The garden was a great asset and our children and dog had a fantastic time exploring all the little hidden paths! Cottage was really well equipped and the information pack sent in advance was really helpful and a nice touch. Thank you for a fabulous week.

  • "A lovely cottage with caring owners but it is not completely accessible."

The downstairs bedroom and shower room was good but the steps to the garden where very steep and the handrail unsteady. The floors downstairs where very uneven with numerous small steps which made it treacherous for someone with limited mobility. It would have been useful to have more of these details before we booked. We had a lovely holiday with some of our family and this is a great house for fully mobile people.

  • "We loved our stay at Goodalls."

The cottage was gorgeous, especially the lovely mature garden. It was clean, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The beds were super comfy and the main bathroom shower was great. My only suggestion would be some more comfortable garden furniture on the patio area. For guests with dogs, be aware that there is a shooting range somewhere nearby. The sound was not an issue for us humans but our dog is super sensitive and very frightened of bangs, so the garden was out of bounds for her some of the time, which was a real shame. Overall we had a lovely relaxing stay, thank you!

Thank you for the wonderful feedback Lynda, we are so pleased you had an amazing time, There are no shooting ranges near Goodalls which is in an area of outstanding natural beauty AONB and that would never be allowed. It is a quiet rural community surrounded by working farms and crow scarers are on occasion heard as the farmers keep their wildlife numbers under control to protect their young crops Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at Goodalls, a lovely secluded stone cottage with a thatched roof and mature gardens."

The kitchen was well, equipped and the bedrooms were comfortable. The conservatory was a great place for meals, looking at the garden and listening to birdsong. Also a great place to play hide and seek with the kids. Goodalls is in an excellent location, not far from a beach and within a 25 minute drive of anywhere on the island. The recommended pubs also did not disappoint.

  • "We had a lovely stay."

It’s a lovely cosy cottage, quiet setting and not far from amenities. To let people know there are steps to get into the downstairs rooms. This isn’t ideal for people that have mobility issues. The garden is secure and has a lot of seating in the nooks and crannies. However, to get down to the garden there were about 5-6 slightly steep steps. Also, It wasn’t mentioned that there is an unsecured pond at ground level and opposite the steps, this could be a hazard for young children and small pets. seeing and listening to the birds from the conservatory was lovely, but the garden could do with a good mow. It was lovely sitting in the living room, it was so warm and cosy. Bathrooms were lovely and bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Would recommend this cottage to people, but without mobility issues as it’s in a perfect setting, quiet and peaceful.

Thanks for your recommendations....among other activities we walked to the Needles, had a delicious lunch at the Smoking Lobster, visited the Roman Villa, Osborne House and various gardens. And, of course, we have been very lucky with the weather! Many thanks for the loan of your cottage which we shall recommend to friends and family

The garden is superb and the living space and bedrooms all really beautiful. Great sized kitchen with all we needed. Large fridge / freezer, washing machine, dishwasher etc all fab. Conservatory was a super space to relax and eat in. Decor is lovely. All very clean upon arrival and maintenance helped when the power went off. Main bathroom upstairs was my favourite. Luxurious and hot shower. Great location and a stunning historical cottage. Overall a great experience. The negatives: The master bed mattress was very uncomfortable. I could feel the springs digging in every night which made it difficult to sleep. The sofas in the lounge are very small and not as comfortable as they could be. Very strong smell of damp down the ground floor bedroom end- particularly in the bedroom. We found 3 small dog poos in the garden upon arrival.

The kitchen was well equipped and we loved the American style 'fridge/freezer. The WiFi was a little temperamental at times, especially in the downstairs bedroom, but it wasn't a major problem. The information book in the cottage was very helpful too and we weren't far from all the places we wanted to visit. The weather was also kind. The only other thing I would say is that there are a lot of steps inside the cottage and I don't think the garden pond was mentioned, so just be aware of both!

  • "The property is well laid out and spacious."

Kitchen was well equipped and had plenty of room for food shopping to be stored. Conservatory was pleasant once the sun was on it and a great place to sit and read whilst watching the birds and squirrels in the garden. Plenty of coat and boot storage in the corridor to the downstairs bathroom. Bedrooms were all of good size with plenty of clothes storage. Both bathrooms were spot on. The garden was a good size but not dog secure. There are a couple of places where dogs could escape. Wi-Fi and central heating working as designed. Being centrally located at the south of the isle means you are only every 30mins away from anywhere which is good to explore. There are numerous walks right out the door from a short 0.9km loop expanding to whatever you can accomplish in the time/fitness you have. Perfect for dog walking. Overall we had a great stay but there were a few thing that could have been better.... The first few pots and cutlery we took out were not clean. We had to hand wash quite a bit of stuff. We thought there was only one teaspoon until we found the rest of the cutlery hiding in the top of the dishwasher. We did not use the dishwasher during our stay. The fireplace in the lounge is a great feature and having a real fire going makes for a lovely cosy feeling of an evening. Only being supplied with enough wood for 1 fire was very disappointing though. We got additional wood from the local petrol station, 3 bags of logs and 2 kindling costing £30. Beware the Coop would have cost you £60 for the same amount!! Personally I would sooner have paid £50 more for the cottage and had enough wood for the week to hand. A washer/tumble dryer would be a good addition to speed up the clothes drying process on wet days. We used the airer in the conservatory. I know beds are a personal matter but for me both double beds were too soft and creaky. I think once you have had a Simba nothing else compares. Overall we had a great week exploring the Isle and Goodalls was a great base to do it from. Thanks for our stay.

Cosy sitting room for evenings as well as a warm garden room and outside/inside dining. Peaceful and remote but local village pub is only 5 min drive away. 15 min drive to Compton Bay for surfing and body boarding. Had everything we need, home from home! In cooler weather the conservatory is great for relaxing or dining. I would recommend this cottage to many but for the very tall or less mobile folk, there are many steps and lots of ducking under door ways. Location was perfect, we were very active going out every day, visiting all the usual attractions but having Blackgang Chine on our doorstep was great as it’s our daughters (and our) favourite place! Local pub restaurant The Wight Mouse Inn was fab with a great childrens play area. My only niggle would be the master bed upstairs, it makes a bizarre clicking noise unless you find the perfect position where it would stop! Would definitely stay again, thank you!

We're glad you loved Goodalls and had a wonderful time. Please do contact the housekeeper for any niggles. We have a maintenance team on hand and it would have taken them 5 mins to tighten the bed. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention though and we'd love to see you again. • "Delightful property exactly as described."

The kitchen is beautifully equipped and the conservatory bright and cheerful. Can get hot! (But easily cooled if one opens the windows). Parking ample and safe. Lovely garden and pond with seating areas. Beds comfy and large! Some reviewers have mentioned the lack of separate shower upstairs (there is one downstairs). In fact there's a hand-held shower that comes with the big beautiful bath upstairs so it didn't bother us. Hot water as and when one needs it. Small touches such as a couple of balls and bowls for one's dog much appreciated. My only observation is I'm used to the hot tap being on the left. Here some taps the other way round - and that's by design, not by fault, as clearly the fittings are of superior quality (and have left and right marked!). Maybe that's an IoW peculiarity, so vive la différence! Do book if you get the chance and if a peaceful, character-full property, with all mod cons, is what you are looking for.

Although it is stated in the itinerary the fact there is only one shower and it’s on the ground floor is a bit of a pain when seven people staying. Upstairs bathroom is large and we all felt that a stand in shower would be a good addition to the roll top bath. There was no folder that we could find with any info on the local area in the property which would have been helpful. We have stayed in many cottages and they have always had one along with a comments book that previous guests could leave there recommendations of places to visit and thoughts about the property. Overall a great holiday in a lovely place. Not suitable to people with mobility issues due to number of steps, especially down to the garden which are very high and uneven.

The kitchen is modern and well equipped. Beautiful landscaped garden too. The property is almost 500 years old and it is full of charm. The area where it stands is the rural side of the island with lovely walks everywhere. The sea can be seen from the end of the road.
