  • "We arrived for the 1500hr check-in to find the patio doors open and the owner still busy inside."

The dishwasher and washing machine were partway through their cycle and the owner departed to purchase mould remover for the bathroom. He returned with wine, chocs and strawberries which was very kind of him. However, he left with the washing machine and dishwasher still going. We then noticed that the lounge and both bedroom doors had been damaged in what appeared to be a fight, with one bedroom door sealed shut. The lounge carpets were dirty with crumbs and hairs and all surfaces were very dusty. The kitchen floor and table were also dirty with dust, hairs and crumbs with greasy surfaces. There was a lack of cutlery, crockery and drinking vessels and the sink and taps were loose and unclean, with plates etc still on the drainage tray. It was so awful that I vacuumed the entire place myself and attempted to remove the grime from bedside tables and worktops. Despite this, our friends who arrived later noticed immediately how grubby the whole place was - very embarrassing for myself as I organised this break for everyone. The bedrooms and bathrooms were also filthy and strongly reeked of cigarette smoke, with aged pillows and mismatched bed linen in one of the rooms and a blocked toilet in the other. The smell when in bed was so bad that we left the next day. The 'double' beds were also 2 single mattresses held together by a double fitted sheet which came partially off in the night and the mattresses separated to leave an annoying gap. One of the beds had spiders in it which appeared when the duvet was turned back. I spent most of the night on the settee in the lounge. This 3 day stay cost us £939 and it was terrible - I don't know how it has a 3 star rating. The owner needs to get the entire place professionally deep-cleaned and dispose of all the pillows and probably mattresses, which we didn't dare look at. And properly stock the kitchen and clean and tidy all the drawers and cupboards. And sort the doors and fix the toilet. There was also a lack of smoke alarms.

This property was recently deep cleaned by professionals but the previous guest leaving the morning of this guests arrival, left the lodge in an unclean condition. We were left with a lot to do in a short period of time. This unkind guest arrived at 2.40pm, 20 minutes before 3.00pm with a somewhat aggressive manner right from the start. We were obviously hurrying to clean the home but were interrupted so could not hoover and give all surfaces a good wipe down. We were not aware that the toilet was blocked and left the shower in a pristine condition. We made the guest aware that we lived next door and were available to deal with any issues. The toilet was unblocked after their departure in ten minutes and air freshener cleared the odour. Our bedroom furniture offers guests the choice of twins or doubles in all rooms and none of the previous 50 guests had any complaints about the bedding. The property was fitted with a dual purpose smoke alarm. We have no idea what happened to it. • "The host had very kindly left us a welcome pack of treats which was a lovely surprise."

The lodge was roomy enough for the four of us and our two large dogs and while it is getting ready for a little TLC, it was comfortable and had everything we needed for the week, although a couple more mugs would be a good idea so we didn't need to wash up every time we had a cuppa :). It's easy to get to many places of interest in the surrounding areas and we had a fabulous meal at the The Walnut Tree pub nearby .

  • "To many faults to list all ,damp overpowing smells maybe from mouldy bedroom wall shower tray and walls."

The whole place needs refurbishment ,we have video and pic .Disappointed in Sykes as 12 months previously guest review nothing has been done . Even though they think refunding us for nights not stayed resolves this it can not alter our bad experience.what ever clever answer owners and Sykes come back with they know the truth. If you are going to Goodwood book with Park holidays the site is 4 star and staff 5 star they tried to help .Pauline Heath

We apologise to this guest. All of the previous bad reviews were attended to but we made a big mistake when failing to finish the clean before her arrival. The property has now been completely deep cleaned inside and out by professionals recommended by Sykes and we will be employing these cleaners on a regular basis going forward to ensure it stays that way Property Owner

  • "The Goodwood Annex is set on a beautiful site however when we arrived, there was a dirty smell and stained sofa."

Windows were dirty and one window the blind was broke. The shower head in one of the bathrooms was dripping non stop and in the other bathroom the shower curtain has mould. We were there for Christmas and I planned to cook the traditional dinner there. The oven was greasy and smelt. We had to clean everything before we moved in for our stay. The owners were next door so I probably wouldnt have booked if I had known.

It is a constant source of frustration to us and other owners we spoke to at the Silverstone meet that in the main it is only the supercritic that leaves an online review. The property had been vacant for over two months so a smell in the kitchen is highly unlikely. The partner of the reviewer spoke very highly of the comfortable beds and offered sincere thanks for the xmas tree and festive gifts we offered as a welcome. None of this featured in the review. The shower head does drip which is why we leave it on the floor of the shower to avoid the noise being a nuisance. A previous guest managed to break the blind but the curtain was more than adequate. The same guest also smashed the back screen on the television. Why we as owners being next door is a deterent is beyond me. A supercritic will search for the slightest of blemishes and exaggerate them all into a miserable report completely ignoring the good aspects of the property. LORD KNOWS WHY ? Most of our guests are very complimentary in conversation, but they choose not to comment on line. Property Owner

  • "The property is in need of a refurbishment,(especially what they are charging for it) it is very dated and there is a lingering stale smell."

It looked nothing like it did in the photos on your website! Despite this the general cleanliness and maintenance was very poor. The sofa bed was stained and extremely uncomfortable to sit/sleep on. There is carpet throught including the bathrooms which is not hygenic. There was black mold on the shower curtain which is unacceptable and a potential health issue for guests. The sink in the bathroom had a plug with a bit of wire attached to it? The second bathroom has a broken/dripping shower head. The bedding was old and didn't look as if it had been cleaned and the beds weren't made properly. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. There was an old pub style bench on the decking so nowhere to sit and relax. Although the park itself was lovely this was just not acceptable accommodation for us to holiday in so we left after one night.

We can’t recommend this place highly enough.

  • "Not Clean. When taking advantage of very high peak Festival of Speed pricing, it’s reasonable to expect it to be reasonably clean."

The owner tries to do it himself but it needs a professional clean inside and out, then regular proper cleaning. The carpets are probably unsavable due to the accumulation of pet hair and smoke smell. A strangely generous welcome pack (a bottle of port!) is not compensation!

The city of Chichester dates back to before Roman times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book as having 300 dwellings. The Market Cross, given to the city in 1501 to provide shelter to those selling produce, is said to be the finest in Britain. Take a walk along the Chichester Canal to Chichester Yacht Basin and Marina and enjoy the spectacular of the yachts and boats. Add to this a bit of kayaking, golf and fishing, and there’s plenty to keep the whole family occupied all year round, all of which are made better thanks to Chichester’s ‘micro-climate’. Goodwood is home to several events each year, starting with its Festival of Speed, then into Glorious Goodwood and finally Goodwood Revival bringing visitors from home and abroad to watch, listen and cheer as horses or cars race or parade in front of thousands of spectators.
