  • "This is beautiful accommodation, great location, superbly maintained with lots of thoughtful touches."

Everything was provided from bathroom products and helpful suggestions for local activities, to beach towels and torches for nighttime exploring. Warm, stylish and comfortable inside, perhaps a little smaller than we expected, but a secure and relaxing outdoor area. We hope to come back.

  • "The expression "stones throw from the beach" must have been written with this property in mind."

It's beachfront location is wonderful, within a couple of miles of every conceivable amenity and attraction. Quiet and underdeveloped, where the susurration of the waves and peaceful locale can restore the soul. Thoughtful design touches abound and an eclectic collection of knick knacks and wall art add to the overall beach hut theme. The photobook on arrival is a very novel and uber stylish way of communicating all the information you are likely to need - certainly streets above the usual dog eared A4 folder with a couple of local leaflets of things to do (which are legion). Not enjoyed a holiday this much in years and the weather could not spoil it. Thank you to my host for being so considerate and helpful and allowing us to stay in such a terrific property. Recommend to everyone. 6 stars.

  • "Another wonderful week at The Hideout."

As before, the accommodation was top notch, super comfy bed, lovely private garden and about 100 steps to the beach! One tiny problem with a light bulb was fixed the same day as mentioned to Carol. Weather was great, locals all very friendly and the beaches were virtually empty! I cannot recommend this delightful holiday accommodation and area so I will absolutely return again and again (until I can persuade my other half to move to Selsey Bill!!). Thank you thank you.

A beautiful Floridian beach vibe decor with the waves practically on the doorstep. The courtyard garden is secure and perfect for your fur babies and a sun trap for the adults. The green opposite makes the perfect playground, beautiful walks on the beach front, especially at low tide. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and the wine in the fridge on arrival was awesome! They also told us some local places to visit which were lovely. Thank you for making our stay a great experience.

I was in need of a recharge by the coast and found this place which looked perfect for my dog and I. To be so close to the sea was just amazing. At low tide in the morning and evening I could take just a few steps from The Hideout and be out walking my dog along a glorious sandy beach with hardly anyone but a few other locals walking their dogs in sight. I enjoyed a beautiful sunset with the beach to myself on the Saturday night. Loved listening to the waves when I relaxed in the garden to give my dog a rest from all the walking. It's a little suntrap! The accommodation has everything you could need, is really comfortable, and Carol the host was so helpful whenever I had a question. The perfect place to relax, enjoy coastal walks and with really friendly locals. Highly recommend and I will be returning!

Despite the owners being away, they messaged to see if we had everything we needed. It was my husbands 50th while we were there, and I requested a couple of balloons to be in the room when we got there. What we infact got, was balloons, a birthday cake, box of chocs and 2 bottles of wine. The owners went above and beyond. Locals are really friendly and some even stopped for a chat when I walked our dog. It really is a stunning area and 'The Hideout' is exactly that, a hideout away from everyone and everything. We will definitely be going back at some point in the future.

Beautiful decor, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The location is right next to the beach and only a 20 minute walk from the High Street with a number of bars, restaurants and shops. Complimentary milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and a bottle of wine were all much appreciated. Lots of guides and ideas for days out (and activities for days in if the weather is not so good). There's a lovely garden area which would be fantastic on a warm evening - unfortunately not warm enough for us to enjoy it! The only thing which was a little disappointing was that the shower was not very powerful, but otherwise we felt it was perfect.

I spent a magical week exploring the coastline directly outside the property and further afield - Bracklesham Bay/the Witterings are only a short drive away. I went further afield to Bognor and Worthing as well as into Chichester. It was quite heavenly being able to hear the waves crashing from inside The Hideout and I spent many hours photographing the enormous and quite magnificent skies! I met some very friendly locals who were always keen to stand and wax lyrical about living in Selsey. It was so lovely to be able to take one of the beach chairs, left for ones use by the property owners, with a blanket and a book and sit on the beach until it was too dark to see and not have to make the effort to make a long drive home just a 30 second walk back to the property! Carole was friendly and kept in touch by text as we kept missing each other in person until the last day! A lovely bottle of rosé and some milk and water was left in the fridge which was a nice touch. Top quality linens and towels with extra blankets and enormous beach towels available as well. One minor point I hadn't quite cottoned on to is that there is no oven, but good quality hob and microwave to use if you need to cook. All in all, I'd definitely go back for another week of beach heaven.

Stephen and Carol are obviously not running this little business just for money, but for some extra fulfilment in their own lives. Very well done! Steve and Linda Block

  • "We were very disappointed with the size of the overall accommodation which is indeed extremely compact for two adults and a medium sized dog, the photos taken make it look a lot bigger."

The WiFi was not brilliant which for some people may not be a problem. Overall I believe it was expensive for what was actually offered but I do realise that this is my opinion and it may be different for others.

We were very upset and sorry to hear that you were disappointed. We do state that the space is compact. We'd hoped that the photos would show the scale of the space, when seen against a standard kitchen unit or chair. Regarding your issue with the internet, I can only presume that you logged onto another network, as we have a fibre optic broadband connection with two available networks for the property. It's a shame that you didn't mention this when you were here, as we could have pointed you in the right direction. We strive to be available 24/7 to deal with anything that is needed, no matter how trivial. Again I'm sorry that you didn't experience the Hideout as we had hoped and as others have experienced. The property is exactly as shown in the photos. Very comfortable bed, beautifully presented with lovely little design touches. It's moments from the beach (gorgeous sunsets) and a green space which the dog enjoyed. The host Carol was great, checking that we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend and we hope to stay again in the future!

  • "A lovely comfortable holiday stay."

Would highly recommend. We loved our trip away. Our stay at the hideout was everything we wanted and could have asked for, even better that we could share it will our furry friend. Carol and Steve were lovely hosts and we enjoyed our bottle of wine on arrival. We appreciated that there was a little jar of dog treats for the pups! Really thoughtful. A few thing we would have liked to have when staying was a couple condiments e.g salt, pepper, oil and maybe some sauces, however we weren’t far from the shop so we managed to get it. Thank you again. We hope to be back for a longer stay xx

The owners were great to deal with and had thought of everything we needed - milk and a lovely chilled bottle of wine on arrival. Towels, sheets and extra blankets and lovely extras like thermos flasks for a coffee as you walk along the beach. We'd highly recommend a short drive to The Gribble Inn in Oving, a dog friendly pub that does the most fantastic food and its own micro-brewery. We'll definitely be back!

The Hideout was perfect for what I needed to recharge and be away from the fast lane of London. I will love to rebook again next year.

  • "Lovely stay, very peaceful."

Both Steve and Carol were very welcoming and offered to take a few things out of the accommodation so our spaniels could have more room. A lovely touch to find a pint of milk and a bottle of wine in the fridge. The accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We were pleased that we decided to bring our laptop so we could watch TV and chill out. I'm sure that we had stayed in the summer we would have made more use of the enclosed courtyards with our four legged boys. Location was brilliant, a short walk to the beach and a pleasant walk to the High Street. West Wittering beautiful sandy beach only 4 miles away.

The bed is very comfortable and the en suite has an excellent shower. The private courtyard garden is a bonus. Selsey itself is a well kept secret. There is a full range of shops and an excellent Coop. It’s a really friendly and relaxed town. Over all it is a perfect place to get away from it all. Carol and Steve were great hosts. • "Great location!"

I would say this property is ideal for couples who enjoy walking ( we do....but this time had our elderly dog with us which slowed us down this time! ) or if you are just looking for total relaxation and an evening stroll to a local pub. A really good base to explore the coastal areas around & very close to Arundel and Chichester. The Hideout is decorated beautifully and maintained very well. Highly recommended.

  • "Everything was amazing, we greatly enjoyed our stay here."

The location was perfect - literally a 10 second walk to the beach! The cabin itself was luxurious, it had everything we needed inside - every little detail was thought of. The only small downside for us was the wifi was a little unstable but we only needed that in the evenings for watching Netflix on our laptop whilst it was too windy and cold to be outside. So overall, it didn't impact the stay at all. Carol was so friendly and we felt she was there if we needed her for any questions or recommendations in the area. It was a much needed break for us and we will definitely be back :)

It was really clean which was important to us and very peaceful. I lost my partner a few weeks ago and wanted somewhere for me and my granddaughter to get away for a little bit of headspace for a few days. This was perfect, the beach is 10 seconds away as described, lovely enclosed pebble garden area which was perfect for my dog. Tea and coffee facilities were also available. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to just get away. It was also close to a lot of other amenities if you want to get out during the day. Fabulous.

About the location

SELSEY

Chichester 8 miles; Pagham 10 miles; Bognor Regis 10 miles; Goodwood 11 miles; Arundel 15 miles; Portsmouth 23 miles.

Once an island (Selsey means ‘Seal Island’), the town stands at the tip of the Manhood Peninsula and Selsey Bill, the southernmost tip of West Sussex. The beach at Selsey is one of the best in Sussex and makes for a perfect family day out. Whether sailing, swimming, beachcombing or just paddling in the sea, this lovely coastline can be enjoyed all year round. Perhaps fishing for the famous Selsey crabs takes your fancy, or there are plenty of restaurants serving this local delicacy in the town. Selsey has a full and varied past, once a haven for smugglers and vagabonds, this part of the coast is now a quaint town with plenty of fisherman's cottages, cafes and sandy beaches. Another reason for holidaying in Selsey is the dark sky; as most of the street lights are turned off at midnight, you will see the sky light up with millions of stars, which is why the famous astrologer Patrick Moore made his home in Selsey. Only a short drive from Selsey and you can be walking the lanes of historic Chichester with its harbour, where you can browse around local shops, or enjoy afternoon tea after a trip to the cathedral, before an evening at the theatre. If racing is more your style then make for Goodwood, with three big events each year, and dozens in between. Also within reach are Fishbourne Palace and Pagham harbour, and scuba diving and horse riding can be enjoyed in the area. Whether you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break or a holiday full of adventure, Selsey is an excellent destination.
