• "Wee Cot is very cosy and welcoming."

  We felt very relaxed and comfortable, and our dog had the beauty of being able to explore a secure garden. All the necessary facilities were available if needed and we would recommend Wee Cot as a holiday base that is convenient to all the islands attractions. All three of us felt at home there!

• "As I am disabled, it was a challenging stay as there were so many steps and the staircase was old and twisty."

  The cottage is on a main road and there was very heavy traffic day and night making sleep difficult. The cottage was really attractivly furnished. The garden was rather rough and unattractive.

• "Was expecting the garden to be better cared for."

  Very overgrown and the grass hadn’t been cut for some time. Disappointing. The road outside is so very busy. Must be careful with either children or dogs running out. Cleanliness was adequate. The toaster needed cleaning and the sink could have done with some bleach down it. Very surprised that there wasn’t any cleaning products available and only 1 bin bag. Luckily I had taken extra toilet roll as I had read before that there wasn’t a spare one . On the whole we had a pleasant ,stay just a shame about the garden and the busy road. Excellent for catching the bus, stops are very nearby. Have noticed on a property website that the house is up for sale, so maybe that is why they have let the garden get out of control a bit.

• "Everything was great and as described."

  With throws on the sofa we did not find it uncomfortable as some of the reviews said and we wouldn’t say it smelt musty either. Would recommend culver haven inn for food a short drive away. Bugle was average but certainly not bad. If you park beside wee cot it can be a little hairy pulling out onto the high street, just need to take it slow. We would definitely use again.

• "My dog and I spent 2 weeks at Wee Cot."

  The dog loved the garden, it has interesting corners to explore and was secure enough for a Jack Russell. A very relaxing space for a coffee too. The house is 400 years old, and very special, with double glazing, so visitors need to open windows occasionally to keep it ventilated. The whole place was perfect, warm, quirky, and very accessible. The sofa is ideal for afternoon naps. The kitchen has all I needed, and the frying pan is one of the best. If you really must have an air fryer or waffle maker, then bring your own! I would also bring slippers, as the bathroom floor is chilly at night. The shop opposite has everything you need, but I also got a Tesco home delivery which worked perfectly. The Hungry Bear does a fine dinner as does the Bugle, and both welcome dogs. Lots of easy walks, but you might need wellies. The church was very welcoming and I enjoyed the bell ringing. We travelled by train and found it a simple 10 minute walk to the house. Crossing one road at the traffic lights. The bus services are so reliable and close by. Travel from Portsmouth harbour was simple and stress free. This makes Wee Cot an ideal location to enjoy the immediate surroundings and the island. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

• "Lovely little cottage, enjoyed our stay."

  Just a few things that could be improved. Sofa is REALLY uncomfortable, plug is broken in bathroom so you cannot fill to wash or shave. Kitchen cupboards, although tops clean, smelt musty. I don’t want this to put people off because it is a lovely little cottage it just needs minor adjustments to make it perfect. Nice touch to receive milk in fridge and shortbread thank you.

• "Sadly, we would not recommend this property."

  Brading is a very run-down town on an otherwise beautiful island. The cottage itself is sadly neglected and whilst it looked clean enough on the surface it certainly wasn't on closer inspection. Dirty oven, musty kitchen cupboards and cobwebs on the gaudy light fitting in the dining area, The lovely little garden was very overgrown and therefore not pleasant to spend any time in. VERY uncomfortable sofa in the lounge. Kitchen was also poorly equipped.

• "Wee Cott is a sweet little place, ideal for 2 (plus Charlie Dog), or 2 children, though would be a little cramped with 4 adults."

  We found the leather sofa a little uncomfortable, and the garden / lawn a bit overgrown. However, the double bed was comfortable and we would stay again.

  It is a bit quirky due to the age of the property, so doorways are quote small and the staircase is a challenge. Bring your own bottle opener and can opener as the ones provided are very hard work!

• "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Wee Cot during our first ever visit to the Isle of Wight."

  All of us, human and dog alike, particularly enjoyed the lovely garden and a lot of the best photos we took that week were in the garden! Brading itself is a fantastic location for a holiday rental - somewhere nice and quiet away from the relative bustle of towns like Ryde and Newport, and oh-so-historic, but still only 15 or 20 minutes’ drive from anywhere of interest on the island. The only negative (if we have to even find one) is that, due to some sort of car meet in a nearby town the first weekend of our holiday, Brading’s high street was busier than usual with vehicles revving engines, squealing tyres and backfiring as they cruised through the town. This shouldn’t put anyone else off, though, as it wasn’t a problem for us all the time we were out exploring the island. Thank you so much to Sykes and the Wee Cot’s owners for letting us stay in their lovely little cottage - we would most definitely stay there again!

• "We enjoyed our stay at wee cot, the cottage is lovely, clean & cozy & had everything we needed."

  We had been to the island before, but not for many years… I used to holiday here as a child with my family & it holds special memories. The cottage is in a good position for travelling around the island. We visited Shanklin several times (the ice-creams & dog ice creams on the beachfront are very good) Sandown, Ryde, Cowes & Yarmouth. We ate at The Garlic Farm (excellent breakfast) and The Yarbridge Arms (nice lunch) We loved “Off The Rails” at Yarmouth, if you are eating out with dogs, this is the place for you. We used the chip shop & the convenience store and sat outside at the pub. We were blessed with some lovely weather and travelled with our 2 spaniels who are used to accompanying us. We use Sykes cottages a lot & this is our 4th one in the past year, since lock down restrictions began to ease. There is a lot of traffic noise but did not really bother us. We used the driveway next door to unload & load the car & then the parking pass for the car-park next to the church… no problems at all. The owner quickly dealt with a maintenance issue we had. We were very disappointed with the garden, as others have said it is overgrown. I can understand the owners are probably going for the “shabby chic cottage look” but the garden has some beautiful plants & could be so pretty if tidied up. My husband is a very keen gardener & despite working long hours in a stressful job, keeps ours immaculate. The owner very politely contacted us on our last day to ask if she could cut the grass, which made it much better… although a bit late in our stay for us. If I wanted to be “picky” I could mention a few other small issues, although not really a problem for us. The bathroom sink plug (push down mechanism, not plug, we have the same one at home) did not work, so my husband could not fill the sink & had to keep the water running when shaving. We mainly used the shower & bath so not a problem. The “stable door” at the back seemed to have a mind of its own, it would of been very useful with the dogs. The light in the fridge did not work, neither did the lamp next to it. The hot water seemed a bit hit & miss. There are no curtains as such in the second bedroom (except net) could be an issue if children sleep there, waking early with the light streaming through. My husband knows… he slept in there for snoring… The carriage clock on the mantelpiece did not work and had a very old corroding looking battery in it…I guess if it’s there it might as well work! All very minor issues although not something we’ve experienced in any other Sykes cottage we have had & the cottage could be so much better with a little TLC. All in all though, a lovely few days away. The island is still as beautiful as I remembered it

• "We have enjoyed another fabulous stay at Wee Cott."

  The cottage is warm, cosy & has everything needed for a week away. It has an enclosed garden which makes it perfect for the dogs. Brading is a lovely village with a shop, pubs, restaurant and chip shop. The parking permit for the car park is great.....though the walk up isn't always my favourite! There is road noise, but it doesn't detract from a wonderful week.

• "A pretty little cottage exactly as described."

  We had a marvellous time with fantastic weather. Unfortunately we hadn't realised how noisy the traffic outside would be, but we did so much walking we slept well regardless.

• "The cottage itself was beautiful, clean and well situated for exploring the island and had a gorgeous garden."

  However, the kitchen was very poorly equipped and it was difficult to prepare meals. Also, the listing stated that you could park at the pub next door to pack and unpack. Unfortunately, the pub was closed, and obviously had been for some time, and we had to park up the hill in the public car park and make numerous journeys back and forward with luggage. The site needs updating and this issue highlighted, as for many people this would rule the cottage out.

  Thank you for your valuable feedback. A new washing machine, microwave, cooker, fridge and freezer have been installed at the cottage and we have updated the listing with regard to unpacking at the pub next door. We do hope you will visit again in the future. Property Owner

• "We enjoyed a great bank holiday weekend at Wee Cot."

  The cottage is lovely with a safe enclosed garden good for children and dogs alike. The cottage is located a short drive from Sandown with a large section of the beach dog friendly all year round. In the village there are a few pubs and a shop just over the road so no need to drive if you don't want to. The owners were very helpful with some questions we had and overall we had a great weekend.

• "A lovely period cottage, but we were disappointed by the garden as it was overgrown."

  We also felt the noise was a bit of an issue, but not a problem if you're going out for the day. We live in the country so we're not used to traffic noise, but maybe others who live in the town would not notice as much.

• "We had a great last minute 2 night stay in Wee Cot."

  We were so grateful to the hosts for being able to accommodate us at such short notice as we were visiting family. It's a great location for visiting various places on the Island. We enjoyed seeing Sandown beach and browsing the local shops. The cottage is well set up for cooking and has all the equipment you'd need. The upstairs has a very cosy feel and my daughters loved staying together in their bedroom. The bed in the master bedroom is comfortable and again well equipped with hairdryer/iron. The living room is cosy and spacious and the garden is lovely. A real sun spot at the top - perfect for a morning tea! Thanks again, we will definitely stay again. Also - Key collection/return is so simple it makes it ideal especially if arriving late etc. Nice clear instructions for arrival/departure.

• "Very nice cottage in an excellent location for the surrounding attractions."

  Road noise was noticeable from the front at peak times as it's quite a busy road, but this did not impact us particularly. Kitchen table rather a squeeze for 4 (2 adults and 2 children) as we cooked in most nights, but we managed ok. All appliances worked well and good heating ( gas fire very warming in October weather) and excellent hot water facilities. Washing machine was useful (outside under cover). Owner very helpful for any queries and came round to assist on one occasion. Parking was very convenient (free via a permit) a short walk up the road and helpful to be able to off load in the pub (sadly now closed) car park next door.

• "This was our 2nd visit to Wee Cott."

  The key collection was simple. Parking is at the car park & a permit is provided. The cottage is quirky, warm & welcoming. We fully appreciated the biscuits, milk & dog treats. The cottage is on a main road, so there is some noise, but this didn't bother us at all. The owners are brilliant, providing the info needed to enjoy the cottage & local area. We had a fabulous holiday & are already planning our next stay. Thank you!

• "We spent a lovely week in Wee Cot ,the cottage is really quaint it is very well equipped and clean ,the owners have done a lovely job keeping it ‘cottagey’."

  It is situated on a busy road so the traffic noise is the only drawback but there isn’t much you can do about that and we got used to it . Brading isn’t far from anywhere so it’s well situated for touring the island ,the beaches are beautiful and the whole island is beautifully clean . We had booked this holiday before Covid and were quite worried about travelling during a pandemic but the island has take the every precaution and everywhere we visited felt well organised and safe .we will definitely come back and see more of the island and would love to stay at Wee Cot again !

• "This is a lovely, comfortable cottage with a great garden if you take dogs."

  The listing is quite clear in the description of downstairs bathroom only and no parking outside. The main road was extremely busy while we were there and great care needs to be taken. The noise wasn't a problem at all but the speed of some of the traffic made negotiating the narrow pavements a little tricky. The Isle of Wight is a great holiday location and this cottage is well situated for exploring both the local area and the wider island attractions.

• "Curtains still an issue."

  Blind a bit difficult to get up again. Lighting in bathroom rather more decorative than functional especially if you want to shave as they change colour continuously. Recommend tomatoes in the garden, they are the most delicious we have ever eaten. Overall a charming period cottage with comfortable settee you can lie out on and a handy gas fire for those chilly evenings. The shop opposite has everything and very handy if you have forgotten some vital ingredient when cooking.

• "Lovely little cottage in an extremely friendly Town."

  Ideal for family, double bed and twin beds suitable for small adults/ children. The twin bedroom would have benefitted from a mirror and both bedrooms from black out blinds, especially the front bedroom which has a street light near by.

• "Clean and comfortable with pleasant rear garden."

  The front bedroom needs heavy curtains to reduce the light and noise from the busy main road through the village. The fact that the bathroom is downstairs needs pointing out on the listing because it is a pain having to traipse downstairs in the middle of the night should the need arise. A few extra kitchen utensils would be an advantage e.g. A fish slice and a decent French cook's knife. The large knife bends when trying to slice through onions, etc. The overnight hot water boiler makes too much noise and keeps a light sleeper awake. It has then to be turned off resulting in no hot water in the morning. Otherwise the cottage was fine and the owners were thoughtful enough to leave milk, coffee, tea, biscuits and even some treats for the dog.

  I am sorry to hear you experienced issues during your stay at the cottage. We want you to have all advertised facilities on our website therefore I can advise that the property is advertised as having a ground floor bathroom. • "The cottage was lovely-very comfortable and secure garden for the dogs."

  However our experience was similar to other people who have commented on the road noise. We had to sleep with the bedroom window closed. Also some thick curtains would help in the bedroom to avoid car headlights as they come down the road. A minor point is that the rubber seal on the bathroom basin plug is missing which meant that the hard-earned water could not be retained in the sink.

• "The cottage was absolutely lovely."

  The decor was beautiful. Spotless. All the essentials available with some little extras which made our stay a pleasure. Travelled with my partner, 15yo son and dog. Just as advertised. Situated in the perfect spot for us. Brading high street is charming, so the little walks up the hill to the car park were a pleasure. Theres a playing field with a good track for a dog walk just up the hill off of The Mall. Private fenced/gated garden which was great. We only found Bembridge Beach (highly recommended) on our way home as we would have loved to of spent the whole day on this dog friendly beach. 15mins away from Weecot. Parked at the Tollgate Cafe and treated ourselves to coffee and cake after exploring in the rock pools and skimming stones. Wherever we travelled was not far from Weecot, although we didn’t mind the journeys as the scenery is stunning. My only two criticisms would be; although it didn’t bother me, my partner couldn’t seem to get used to the noise of the traffic on the high street. And secondly we had to hang a towel over the window in the bedroom as not to woken up with the 5am sunrise

• "We have just returned from a fabulous week staying at Wee Cott in Brading."

  The cottage was quaint & full of character. On arrival the directions were simple to follow & key collection information couldn’t have been easier. We were very grateful for the welcome treats. Parking was nearby & the arrangement with the pub next door for unloading was great. The garden was delightful. The weather was amazing & being able to sit out was a real treat. The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed. Wee Cott is on the main road & as it was so hot, we kept the window open. This meant there was road noise, but we were expecting it & it didn’t detract from our overall enjoyment of staying here. It is a 2 minute walk to the bus stop, so we took ourselves to our favourite IOW places by bus. The service is regular & £55 for a group of up to 5 for a week, it was fantastic value, meaning the car spent most of its time in the car park. The Costcutter over the road was good for essentials & the local pubs all get great write ups for food.

• "We did nt expect the cottage to be LITERALY on l of the busiest roads on the island, CONSTANT traffic noise, day and NIGHT."

  We are both slightly disabled, and the parking was TOO FAR AWAY from the cottage and UP A HILL, which was too much for my wife, this spoilt our holiday. We feel your description of this property needs to state that there is NO EASY PARKING at the cottage, and noise from traffic could be a problem. Had we known the true picture, we would not have chosen this property. You could also mention to the owners that in places the property is alittle shabby, weeds in the paths dont give good first impressions. Regrettably the wrong property for our needs.
