  • "Stunning large cottage with so much space."

Very clean and tidy with beautiful fixtures and fittings and tastefully decorated. Outdoor sauna and hot tub within its own building was excellent . We were met by the host on arrival with a very well stocked welcome pack which we were very grateful of. My only recommendation would be a washing machine ( we were aware it wasn’t listed ) but would make the accommodation even more luxurious, especially for stays of a week or more .

  • "Just gotta gush about the amazing week I spent at Andrea's cozy cottage with my best friend."

Seriously, it was beyond expectations. Andrea's place is a total vibe – so much charm and comfort. The decor is on point, and every nook tells a story that makes you feel right at home. Nestled right in nature, the location is a dreamy escape from the daily grind. We felt like we were in our own little haven. It was the perfect spot for a chill week away for us to do some work and much needed rest. The sauna, the hot tub, the gardens. We never had a reason to leave; easily used an online shopping service and cooked with ease in the kitchen. Andrea, the owner, is a rockstar host. She made sure we had everything we needed and then some. From lush amenities to awesome local tips, she really made the trip special. This wasn't just a place to crash; it became part of our best memories. Highly recommend Andrea's Welsh cottage if you're up for a laid-back, picturesque getaway. Thanks, Andrea, for sharing your awesome spot with us – already daydreaming about round two! 5 stars all round

  • "Had a lovely week’s stay last week."

The facilities were just what we needed. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was broken so before we arrived the owner arranged to hire one which was perfect and MUCH appreciated - so I could continue with hydro therapy whilst away from home. We were also greeted with a generous starter snack/drink selection and lovely flowers which was also very much appreciated. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed in the kitchen (except perhaps a pair of scissors which would be a nice extra - due to my mobility issues). Ample ample firewood was available which kept my husband happy with the fire pit. Would happily stay again and hope to do so.

  • "Very comfortable and spacious property."

The small fridge mentioned in reviews appears to have been updated. The fridge we found was more than adequate. (Not fridge shown on the pictures on the website. Owners left a very generous welcome pack and left hot tub ready for use, the log burner on. They were very generous with electricity considering current costs. Beds were beautifully comfortable. Some updated tourist information/leaflets were available but we felt could be added to... Overall we would definitely recommend this property and it's lovely private garden.

  • "We arrived to rolling hills, spring lambs and sunshine."

Carriage House is beautifully light and spacious, with the most idyllic garden, set in the most peaceful surroundings. The interiors are styled to inspire and yet well-equipped and comfortable. The huge, deep bath with garden view is blissful. The bed and linen choices are heavenly. The garden hideaway hot tub and sauna facilities are a real luxury. We were warmly greeted by fresh flowers, a large pre lit woodburner and a delicious, high quality food/drink selection… all thanks to host Andrea, who was very welcoming, helpful and contactable by phone, yet left us to relax with privacy for the week. The house’s tranquil setting is only a short distance from well-connected roads. We explored hills, valleys, forests, coastline, castles & dams by foot and car, far and wide. We had an absolutely wonderful week of adventure and relaxation. We wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend to others. Thank you.

  • "Carriage house is in an idyllic quiet location to enjoy special family time."

Andrea made us extremely welcome on arrival, nice big cosy burner lit and a very yummy welcome pack which was enjoyed by us all. It is a very old cottage where things can go wrong and there was a bit of a ceiling problem. Andrea did her best, cleaned up and made it safe for us to stay. This did impact a bit on our holiday but we except that some things are just out of our control. We would definitely still return and enjoyed our holiday.

  • "This was our second stay at Carriage House, and again we had a superb time."

Andrea left lots of logs for us and had the place warm and cosy when we arrived late in the evening. We love how peaceful it is here, and there is plenty to do with small children nearby: there is a playground in Presteigne very close by, as well as soft play in Ludlow. There is also a fantastic miniature breeds farm in Kington (kids can enter pens and feed some of the animals) and an airfield for plane enthusiasts with a great cafe in Shobdon. The kids love exploring all the castles in the area, and there are lots of rivers for picnics and paddling (Pembridge is especially good). I bring my family here every time I need to unwind from city life, and it does us the power of good. Andrea is a fantastic host, and has lots of useful info about good places to eat and visit. This place is a hidden gem.

  • "The carriage house is a lovely place to stay."

Beds extremely comfortable and feather pillows which we prefer. The hottub and sauna were a fantastic bonus. The location was great to explore mid Wales, Wye valley and forest of Dean. Andrea our host was very helpful and kind even providing pain relief for my son for a dental issue and helping find a local dentist and gave help with booking an emergency appointment. I would highly recommend the carriage house. Only slight drawback is only one toilet (which was a bit tricky with 5 of us), but wouldn't put me off staying again.

Andrea, our host was so kind and helpful and left a beautiful welcome hamper and fresh flowers for us, so thoughtful! The hot tub and sauna were thoroughly enjoyed by some members of our party. The property is situated near some wonderful restaurants and some of the prettiest villages. We can't wait to visit again! Keith & Debbie

. The hot tub was amazing. Our host contacted me to make sure we were ok a few times and with information she was lovely. We only found a few issues with the property. 1 The fridge was to small for 2 people, so more would definitely struggle. 2 The table and chairs outside were not very comfortable.

During a damp week in October we enjoyed long walks in the surrounding area, visits to lovely towns, and returning to the Carriage House for evenings in with the fire lit - very welcome! We also made use of the spa/hot tub, sauna, and the fire pit for roasting marshmallows, which we all enjoyed very much! The owners provided a very generous ‘welcome pack’ with delicious, locally sourced products, and they were very helpful and friendly when we needed their assistance during the week. It all made for a very relaxing stay - hopefully we’ll get the chance to come back soon!

Unfortunately the weather was not great so we didn't get to explore the local area or make the most of the fire pit! The host went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay, helping with directions, leaving a welcome gift and lovely flowers which opened up lovely during our stay. I wouldn't think twice about booking a stay here again! Only downside for 6 adults staying a week the fridge is quite small and no freezer other than an ice box. Although would not be a problem if you are planning to eat out a lot during your break!

Cottage is well-equipped and very comfortable.Hot tub and sauna are lovely and well maintained. We loved the log wood burner and beautifully maintained garden and made full use of these. Radnorshire Arms in Presteigne serves a very good Sunday roast lunch and the Judges Lodgings Museum makes for a good activity for the whole family on a rainy afternoon. There is no washing machine! This meant we had to visit launderette in Kington and spend a whole morning of our holiday doing washing. We were not aware of this when we booked the holiday.

We were able to do so much with them, visiting the west midlands safari, the farm, owl enclosure, garden centres and ofcourse being able to eat the local berries and honey pots. Andrea was a lovely host and was very welcoming and hospitable. Upon arrival we had a lovely welcome package. We had everything we needed and it was easy to make ourselves feel at home. One of the best features of the cottage house was the jacuzzi and sauna. A great way to relax at the end of the day! We had the stone pizza ovens both indoor and outdoor which were so lovely to have. We enjoyed our stay so much and we cannot wait to come back again very soon.

The property

Embracing the Wales-England border on the fringes of Presteigne, the Carriage House is a beautifully renovated old coach house in a wonderful position for the annual Hay Festival, in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons National Park), and is perfect to go walking in the rolling hills and visiting nearby castles.

With crooked floors and period features in keeping with the era of the cottage, you can enjoy a well-deserved holiday with your family or friends.

Stroll through an old wooden door into a private, walled garden, where you will see an external building housing the hot tub and sauna, ideal for an indulgent soak on return from one of your adventures.

Step inside and find the well-appointed kitchen, hosting a preparation island, dining area and integrated appliances assisting you with the home-cooking.

Move through to the large lounge and unwind in front of the woodburning stove on a cold winter's night, with a good film on TV.

Climb the staircase from here to a large corridor on the first floor, which offers a lovely space to sit and read a book on the sofa, away from the bustling sociable areas downstairs.

Choose from three bedrooms to catch your rest, each wonderfully presented in keeping with the theme, and served by the large family bathroom, where you can enjoy long hot soaks in the bath tub or refresh under the shower every morning before exploring the local area.

Head out to the peaceful, enclosed garden and relax on the patio with a drink on a balmy afternoon, listening to the sounds of birdsong and taking in your pleasant surroundings. The kids can run around on the lawn and play games as you light a fire to take the chill off a cool summer's evening, once the sun has set for the day.

The ancient town of Presteigne, in which the Carriage House is situated, is very pretty, with black and white buildings, cobbled streets and plenty of places to grab a drink or a bite to eat.

During your visit, make sure you visit The Judge's Lodging Museum, formerly the county court, taking you back in time through the life of Victorian Judges, their servants and felonious guests.

There are abundant walking routes in the area, including the long-distance Mortimer Trail taking you through Shropshire and Herefordshire, the Offa's Dyke Path National Trail enjoying ever-changing landscapes and the leisurely amble to Wigmore Castle.

Venture further afield with a day out to the attractive towns of Leominster, Ludlow or Shrewsbury, each with plenty of things to see and do, not forgetting the city of Hereford and the small market town of Hay-on-Wye, often described as the 'town of books'.
