  • "Stayed in June for 5 days."

Difficult property to review, seems to have all you could need in the kitchen, we don’t cook in while away but seemed well stocked. The sofa and the beds were clean and comfortable. This property needs better cleaning, there is no attention to detail, especially at lower levels around the skirting and walls. The windows were unloved both the frames and glass need a proper clean and general maintenance. The patio door, the first thing you see as you walk into the lounge was both difficult to open and close with the glass desperately needing cleaning. The biggest drawback with the property is the loud and constant traffic noise, making sitting in the pleasant garden unenjoyable. The traffic noise is constant and not limited to the rush hour. This should be noted in the listing. As a base for sightseeing this property is fine, for a relaxing stay not so. There are 2 excellent pubs within easy walking distance.

Lovely modern house in a pretty location quite near to the water. Two very nice pubs a short walk away and house only 10/15 minutes from portsmouth. Clean and tidy but not spotless. Wash hand basin tap and shower a bit leaky. Sofa is leather, comfortable but slippery.

  • "This was a comfortable, well-equipped holiday home."

The warm garden had a garden chair, settee, small table and a picnic table, as well as a good choice of plants (rosemary, jasmine etc). It was close to excellent walks around the harbours, nature reserves and waterways, as well as walks around Hayling Island and the vast beach there. The house was very quiet and peaceful, with a very comfortable bed and sofa. We found the garden a bit noisy in the rush hours, but we do live in a very quiet area. Others might not find it a problem (especially in the winter!). It is very close to 2 pubs, and within walking distance to a garage/small shop across the bridge to Hayling Island. More pubs/shops/farm shop/cafes within 5/10 min drive. Just a note of caution to people who have dodgy hips/knees. The shower is over the modern bath, so the less able might find it hard to get in/out. Nice to have a choice between having a bath or a shower, though! I have recommended this house to another for next year's holiday, already.

  • "A really lovely base for our family holiday."

Fantastic location, can get to the centre of Portsmouth within 15 minutes, and only a couple minutes drive to a massive supermarket with everything you could need. The two nearby pubs are both lovely, with delicious food, and plenty of pleasant walks nearby. The house itself was perfect for us, very clean with cupboards full of essentials, a pretty extensive spice and herb collection, and a really good selection of toys and games under the TV (our two-year old fell in love with "Stripy" the puppet, and was very sad to leave her!). The beds and sofa were decently comfy, and although we didn't really use it, the garden was a good size with nice furniture. The TV is decent including some of the major streaming apps available to sign into. The water pressure in the shower was far better than we'd typically expect on holiday, and our toddler especially loved the "fancy waterfall taps". The parking was a little bit anxiety-inducing at first with a wide car, however once the neighbours saw that we were there, they were very considerate in making sure that they left us plenty of space to get in and out. Overall, we had a lovely time and would stay here again!

30mins from Winchester and Chichester for good restaurants, shopping etc. Clean and tidy house, kitchen modern and very well equipped, nice comfy beds. Could do with more comfy seating in the lounge but we were only there 3 nights so not a problem for us. Bathroom small but functional. Few areas of mold and mildew in bathroom and bedroom windows that could do with attention. No welcome pack as advised so that needs to be removed from description and pre arrival email so guests don’t rely on milk etc being there already. Very nice stay though, thank you.

We did not receive any email from the owner as promised in the infoormation we received from Sykes. We could not find instructions in the property as to how to use the various facilities - Cooker, Microwave and internet. To compound this when we phoned Sykes we only got an answerphone and although we left 5 messages nobody returned our calls. It is a shame that you spoiled an otherwise great property and unless we have an explanation, an apology and an assurance that this will be corrected for other visitors we will not use the company again and will tell our friends to avoid using you.

I can only apologise that you did not receive information on the house and that upon chasing you got no response from Sykes. This was sent on the 16th September to the email address provided by Sykes when you booked. Additionally, I was not contacted by Sykes to say you had no contact from us as owners. However, all instructions for our appliances were in the house in television cabinet. We will ensure that other customers get this information for the future. Many apologies again. • "It was very clean and clinical, would have felt more homely with a mat in the living area ."

No toilet toll holders which was awkward when using them. No towel rail in the kitchen area which would have been useful. The beds were very comfortable and the house was in a lovely area. Langston is really nice place to stay within easy reach of very good facilities.

Thank you for your feedback. We welcome feedback so we can continue to make improvements to our property and enhance the experience of our guests. We have taken your feedback into consideration and have now added a freestanding toilet roll holder in the upstairs bathroom. We have considered a towel rail in the kitchen but do not consider this essential as we use the oven door which we feel is more than adequate. We have chosen not to put a rug in the living area for cleanliness reasons in that although we would like our guests to not wear shoes inside, we know they often do. The house is extremely warm with the heating on and therefore very cosy. Property Owner

Once we settled in we found it to be fairly well equipped. I agree with previous comments regarding blinds and lack of curtains especially in the bedroom, we also felt they was a lack of storage, the small hanging rail and no drawers was inadequate for the two of us, if there was four of you, you would live out of a suitcase. Personally we found the sofa and lounge chair uncomfortable. All that said we enjoyed our time in the area and the property is well situated with some lovely walks and two handy pubs. Parking it is only an issue when the person at No1 is there, it does make it really tight to get past, the van was only there for our last day so not to inconvenient to us.

Thank you for your feedback. This is important to us so we can continue to make improvements for the benefit of our guests. We have now added curtains in the living room and we have curtains in the bedroom on order - these will be hung before the end of July. I am sorry you felt there was a lack of storage - will be looking to make improvements here when we are out of season. We are also replacing the sofa and this is on order. We have not had any other reports that the lounge chair is uncomfortable however but will be adding another one by the end of the August. Property Owner

  • "Although the property was very cool on arrival, the heating worked well and the property was very comfortably warm by the next morning."

(Mid Nov '21) There is a very well designed bathroom upstairs and a small cloakroom downstairs. Both were finished to a high standard as was the kitchen area. Well kept, clean property with some close early morning neighbours (Poultry). Parking can be difficult when the next door neighbours vans make access tight especially if you drive a larger vehicle yourself. The only improvement that I would suggest is blinds on the back doors and windows. These double doors, giving access to a very nice paved back garden and do not appear to be overlooked. This property would be very suitable for a family with up to two children or couples at any time of year.

Thank you for your feedback. We act on all feedback where we can. We have addressed the issue with vans in Mews and the difficulty in our guests parking. We have now installed curtains in the living room. I am Informed that our next door neighbours chickens are moving to the other side of their garden in the near future. Property Owner

But - no blinds or curtains in the living room so we were dazzled and scorched on the sofa on a hot, sunny day. The blinds in the bedrooms were no good at keeping the light out so, with no curtains, it was bright enough to read at 4 in the morning - which is what we ended up doing. In fact there was everything we needed, & if we’d forgotten our alarm clock there was a cockerel next door which started crowing at 4.15am every morning!!!!!!!!! to wake us up. He also crowed a lot during the day which again was very annoying, especially when we were sat outside trying to relax, read, sunbathing, trying to have a snooze, But that is our only negative comment.
