  • "White haven was probably the best cottage we have stayed in."

We have never been in a cottage so we'll equipped although we never used most of it (we don't cook on holiday) everything you could need was there including tea coffee and sugar. The Bus links 5 mins walk were brilliant. We thank the Owners for a fantastic holiday.

It was a well equipped flat with a lovely garden that was private and peaceful. We saw owners a handful of times as passing through. Perfect location, 5 mins to Lake Beach and to walk into sandown. We would definitely return. Just sad holiday over had made ourselves quite at home there.

It has everything you need for self catering. Lovely friendly owners. Great little out door space, and good parking spot. I personally found the sofa alittle uncomfortable and it could have done with an armchair rather than the 2 existing chairs Overall a lovely stay I'd definitely recommend

We had a lovely stay. The property is small but lovely. Perfect for the two of us and our small dog. Comfortable, very well equipped and welcoming. The garden is an absolute delight. We loved it . So much so , I have come home to use some of their ideas in my own garden. The owners have thought of pretty much everything to make your stay very enjoyable and relaxed. We could not praise this property enough and for the owners thoughtfulness and hard work in making such a delightful holiday rental.

It was in a great location, parking included. The hosts were super friendly, left some nice touches such as milk, tea and coffee on our arrival, a little gift and a note to welcome us. Even towels we could use in the beach. It was the perfect size for a family of 4, comfortable, had everything we needed for the week. Would stay there again in a heartbeat and will recommend to friends and family. The only let down was the British Summer delivering rain. But we had two tvs and board games to entertain us. Thanks for a great stay!

  • "Amazing little place with everything to make our stay a home from home."

Very clever how it’s set out making use of every space. Garden lovely and parking space a bonus. If I had to pick something negative it would be that some of the kitchen utensils needed a wash before use (although the rest of the cottage was immaculate) and the 6.30am wake up from people walking around upstairs (could be that I’m just a light sleeper). I’d certainly come back and recommend to anyone.

Sorry that you are a light sleeper. The sound proofing between floors was carried out in accordance with Building Regs. We are giving this aspect some serious thought. Property Owner

  • "Only a few niggly things."

Garden not private, although there is a privacy screen inside the gated part but has to be taken down if you want to go out the gate. Wi fi is very poor . TV reception very poor. Great shower but as much water sprays on the floor as on the body. Well equipped accommodation even down to loo roll, dishwasher tablets, washing machine pods, tea, coffee, sugar. Kevin and Jenny very helpful, especially when the washing machine broke down mid wash. They took the washing and finished it off in their own machine and dried it. Steps down to the beach only a 5 minute walk away, although dogs not allowed on the beach from May to September, so if you are planning long leisurely walks on the beach with your pooch, don't holiday on the island during these months.

The flat is very well equipped and there is a designated parking bay at the rear of the property. However, we hardly used our car as the buses and trains are so convenient and plentiful. Also a Tesco Express and excellent fish and chip shop a short walk away. Very suitable for dogs as there is a park at the end of the road, or a short walk to the coastal path. We enjoyed a drink in the late afternoon sun on the enclosed patio. We would definitely recommend and hope to return one day.

The only disappointing thing was Sykes never informed us there was specific parking at rear of property although Kevin the owner told us that he had informed Sykes about the parking. On arrival had to ask neighbour to park outside their property to unload cases then find a parking space in another road! Not the owners fault at all in fact they were more than helpful after introducing themselves .

We personally found the lounge tv too high. Unfortunately the owner/owners turn up unannounced in the garden. With the gate being next to the 2 entrance doors to the property we found it a little uncomfortable.

We allow our guests to walk through and to appreciate our garden. We must have access to it in order to tend to and water it. Their permission was sought prior to watering. A retractable privacy screen has now been fitted for anyone that wishes to use it and it is hoped that this will alleviate some of the comments. Property Owner

Not happy regarding privacy as the owner lived up stairs so walking through the garden area also got impression that the gentleman did not like dogs some comments made regarding my dogs did not appreciate them in short you don’t like dogs please don’t rent out being dog friendly the accommodation was very nice just need to sort out the privacy issue

Sykes Cottages instructions clearly states " up to 2 well behaved dogs". These 2 were not. The slightest noise, even opening our front door or gate upstairs, set them off barking. Every time we walked through to our garden/parking place, they not only barked all the time, but kept biting the bottom of my trousers. On the last day I did speak out and said in a firm voice "Stop biting" _ which they did! The dog owners had no verbal control over the dogs. The dog owners did not exercise their dogs before at least mid-day and consequently their patio became a dogs toilet, resulting in my wife stepping into the dog mess whilst being constantly barked at. Had the bite drawn blood they would have been evicted. We did not intend to write an adverse comment about their stay but as they have fired the first shot, we feel we should set the record straight. In conclusion we welcome well behaved pets who will find some dog treats upon their arrival. Property Owner

  • "Would appreciate more transparent info pre booking."

Eg privacy was not good. Owners used our courtyard for access to parking and their flat above. Our privacy was compromised as we never knew when they would appear. Plus the cottage was dog friendly. Some dogs are protective. Owners just walked into our space with no regard for our dog who may have bitten them. Our dog was repeatedly surprised by their appearance which was disruptive to our peaceful stay. Dishes and cutlery needed washing before we could use them. WiFi was very poor and could not even connect or use our Netflix account to watch a movie at night. Many folk are vegan so would appreciate being asked when booking. Soy milk and vegan welcome biscuits please NO dairy? Overall, not ideal with being under owner with lack of privacy.

Hosts did all they could to ensure you had everything you needed. Nice seating area outside for those late evening rays. Lake itself was a bit disappointing with only one pub in reasonable walking distance - and stagger back - but they did not serve evening meals. Tesco Express, Chinese, Kebabs and chippy all easy to walk to. Supermarkets and KFC about a 5 minute drive away. Everywhere was very dog friendly with water bowls outside houses, even some with dog biscuits. Used the holiday let as a base. Day trips by car to every part of the Island to see attractions. Job done.
