Everything you could want or need in the kitchen was at the house... superbly fitted out. The house itself was really comfortable and the supply of firewood allowed us to fill the lounge with a warm glow as we settled back with a glass of wine after a day of walking in the hills.

The owner Marion could not have been more friendly and happy to help make our stay perfect. When we arrived the wood burner was lit as were candles making it feel like home from home. The beds and linens were of great quality. There were generous add ons, such as bubble bath, tea coffee pods, ice and cakes. This is a perfect location too, 8 mins from Abergavenny and short drive from Skirrid and Sugar Loaf. Great pub also 5 mins away. Would suggest this is a place for people steady on their feet as there are some tricky stairs to the bedrooms but apart from that this is five stars all round.

The cottage is beautiful and the beds are really comfortable. Access to the property along the lane was easy after our initial journey up the smaller lane that we were sent along from the sat nav. The cottage is finished to a high standard with lots of little touches like (decent toilet paper) and nice soap. We came from the south west and access to the property along all the major roads made it a very nice and easy journey. Would highly recommend and no doubt we will be back at some stage in the future.

Thanks Amy and Charlie. You walked more this week than I do in a few months and the rain certainly didn’t put you off. We loved it so much that we have recently returned from our second visit, this time for two weeks. The Barn is very homely with every creature comfort, spotlessly clean and just gorgeous. It is surrounded by views that will take your breath away. The property is located in an ideal spot for visiting local areas including Raglan Castle, the Brecon Beacons and the Forest of Dean. Abergavenny is a short drive away full of lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. Marion, our host, was delightful and so thoughtful, she takes care of everything, and we were treated to fresh eggs from the chickens that roam free, a bottle of bubbly and cake. Thank you Marion, you are the best, we loved our chats and walks in the fields, playing ball with 'the four legged boys'. Special memories of an idyllic place, highly recommend a stay here, you won't regret it. Marion, we will be back to stay with you again, lots of love Lorna and David

  • "My sister and I have just had a magnificent week at Pentre Barn, for girly time."

It is a lovely, very comfortable property - regardless of weather. We were there at Storm Agnes time and really appreciated the warmth with the log burner keeping us cosy. The situation is perfect, walking from the door or car trips to Abergavenny, Crickhowell and many more areas of the Brecon Beacons. It is a beautiful part of the country and one to be visited whenever a ‘quiet time’ is required - very restorative, especially as everyone we encountered during the week chatted like a good friend! Our host, Marion, was wonderful. Helpful if anything was needed and good fun. Her two Springer Spaniels of course are also great (as others have commented) really easy dogs to fall in love with! For a quiet and very restful holiday this can’t be beaten. Open space and the ability to listen to owls at night when in bed, but before dropping off to sleep is fantastically therapeutic. No more needs to be said.

It was a pleasure to have you both stay at the barn. You made the most of your stay and visited many of the attractions in the area. The rural setting suited you both and the dogs couldn’t wait to see you every day for play time. Thank you for your comments and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Keep well. Marion. • "Marian was a wonderful host."

She warned us building noise but we heard little. We were welcomed with a much appreciated bottle of fizz, delicious cake and eggs from the chickens that are free range and lots of delicious herbal teas as well as fresh ground coffee and tea. Some milk would have been nice to make some tea after the journey but nitpicking really. We had a couple of gas BBQs that were fantastic too. The chickens roam free and are a delight to watch. The property dogs are brilliant, they know they are not allowed in your property and so they throw toys or a ball into your front door for you to play with them. Brilliant. If you ignore them they go away. But they were good fun. The accomodation was enjoyable and a great place for walking and visiting local places. We enjoyed Raglan Castle and lovely lunch at Beaufort hotel (think it's called that?) The views from front and back of the property are wonderful and encourage you to walk to the top...so we did and you should too. Abergavenny was the nearest town. Good selection of supermarkets and local stores. Lovely bakery in town for sour dough as well as cakes. There is brilliant cheese shop, have lunch and share a platter. It's just a delight. As you can tell 5 stars. That reminds me, the stars at night from the main bedroom balcony are simply amazing. Promise you will never have seen so many. Absolutely stunning.

Thank you so much for your feedback Margaret. Your family were a delight and hope you enjoyed a fabulous anniversary with your family. I know it meant a lot to be together. We would be delighted to have you stay again. Hope you had a wonderful rest xxxx Kind regards Marion W Property Owner

  • "This property was amazing."

Fantastic views and lovely inside with everything you need. Kitchen well equipped. Lovely hosts, so helpful. Just be aware the heating is controlled by owners attached to you. Only came on around 4 in day, not in morning. It did have some underfloor heating in bathroom, but in -3 degrees and snow when we stayed in December, it was quite cold for us coming downstairs and in bedrooms. The owner said to light the woodburner as wood free but we wanted to come down to an already warm area to have breakfast before having to ligh a fire. The owner did eventually change the heating timings to include a few hours in the mornings. The owners are also attached through a sort of wall screen. It was soundproof but we could see the shadows and tv lighting. It was perfectly private and you could not see right through but just something that should be mentioned in description. We had an amazing week.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. I’m puzzled about the heating feedback though. Yes the heating is controlled from the main part of the house. It’s always been this way, but it comes on and off morning and evening much the same as anybody else’s home. It is sometimes difficult to cater for everybody’s individual preferences. For example we find that some guests open windows at night, they’re too hot. Hence the option of the wood burner. We are of course always happy to cater for individual needs but an option for ad lib heating simply isn’t viable I’m afraid. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay overall though Property Owner

We loved how the whole barn inside and out were full of flowers. Fortunately for us we arrived just as she welcomes 2 puppies, which was a real bonus for our children. Do not let the fact the property adjoins her own put you off - Marion was discreet throughout and we didn't feel at all she impinged on our privacy. If anything we left feeling jealous that she gets to live in this beautiful part of Wales.
