  • "Idyllic little cabin, very peaceful."

Sauna was an added bonus. Unfortunately our stay started the weekend of Storm Darragh, this resulted in a very muddy walk over the paddock, thank goodness for hiking boots.

Great location and very clean. Lovely, quiet and private lodge. The host was lovely. Lots of wildlife. We stayed a Woodmancote Lodge for our trip to The Goodwood Festival of Speed and booked for a great price, however when looking to book the lodge again for next year, the price was considerably higher and unfortunately out of our price range , which is sad because we definitely would have booked again.

So glad you enjoyed it. Sykes do all the pricing I am not involved in that side in any way. Please contact me directly and I will work something out. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately felt this property needed some TLC, looked tired and relatively uncared for."

Had to get to the property through a muddy paddock, which I know is due to the wettest February on record, but there was no decent doormat for muddy boots and no floor cleaning equipment. This was rectified when we phoned the owners, but felt this should already be in the property. Fire extinguisher expired in 2007 and beware if yore allergic to feathers as they were coming out of the sofa.

This review seems very unfair. The weather has been very rainy during February but as much as I would love to,I am NOT responsible for the weather. However we take care great care of the lodge and our guest needs. I provide an outdoor boot rack for muddy boots an oversized door mat both inside and outside. There is an external hose available and blankets for muddy dogs after walking. There is a hoover mop and floor cleaner, for guest convenience. The sofa is a high quality Multi York. To clarify there is a fire blanket and fire extinguisher and date is 2017 not 2007! I spoke with you several times during your stay and you commented how nice and cosy the lodge was, so this is a very surprising and disappointing. Property Owner

We were made to feel so welcome, and the owners were always on hand to answer questions. The lodge was beautifully maintained and decorated, and was full of nice little touches like Christmas decorations, a Christmas cake, and some chocolate. The heating had been put for us, so it was warm and cosy on arrival. The beds were both very comfortable, and we slept like logs! The kitchenette was well equipped and we had everything we needed to cook our Christmas dinner. It was great to have a sauna after walking around the beautiful countryside - there's plenty to do in the surrounding area too. In the winter you'll definitely need wellies though! It was the perfect choice for a peaceful getaway, and we'd definitely return. We brought our cats with us and even they seemed to love it. We so enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it.

  • "The accommodation was no more than a shed."

It was not cleaned adequately, dog hairs from previous dogs and the rugs were vile. To get to the property we had to walk through a muddy paddock which shouldn’t have been a problem but there was nothing to clean the floor with. The sink had a leak and was spilling water into the only cupboard where cooking utensils and cutlery was housed. All plates, cups and glasses were just left on a high shelf which I struggled to reach. We had dogs from a person tending the horses come into the “secure “area round the Lodge. problems were too many to put here. We were booked for a week but only stayed 4 nights. I wish I could put some positives on here but there really weren’t any.

We are shocked by this review which appears to not be based in any truth whatsoever. The pretty lodge was professionally cleaned just hours before your arrival and met our consistently high clean score. A plumber has looked under the sink but could find no leakage at all. The floors and rugs were been updated September 23. The only dogs in the lodges garden belonged to yourself. All our photos and reviews are a true representation of the lodge and you feedback seems very much out of kilter leaving us mystified. If you had contacted me during the stay we would have been happy to address your issues at the time instead. Property Owner

We were looking for a reasonably priced self-catering for ourselves and dog; this former swimming pool changing room with sauna fitted the bill. There were a couple of issues...the wi-fi was very average (one day I gave up on it); the bottom of shower door leaked; and although advertised as Sky TV, it is not. It runs freesat through a Sky box but, at the time of writing, it is not subscribed to Sky and no Sky channels are available only Freeview channels. Did not use the sauna but very handy space for suitcases instead. Many thanks for the cake. Weather was very good for time of year. Had a good stay overall.

About the location

LINCHMERE

Haslemere 3 miles; Arundel 15 miles; Chichester 20 miles.

Linchmere, also spelt Lynchmere, is a small rural hamlet nestled in an idyllic location within the South Downs National Park. It’s a perfect choice for long country walks, horse riding, cycling, or just chilling out during the changing seasons. Enjoy the stunning views across classic rural landscapes, encapsulated by the line “In England’s green and pleasant land” from the famous hymn Jerusalem, composed by Hugh Parry who stayed at Linchmere's Grade I listed Shulbrede Priory. There is plenty of history in the village, with the church dating back to the 12th century. Haslemere, three miles away, is a charming market town full of independent shops, cafes and tea rooms, and is also gateway to the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area has a wealth of gastro pubs serving excellent, locally sourced food and drink. The market town of Midhurst is also nearby, home to the world-famous Cowdray Polo Park and the Veuve Cliquot Cup – why not pack a picnic and watch a match? Glorious Goodwood, with its horse racing and motor racing festivals, is also only a short drive away. Take a trip along the English wine route, with opportunities for wine tasting, to arrive at Petworth, another historic town crammed with antique shops. Here you can explore the National Trust Petworth House and Park. The gardens were created by Capability Brown, and look out over a town made up of cobbled streets and wooden-fronted cottages. In keeping with the nostalgic past, Petworth also has a Cottage Museum where you can see what life was like for domestic servants around the beginning of the 1900s. With endless walks and cycling through the beautiful South Downs, London just over an hour away, and only 28 miles to West Wittering beach on the South Coast - one of the county’s top beaches - Linchmere is a perfect place to stay.
