rented out and IT CERTAINLY ISN’T DOG FRIENDLY, which made our lives very difficult. - The day before we arrived, we received a message that the dogs needed to be kept in the kitchen. Had we known this, we would not have booked - The latch is not complete on the kitchen door, so it’s impossible to contain the dogs in that room anyway. We ended up having to barricade the door at night to keep them in the kitchen, which was obviously not practical during the day as we needed to use the kitchen. There is also no latch on Bedroom 2 - There are two child gates but neither are complete and therefor unusable - we hoped to us them for containing the dogs - The front door sticks, the locks are insecure and the frame is loose (we didn’t use it after our entry on arrival) - There are no coasters for glasses - We couldn’t find any property information/visitors book, including when the bins are collected - The grass is extremely long - more like an overgrown field and there is no path from the parking area to the back door - The garden IS NOT secure for dogs - The garden is neglected with piles of leaves in the side pathway, borders overgrown etc - The gutters are blocked - No welcoming Prosecco/milk, as promised - No mirrors in the bedrooms - No wardrobes in the bedrooms - No bins in the bedrooms or bathroom - The bedside lights are on a main switch only which is just inside the door and therefore you have to get out of bed to switch them off which is a potential health & safety issue - There are no toilet roll holders so you have to reach around the back of you to get the paper which is very awkward - We only use a shower and not a bath. As a result, we used the downstairs cloakroom but the basin is massive and doesn’t allow any room to step out of the shower to dry yourself - it could easily have been a much smaller one which would have given more room - There is no privacy in the bathroom unless you close the blind and thus making the room very dark - There are no hooks on the back of the bathroom or shower room doors, so nowhere to put nightwear when washing - Whilst very classy, the cream carpets are totally unsuitable for a rental property and already have a number of stains on them. Likewise the sofas, which will very quickly become grubby - The main oven is dirty so we didn’t want to use it - Three Tefal saucepans are not suitable for an induction hob - The windows are filthy - There are cobwebs everywhere
Hi Roland You have been completely unfair in your response to the cottage. The property is displayed with photographs expressing the finish. The lawn and landscaping are taken care of before every booking. If the lawn was slightly longer then I apologise but this is weather depending and due to bookings it’s difficult to get someone in whilst the property is occupied. It’s not for you to say whether the furniture I have implemented are incorrect regarding your comments on the sofas, dogs shouldn’t be on sofas regardless, especially in someone else’s home. You have found a problem and then pushed to pick The Old Cottage apart. A few things have been amended but this review is completely uncalled for. Property Owner

"The cottage is fabulous and a credit to William, so well equipped throughout and comfy, with plenty of towels."
The rooms are all warm and cosy, the decor was just to our taste. Our only minor gripe, which we're sure is relatively easy to remedy, was the front wooden door, which is sticking in the frame at the bottom making it very difficult to open and close. Great walks on the cliff tops and the nearby Cliff House highly recommended for fab service and food. Overall a great experience and a welcoming stay either for a large or a smaller party. Our dog Evie settled well and there's even a park for exercise just down the path running by the end of the road which leads to the cottage.
Hi Paul Thank you so much for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. All the best Will Property Owner

"We picked the property because we have a dog but the garden wasn’t enclosed."
Very good location and overall condition but there is no mirror in the downstairs shower, no hangers and too little wardrobe space. We had to wash the cutlery/glassware, etc before using them and the oven was badly stained from previous usage. The front door was difficult to open and close- reported this to the owner. Instructions on how to use the heating, et cetera would’ve been useful and there was no details of local restaurants or attractions which would have been most helpful.

"Lovely house and very comfortable beds."

"A lovely cottage, well equipped and very comfortable."
Our only problem while staying was with the front door key. Instructions given by the owner were vague and did not contain any instructions as to the yale lock/latch which we unlocked on leaving the property on the first day with a consequence we could not get back in with the key for another lock on the door - had to call the owner who arrived an hour and a half later! We did recommend that he told future tenants of this problem and explain not to use latch lock

"Great place to stay."
House was lovely, clean and very comfortable. The beds and pillows were amazing. Complimentary Prosecco, team coffee etc. short walk to Cliff top ( lovely walk ) with a nice pub with live music.
