  • "Overall, we were very happy with the cottage."

It was quiet and well located for walking. Despite the lateness of the year, were able to sit out in the garden. Our only issue is that the cleaning was superficial. The inside roof of the microwave was covered in tomato, although the other sides were clean. The fridge smelt as if it had been cleaned with bleach and the Aga was dirty. However, we would consider staying in the property again.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful old but well maintained property with a lovely big garden."

Comfortable beds. Lovely bathroom. We are used to an Aga but this may cause anxiety in some who are not used to cooking in one. Our only suggestion would be to provide some good quality bath towels as those supplied were very small & not very absorbent.

Thank you for staying with us and providing feedback. We'd love to have you again. We have since purchased a set of better quality bath towels upon your suggestion. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Clatterford."

We enjoyed walking up to Carisbrooke Castle and the kids loved splashing in the ford just down the road. We were without a duvet for the 4th single bed which is the pull out bed (not the first time this has happened to us with pull out beds at another property) - this was resolved the first night there. We were unlucky to be caught in 2 storms over the new year and the double room had a leak in the corner. The maintenance man was sent out straight away. There were more facilities than advertised in the kitchen although a few more glasses and some more coat hooks in the cloakroom area would have been helpful given how wet it was. The aga kept us very warm and it was very nice to dry boots by the aga. Although, we have an open fire at home and it would have been nice to light the fire as it looked so cosy in the cottage front room (we understood why the other stove could not be lit.) Overall - great stay would recommend. It was peaceful, friendly neighbours, an easy walk to the local pub for a meal and great to explore the west side of the Isle of Wight - which was a change for us! Would definitely go back.

Thank you for the kind words. We'd love to have you again and we'll attend to your suggestions. Sadly, the insurance company does not allow for the fireplaces to be used. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and garden."

To the owners;-You are very fortunate to have this lovely home in a wonderful situation close to Carisbrooke Castle. I don' t have any complaints, but just a few minor comments to make it more comfortable for visitors. Some extra cups and dinner plates would have saved such frequent washing up, or use of the dish-washer. Secondly, while our bedding was very clean (pillows, duvet and mattress cover in excellent condition) the bottom sheet and pillow cases of our bed were either very worn ("bobbly" sheet) or of poor quality. Finally, there were floor cushions which could have been intended for dogs or humans, so it wasn't clear how clean they were. As already reported, the black dustbin was completely full when we arrived, but a phone call to Sykes very quickly remedied this, and the bin was emptied the same day. I have already recommended 19, Clatterford Shute to friends looking for somewhere to stay on the Isle of Wight with their family. Lovely house! Lovely holiday! Thank you!

Thank you very much for the nice words. We will investigate the suggestions you've made and ensure they are improved on. We'd love to have you stay again! Property Owner

  • "What an amazing gem the Cloud Castle Cottage is!"

Absolutely gorgeous location within walking distance to the historical motte-and-bailey Carisbrooke castle, exceptionally beautiful, listed building with thatched roof, super clean, spacious, and full of character to accommodate young children and teenager for one of the most amazing holidays, ever. It was perfect! The back garden has manicured lawn to play all day or relax with glass of local sparkling wine. The cottage interior is stunning, shaker countryside kitchen with large Belfast sink and magnificent Aga, which was fabulous experience to use for any cooking, truly inspiring and surprisingly very easy to use for our first time. Loved it !!! Master bedroom is furnished with beautiful period bed, all very comfortable and decorated with stylish antique furniture and crystal chandeliers in bedroom and bathroom. I must say, I have really enjoyed the fabulous traditional bathtub after all day with the children. The cottage itself is surrounded by stunning countryside and wonderful paths for walking and exploring. My children absolutely loved the time spend on the nearby Sundown and Shanklin beaches or exploring the infamous Garlic farm where we have stopped for delicious family lunch which I highly recommend visiting. I wish we would stay few more days; four days is just not simply enough, and I would highly recommend staying for longer, there is so much to see and visit. One of the best holidays, ever. Thank you so much and hopefully we will be booking soon!

  • "The house could do with some maintenance."

Lock on front door only had one screw in it ! The catch on the lock was also the wrong way around . Stains on furniture and carpets . Could do with a washing line of some kind . Not just an airer. After 3 of us had showers the water was cold . No good for large families, which the house could easily accommodate. The driveway is also very tight to get into and out of, with poor visibility. Not mentioned on the advert . All things mentioned are fixable and would suggest they get looked at . As it is a really lovely place in a great location. Food at the local pub ( Eight Bells ) was great and highly recommended.

Thank you for providing feedback. The 8th Bells is a great recommendation indeed especially our children love the playground there. We'll investigate the other points and fix, what we can, asap. Property Owner

  • "From the moment we drove up to 19 Clatterford Shute, we were in love."

Nestled in the outskirts of Carisbrooke, this medieval, thatched cottage is a gem. The charm of the rustic beams and original features had us marveling at every turn, offering a perfect blend of history and comfort. The entrance hall, with its half-vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, instantly made us feel at home. The living/dining room was cozy and inviting, providing the perfect setting for our family evenings. For quieter moments, the snug room with a well-stocked library was a delightful haven. The kitchen, equipped with a marvelous AGA range, was a delight for our home-cooked meals. We relished our meals, whether in the dining room, the garden patio, or the inviting living space. The bedrooms were tastefully appointed, each offering its unique charm. The master suite, with its vaulted ceiling, king-size bed, and en-suite shower room, was our personal retreat. The extensive garden, with its idyllic pond, was a joy to explore. The two storage sheds were indeed handy for storing our bikes. The convenience of the utility room with laundry facilities was also a thoughtful touch. The location was perfect for our family. We loved our walks to the iconic Carisbrooke Castle, the charming village, and the lovely Castle Street Ford. Newport, Cowes, and the coastal towns of Ryde, Shanklin, and Sandown were easily accessible and offered plenty of activities. Overall, Cloud Castle was the perfect base for our Isle of Wight break. We left with beautiful memories and look forward to returning to this delightful cottage. Highly recommended!"

  • "Thank you for requesting feedback."

We have enjoyed many property-based holidays with other companies and had been looking forward to this, a long-awaited family reunion. The cottage appeared idyllic and was ideally positioned, with many charming features and good quality fittings. Sadly though, one important aspect was entirely missed by your assessors and this made our visit memorable for quite the wrong reasons. Warning had been made of the steep staircases and tripping hazards associated with what looked to have been a lowered floor in the living room, but there was no mention of some impossibly low beams and lintels in the kitchen, entrance hallway, and upper floor. We all found moving around uncomfortable but for the three adult males – each over six foot – it was potentially dangerous while at least two doorways would be hard to negotiate for those considerably below average height. Had we been aware of such hazards we would not have booked this property and definitely won’t be trusting Sykes again.

‘Thank you for providing the feedback. The very old cottage indeed has some tudor style old passageways as well as lower head height in the kitchen, which might require some negotiation for very tall people, but to assure you that none of the ceilings have been ‘lowered’. Just to add that other areas in the cottage have plenty of head height, especially the bedrooms, long hallway, utility room, annex bedroom, and i’m sorry to hear it limited your ability to enjoy the cottage. Myself being a tall person as well, i must admit it has not directly impacted myself but i will liaise with Sykes if we can make this more explicit.’ Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay here and would be happy to return."

The house is spacious with a large enclosed garden - ideal for us as we have a dog. It is in a quiet area with plenty of walks and pubs within easy reach. The house does need a few tweaks here and there to bring it up to top notch holiday let standard. At the moment it feels more as if you are staying in someone else's home rather than a dedicated holiday let. But we rather liked that and found the house welcoming and relaxing, with a quirky rustic charm. Overall it is very comfortable and many of the features - such as the bathroom and showers, laundry room, and private plentiful parking space - are excellent. I'd just advise a little caution if you are visiting with very small children as there are two open staircases - and the one from the living room is particularly steep - plus the Aga is very hot to touch (but great for cooking!). So a little extra vigilance would be called for. Overall, a great find. And would particularly recommend as ideal dog-friendly holiday accommodation. We hope to return!

Lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay and we'd be delighted to welcome you back in the future. Thank you for your comment on the features, which we will look to incorporate where possible. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay and thoroughly loved the location and style of the cottage."

However we have the following observations: 1. There were a lot of cobwebs and dust all around the cottage. Particularly the downstairs bathroom expelair and above the shower, the white wardrobe in the double room and the headboard in the downstairs bedroom were dusty and in need of a good clean. 2. There were no bedside tables or lamps in the bedrooms. No socket for a hair dryer near a mirror. No furniture except a bed in the bedroom downstairs so nowhere to put clothes, suitcase etc. 3. Insufficient crockery and glasses for the amount of people. The cutlery was like picnic cutlery rather than proper stainless steel. Other than that the kitchen was well supplied. 4. Front door key stiff and hard to lock/unlock. 5. There were no clear instructions for check out regarding the bins, and where to leave linen and towels. 6. All the windows were dirty on the outside. 7. There seemed to be a lot of personal stuff in drawers and in the bathroom cabinets. 8. There were no mattress covers on the beds or pillows. 9. The roof was clearly newly thatched and it looked great but there was lots of straw around the doors which was a bit messy. These are not criticisms but suggestions that would improve the cottage and make a stay more comfortable in our opinion.

We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and thank you for taking the time providing a few suggestions which we’ll incorporate and try to fix, where possible, a.s.a.p. Thanks again. Property Owner
