  • "The cottage was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed."

What sets it apart though is the location in the beautiful village of Selborne - so many lovely walks from the doorstep and just a few steps away from the village pub, where we enjoyed some nice meals and local beers.

  • "A charming, beautifully decorated cottage perfect for 2 people."

Good facilities, handy off-street parking & a comfy bed. Location is close to lovely walks in woodland & countryside, with easy access to other local places of interest. Enjoyed visiting Gilbert White's house & gardens nearby, which had very informative exhibitions & a lovely cafe. Loved our stay, thank you.

  • "Lovely cottage in a pretty and very friendly village."

Cottage has everything you need and is beautifully presented, the garden is an added bonus. Gilbert White's house is well worth a visit, just across the road, and it has a very good coffee shop with delicious cakes and pastries. Central for visiting this area of Hampshire and beyond. Lots to see and do whatever the weather.

Owner goes the extra mile to provide everything needed for a comfortable stay. Even down to a jar of spare buttons and sewing kit. Amazing place.

  • "This is a delightful cottage well appointed comfortable with everything you need, a lovely courtyard garden, which is a nice suntrap."

Excellent facilities. We were surprised it didn`t have a higher occupancy as where it`s situated its not much more than a half hours drive from all the places of interest. Plus all the walks and not least Gilbert Whites house and gardens in Selborne itself This was our second visit and if all goes well another visit 2025 is on the cards. Thank you.

  • "A beautiful cottage in a scenic location."

We enjoyed a comfortable three-night stay. We soon felt at home, and particularly liked the colourful garden, where we could enjoy some early summer sun at the start and end of the day. Although the road is right outside at the front, it doesn’t get busy, and we hardly noticed any passing traffic at all. If you find parking in the garage at the back a bit tight, you can do as we did and park for free in the lower car park across the road behind the Selborne Arms. For local attractions, Gilbert White’s House and Garden are a five-minute walk away, and the walk up to Selborne Common starts directly opposite the cottage. Jayne Austen’s House, Chawton House and the town of Alton are just a short drive away, too.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location for getting to so many local attractions, plus the bonus of being able to go for some lovely walks from the cottage."

Great to be able to sit out in the garden. Beautiful kitchen/diner but for self catering the property could be improved with a few more utensils/serving dishes etc.

  • "I stayed for almost a week at Foresters Rest and loved every minute of it."

The house has a very welcoming feel to it, is beautifully decorated, ample equipment provided. The lovely garden (unfortunately the weather wouldn't allow to use it) as well as the garage adds to the house's appeal. Selborne/Foresters Rest is the perfect base for trips to the beautiful surroundings.

  • "Very nice cottage in a lovely village with super walks available from the front door."

Everything was provided except we couldn’t find a cheese grater. The only negative point was the bathroom basin tap which was very loose. We did report this to the owner.

  • "A TV in the bedroom would be a great addition."

Car parking is a bit of a phaff as garage isn't very long and up a narrow lane. The garden path is over grown with Lavender which is slippery when wet. The road outside is noisy from 6am until 7pm. Good walks from outside the door. Comfy bed and good heating.

There are many beautiful walks in Selborne and maps and leaflets in the cottage were very helpful. We enjoyed our time eating meals in the well kept garden, listening to the birds and exploring the countryside.

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay at 1 Foresters Rest."

Such a charming cottage that was well equipped for a short or long holiday. The bed was extremely comfortable and the overall cleanliness of the cottage was at a high standard. The garden was beautifully kept and we enjoyed many sunny days in it on a great set of garden furniture. Found The Selborne Arms staff not very welcoming and food/drink too expensive. Would thoroughly recommend a trip to Gilbert White’s House and Gardens.
