  I had a relaxed stay here with my two dogs and appreciated the enclosed garden. Lots of walking possibilities nearby, plus the wood stove, Fire TV and Netflix provided an additional level of home comforts. Highly Recommended.

• "Lovely few days at the smithy, Philippa was really helpful and the presents were very well received."

  We found the garden tricky to clean up after the dogs as the dogs could get to parts we couldn’t and there wasn’t a mop to clean the kitchen floor from muddy paws. It was a lovely area with lots of walks and lovely and quiet.

  The Smithy is a quaint cottage in a beautiful part of the country that we love. Ludlow is our favourite place with lots of historical buildings. Bridgnorth not too far away is another historical town. From the cottage there are plenty of places to visit.

  The area is very quiet and relaxing. The wood burner came in handy, as its an old building & the living room was a bit chilly in the evenings, despite it being August! But that may just be me! The cider and crisps welcome pack was a nice touch, as was the bottle of milk (sorry we didn’t use it, as we are lactofree milk wise!). Plenty of towels. Also well provided for tea and coffee wise. Fresh flowers were a nice touch too.

• "Relaxing Christmas stay - so peaceful and quiet."

  Comfy bed, good shower - note there is no longer a bath. Lovely welcome pack, friendly owners couldn't do enough to accommodate our needs, but not obtrusive. Excellent for our aging dog - she really enjoyed the walks around the village. Many thanks Philippa and Warren for a superbly relaxed Christmas and the introduction to Tudges sausages - we are planning to put in a bulk order and collect from the farm direct!

• "A lovely character cottage tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Lucton, nearby amenities in Kingsland."

  Warm, cosy, good facilities. Cooked every night, didn't find anything lacking. Welcomed with free range eggs and milk. Friendly but non-intrusive owners live nearby. Private parking behind the cottage. Close to lots of attractions; we visited Croft Castle, Westonbury Water Gardens, Ludlow, south Shropshire hills and Hay-On-Wye. For dog owners, there is a nice yard for seating at the front and a handy 5 minute loop around the hamlet for ablutions. The bedroom is open plan to the living room, so if you don't want your dog going upstairs, bring a stair gate, or else you'll be building a chair and cushion barrier! :-D Lovely place to stay. Will be returning :-)

• "Wonderful, comfy, welcoming idyll."

  Perfect for one or two people looking to leave their worries behind for a few days. Charming little cobbled courtyard. Well appointed kitchen. Comfy sofa and TV easy to operate. Super comfy bed and good quality bedding. The only slight issue I had was the shower, but that was easily fixed. I had baths! The owner advises me the shower is soon to be replaced.

  Well equipped and beautifully decorated. Loved the little personal touches such as the fresh flowers from the garden, eggs from the hens and local Hereford cider! • "The Smithy at Lucton was a beautifully presented period cottage."

  Immaculate but also very welcoming. Lovely to be able to holiday with our young dog as well. She enjoyed the cool kitchen tiles as it was the hottest week of the year. Located within easy reach of Black & White cottage trail, Westonbury Water Garden (strongly recommend) and Queenswood Park and much more. Thank you Phillipa and Warren for a great stay.

• "The Smithy is ideally situated for beautiful local walks straight from the cottage."

  We highly recommend Croft Ambrey hill fort for stunning views, the Castle and parkland. Further afield, Monkland cheese dairy is well worth a visit for a good ploughman‘s lunch and delicious cheeses to take away. There are plenty more interesting places to visit. We appreciated the peace and quiet around the old cottage which is quaint but in need of some TLC. Do have a torch handy on arrival in the dark. We arrived in complete darkness and pouring rain which first made it a bit difficult to find. We didn’t have our torch handy and struggled to find the key, unlock the door and find the light switch indoors. There is a step inside the kitchen which we could not see in the dark and it resulted in a fall, fortunately without too much harm done. We found the upstairs bedroom smoke alarm fitting off the ceiling and on the window sill. The battery appeared not to be functioning. The fault was reported but nothing came of it. On the plus side, the cottage with its wood stove is cosy and warm and the milk and delicious cider left for us on arrival were very welcome.

• "My husband, myself and our 2 little dogs had a lovely stay at The Smithy."

  We had everything we needed and the welcome basket with fresh eggs, cider and the milk in the fridge were a very thoughtful addition. Phillipa & Warren were lovely and were easily on hand if we needed anything. We visited Ludlow which is within easy distance and Croft Castle which is nearby. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable with handy parking to the rear.

  Perfect size for a couple and a dog. Cottage had everything you could need with comfy sofa and bed. The log burner was excellent for keeping warm following our trips during dry but freezing days. The owners were very helpful and supplied us with extra logs which was very much appreciated.

  On arrival a welcome pack was in the Kitchen. Owners could not do enough for us. The Smithy itself, was comfortable and located in a small Hamlet, surrounded with fields and hills to do some walking. It's also located within easy distance to larger Towns and other places to fulfil your break, and there is full helpful list information is in the smithy. We recommend this Smithy for a break and will be going again.

  We would like to say Thanks so much for the lovely welcome pack as well, I loved hearing the Cockerel in the mornings. Owners Warren and Philippa live next door and what a lovely friendly couple they are, and I have to say where on hand if we needed anything. Places to visit weren’t that far away I think Stratford upon Avon was the longest a hour and a half’s drive. We will defiantly be visiting again at some point our husky loved every minute of the holiday as well and loved the walks and days out.

  Lovely friendly owners on hand if necessary. Loved the special welcome pack which included homemade goodies of sloe gin, jam and eggs. Enjoyed the private cobbled patio area enclosed by cottage garden planting - a lovely place to sit with a glass or two! Walks from the doorstep in a variety of lengths and up into the NT Croft Castle Estate. We've stayed before in this cottage but mainly in Autumn and winter time. This time in summer the dawn chorus was sublime. Thankyou!

• "Firstly we enjoyed Christmas in this beautiful cottage so much that we booked Christmas 2021 whilst we were there!"

  The owners left us a welcome basket of homemade mince pies, lockdown Raspberry jam, Sloes Gin which was delicious and freshly laid eggs from their own hens. The cottage had everything that we had taken with us which included items such as salt, pepper, flour, oil and all of the basics that you wouldn't expect and even a pint of milk in the fridge ready for our arrival. There wasn't anything missing that we needed especially over Christmas and was cleanliness was 10/10. We met the owners at a distance when they kindly delivered some more delicious eggs but they respected our privacy and left us alone. If you have a dog this is perfect the garden is fenced off (even though we wouldn't leave ours outside on her own) the local walks are ideal and Croft Castle is a 5 minute drive with landscape walks. Thank you once again and we look forward to spending another Christmas in your beautiful cottage.

• "Peace and tranquility was the order of the day and 'The Smithy' did not fail us."

  Set in a rural, yet accessible location, it was perfect for exploring Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. Recommend Leominster, Ludlow and Church Stretton where one can access the ANOB of the Shropshire Hills. Dog friendly pubs and cafes are a plenty. Thank you Mr and Mrs Alexander for being wonderful hosts, the Damson Gin was a real tonic!

  TV appeared not to be picking up any stations told owner who lived next door immediately rectified with new TV. Left you alone even though lived next door so lots of privacy nothing better than waking up to bird song and no sounds of constant traffic. Perfect place to start new year off.

  Fully equipped, dog friendly, clean and ideally located for truly amazing walks around the area and farther afield. Set in a quiet hamlet it is within easy driving distance of several National Trust properties and larger towns. We could not have had a better place to stay. One tip....take a torch!

  Decent facilities and kitchen quite well equipped. Lots to see in the location and great pubs within a short drive serving excellent food. Particularly recommend the Riverside in Aymestry which can be walked to during the day for a good Sunday lunch Leominster and Ludlow are quaint towns worth a visit. Hosts are friendly and welcoming. Hopefully return one day.

  There are great walks from the door and a very good forest to walk around and exercise dogs. The cottage is comfortable and clean, the owners are helpful and nice, any problems are easy sorted as they live next door.
