  • "One of the loveliest holiday cottages I've ever stayed in."

If you want peace and seclusion and beautiful scenery then this is the cottage for you. The gardens are beautiful and you are surrounded by rolling hills with the sound of buzzards by day and owls at night. Amanda is very generous in sharing the garden produce with guests and we had barletta beans and fresh potatoes on the menu. A wonderful stay in a truly lovely cottage.

Thank you Helen for your super review of the cottage! I'm thrilled you harvested some of the produce to cook while you were there and enjoyed your stay. It was lovely to have you all to stay and hope to see you again! Property Owner

  • "Spent a wonderful 4 nights at Lower Woodend Cottage, on arrival we were greeted by a fabulous gift hamper containing local produce along with fresh eggs, milk, butter and juice."

The cottage was spotlessly clean and contained everything you’re likely to need during your stay. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated/furnishes and all were extremely comfortable. Beautifully maintained gardens to enjoy and you’re able to help yourself to the produce that’s grown. Would highly recommend a stay in the beautiful home. Amanda the owner is very attentive and provided excellent directions to the cottage and was only at the end of the phone if needed.

Dear Sara Thank you so much for taking the time to write your kind and comprehensive review, I am so glad you all had a comfortable stay and enjoyed everything! You and your family were lovely guests, it almost looked like you hadn't been here it was left so clean and tidy! Thank you again Sara! Property Owner

  • "Lower Woodend Cottage is a perfectly situated property with fabulous views from its own beautiful garden."

It is reached down a remote track and is so peaceful you truly feel away from the world when youre there. It is ideally placed to reach many interesting places,we visited Ludlow Castle, its church and many markets.Stokesay Castle was amazing, and we also visited Wroxeter Roman city,Bennigton Hall and Croft Castle close by. The owner Amanda gave us proper directions to ensure we found the property. We didnt meet her but felt that she really cared that we enjoyed our stay. There was a lovely welcome hamper on arrival, and the house itself was well stocked with eveything you might need.So thank you Amanda for all the extra touches made in preparing your property for guests it was much appreciated.

Thank you Richard for taking the time to write your review. You have highlighted the cottage but also some of the many things to see and do close by. Thank you again, you were super guests and left everything so clean and tidy. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you here again! Property Owner

As a Belgian couple, staying at Lower Woodend Cottage was a unique experience. The location is perfect for those who want to enjoy the view of an entire valley in peace and quiet. There is only one neighbour. In May/June, the large and particularly well-tended garden is in full bloom: a feast for the eyes. There are seating provisions in four places so you can enjoy every moment of the day. You do have to drive 1.5 km along a narrow road that is not paved along its entire length, but there is hardly any oncoming traffic. The house is a combination of an older part and an extension. Charm and comfort combined! Inside, the house is spacious, bright, well-heated, extremely clean and equipped with everything you need. We were two, for four it is smooth living, seating for 6 requires some adjustments. The bedrooms are comfortable and have plenty of storage space. The downstairs bathroom is small but efficient. Communication with Amanda was very friendly. She responds to your requests and also provides a particularly extensive welcome pack with goodies and useful items. If you enjoy a holiday in a walking paradise, the Herefordshire/Shropshire border is the right place. There are plenty of small towns and villages to alternate activity.

Dear Maria Thank you for taking the time to give your kind and considered feedback and for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy when you left after your stay. You were kind with your gift of Belgian chocolate, thank you so much! Best wishes to you. Property Owner

  • "The location on the Common is wonderful and the garden is a delight."

That said, there was a lot not to like about the cottage. There are 3 double beds and it is billed as sleeping 5. We were a party of 4 and there is nowhere for 4 people to sit comfortably in the evening. Two small reception rooms have a single sofa in each and the kitchen/diner has a sofa and an armchair. There are wooden chairs around the kitchen table, but we expect to sit on a sofa/easy chair in the evenings. The heating was a major problem. The central heating was turned off, although it was a cold week. The storage heating pumped out heat and we could not turn it down. There was a lot of wasted energy being used. The door to the shower/toilet did not shut, let alone lock, and the lock on the upstiars bathroom was inadequate. The large towels were thin and unabsorbent.

Thank you for your honest feedback. I'm sorry you found things not to your liking at my cottage but so glad you gave it 100% for cleanliness and loved the location and garden. I think Sykes have done a super job with the internal photos of the layout of the rooms, seating and bedrooms and represent it very well. The bedrooms have sleeping for 6, but we recommend 5 or less to stay due to the layout of the cottage. We have tried to create a balance. It is an ancient building with rooms commensurate with its age. I have had families and parties of 4 and five that have used the seating in the three different reception rooms to their advantage in colder months. It all depends on each individual situation. There is extensive dining seating outside for summer. The heating is background heating via storage heaters which are very efficient and can be regulated. I love them, but they're not to everyone's liking. The shower room is self contained at the end of a corridor and has never been an issue before, but I'll certainly look at making it more secure. The bathroom door is 200 years old with a latch closure, and the lock does work well. The towels are new waffle and towelling, and I'll give them more washes to improve absorbency. I use these towels myself as they dry out well between uses so you never have a damp towel. But towels are a very subjective thing! Thank you again for you feedback. Property Owner

  • "Lower Woodend Cottage is the most beautiful, cleanest, well equipped property we have ever stayed in!"

It truly feels like a home from home and the views from every window are breathtaking. Amanda and her son were there, at the other end of the phone, if we needed them and it was incredible to experience what was once there family home. We were there to celebrate our 60th birthdays and Amanda had even left us a birthday message and bunting decoration which made it so special. Although we had a lot of rain we were still able to experience the amazing scenic walks and then return to our wonderful cottage. There were folders with leaflets about the local area, DVDs, games, books, Amanda had thought of everything to make our holiday perfect!! Thank you so much, Julianne, David and Suzie

  • "This is a true jewel in the crown."

The cottage was beautiful, ideally situated for short walks to the local pubs and "halfway between Ludlow and Leominster, with a garden and views that are absolutely superb. It was so peaceful and watching all the different varieties of birds and a stoat run around most mornings playing was all the entertainment we needed. The cottage had everything we wanted and more, we will definitely be returning. Amanda was very helpful, from very explicit directions to the cottage to an excellent information folder. Thank you so much.

There was an extensive welcome pack of goodies and the invitation to pick any fruit , vegetables or herbs in season. The cottage itself was very comfortable and well equipped. We were able to walk directly onto Bircher Common which is National trust managed. The views from footpaths on that were of distant hills. Short drives led to National trust properties, Ludlow, Tenbury and Leominster. All combined to provide a very enjoyable holiday.
