"Very nice chalet pity spoilt by very uncomfortable settee and chair"

"This is a lovely little cottage in a pretty setting."
It is well equipped and has a lovely outside area for a dog, however it is not enclosed as described so your pet could wonder off if inclined. I found the sofa a little uncomfortable as it's deep and the back cushions weren't very firm, but there was a few lose cushions that could be used for back support. The downstairs bedroom and toilet/ shower room was great for my elderly mother and the loft room with a double bed was spacious and comfortable. Some limited head room over the sink and bath but descent shower in the downstairs bathroom. The cleaners had missed a few cobwebs but overall the cottage was clean and tidy. Freshwater is a small town but it has a petrol station, large Tesco and a lovely pub serving food as well as a chip shop and a couple of other food outlets. You do need to drive to get to attractions but it is very handy for the ferry crossing in Yarmouth which is a few mins drive away. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, I would stay here again!.

"Lovely location within easy reach of the many attractions on the iland."
The cottage was very clean and tidy. We found the sofa uncomfortable and the cupboards lacking in equipment.
-
"This property is in a lovely location with plenty of space in outside areas."
It's well equipped and clean. The only reason I have scored down a little was purely the heat. We affectionately referred to the cottage as the sweatbox for our whole stay. Even on rainy days the attic bedroom was exceptionally warm and caused disturbed sleep throughput. Our neighbours in the cottage next door were experiencing the same. A few well placed fans or air con units would make a world of difference

"Comfortable yet pretty basic."
It gives the impression it is rather secluded but there are other properties around, currently including building work. It would have been nice to know this upon booking as it did spoil the view. Lounge/dining furniture could do with an update, overall it’s comfortable, it’s clean and pleasant but no wow factor throughout. Conveniently located to travel around the Isle of Wight, a brisk 20 minute walk to Yarmouth or any easy drive or bus ride. Lovely and warm in the winter months we are sure but on sunnier days could do with a fan in the main bedroom and more kitchen utensils like washing up brush or cloth. Good location for dogs with outdoor space. Okay for two adults, two children but feel it would be too small for four adults due to small downstairs space and lack of seating. Easy check in and check out.

"Pretty much perfect accommodation and location, aided by mostly dry weather."
Norton Green is a lovely, unspoilt area right next to Golden Hill Country Park so off-lead dog walking available from the front door of the cottage - brilliant. You can also walk to the beach where there is a good coffee shop and restaurant and from there can follow the coastal path. As I think others have noted the settee and armchair are not comfortable to sit in for very long, but comfort wise everything else is fine. Will be booking again!

"Enjoyable holiday in IoW."
Cottage easy to find, clean, tidy and warm. Although the bed was a bit soft for our liking and seemed to slope towards the middle. The settee and armchair were not very comfortable when used for long periods, which were sometimes necessary due to the rain. Prompt replacement of smoke alarm battery when that ran low, thank you.

"Fantastic stay will recommend need attention to uneven part of floor I’m living area Otherwise excellent stay"
-
"Property was easy to find, clean and well presented, had everything we needed, nice to."
Find a property that is dog friendly, we will definitely recommend and probably return

"No complains very good booked again for 2024"
-
"We found the Cottage clean and welcoming covering our requirements, especially with the space outside for our Dogs to have a run around morning and evening."
And walks nearby. Beds very comfortable too after days out sightseeing. And for those not wanting to drive everyday, a short walk away we took the No.7 bus that passes by every half hour. *The outside garden table could have done with a lick of paint and maybe some cushions provided, otherwise everything was very acceptable. And as advertised. We enjoyed our stay .

"This is a beautiful, if expensive, holiday cottage."
However, I was EXTREMELY ANNOYED when I arrived and the floor of the double bedroom was soaking wet. The window has obviously been left open by the previous tenant; when we arrived all windows were closed. The cleaner must have known about the floor and I contacted the owner that afternoon. Nothing was done or said. For the first few nights I was stepping out of bed onto a WET floor, which then remained damp for a few days with a damp smell appearing. Had this been a hotel I would have been re- roomed. I’m very disappointed that nothing was done and no compensation offered. This is unacceptable in a cottage costing over £1000. Sykes were very helpful but sadly the owner was not interested. Other smaller comments are that the App said there was hot tub and their wasn’t; the clothes airer was broken and whoever thought it was a good idea to put a full length mirror on the bathroom door directly opposite the toilet clearly didn’t sit on the toilet! I have used Sykes many times and had some lovely cottages but this one and the owner need to revisit customer service sadly.

"We really enjoyed our stay and would be very happy to return."
We have only one suggestion: we actually needed to find an emergency vet for our dog on the Sunday night; she collapsed . We think it could be useful for future guests to expand the introduction sheet, to include nearest Hospital contact details and address, emergency vet address and phone number, Dr and Dentist contact details. To reiterate, we really enjoyed the propertey's amenities and comfort.

"Single beds a little noisy when turning, ok for children i would imagine, sofa not comfortable at all."
-
"We all enjoyed our stay at the Yarmouth 6 cottage It was clean tidy and comfortable, one thing we noticed was how well insulated it is, as the weather was incredibly wet & windy but it was still cosy inside."
There was a small coffee machine in the kitchen which isn’t on the information, so maybe that should be added to the summary. There was no soap in the upstairs bathroom but there was some in the downstairs one and in the kitchen. It was a good location nice dog walks right from the door, We also walked down to the beach which didn’t take long.
-
"Excellent value for money."
Nice location. Ideal base for exploring the island. Dog friendly with nice walks nearby

"As my previous emails and phone calls to Sykes you will know that I will not ..."
As my previous emails and phone calls to Sykes you will know that I will not very happy with the overall cleanliness of six Yarmouth cottages and the owners attitude

"A very pleasant place to stay in a lovely location on the western side of the island."
It has lovely views over fields. The cottage was clean and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms and shower were of good quality. The owner was both friendly and helpful. Thank you :-)
-
"The place is comfortable and set out with everything you need."
They have been built to a very high standard and even though we had some very cold weather, they are so well insulated, we only had to put the heating on for a couple of hours during the evening and only for 4-5 nights. It's great that you can take your dog but I would say that the outside patio needs a small fence as we had other dogs coming into our part.
-
"Cottage was lovley Had everything you needed In a grate location Defo stay there again"

Directions not accurate enough --it would help if the sign for cottages is on the side of the lane---a more comfortable setee in the lounge would be good ---otherwise excellent --great location
-
"Lovely stay with the dogs and great location for some long walks."
Perfect for a weekend/long weekend break. Great outside space. Twin room beds are a little uncomfortable (didn’t try double) and didn’t feel clean as the sheets hadn’t been put on properly/been left on. Walls are very thin can hear every word from the other rooms.
-
"We we’re on holiday with our elderly father so this was perfect as it had a downstairs shower and bedroom so our dad was very happy."
The cottage had everything you need the owner has definitely thought of everything and the views were stunning.. the only thing I would say is the bed upstairs has a bolster at the end of it which was not ideal for my husband who was 6ft 2 other than that it was perfect. I would definitely recommend it.
-
"A lovely little cottage with lots of safe open space for our young children to play in."
A very relaxing holiday.
-
"The property generally quite clean, but just don't look under the sofa or corners with cobwebs."
We met the owners and they are very nice and friendly people. The hairdryer was missing and no shaver sockets provided but the owner provided a 2pin socket adaptor and hairdryer the follow day. Kitchen utensils were adequate for our stay although a few more would be better to allow a full dishwasher load. The 2 chopping mats however were not great and not flat to use. The shower on the ground floor was really nice with good water pressure. The outdoor private patio is also very nice space which also opens up to the surround grass areas for kids to run and play.
-
"Good value for money"
-
"The property is set in a lovely location which is generally quiet with just a little road noise."
It is also ideally located in terms of a supermarket/ local shops and it easy to gain access to many of the main attractions on the island, like The Needles, Yarmouth and Sandown. It is very new and well equipped. The heating system is efficient and the property stays warm for quite some time after it has gone off. The mattresses are good and firm but the pillows are too soft for my liking. I am glad I took my own. Lastly, I would suggest the owner invests in a whirly line as there are no obvious means of hanging out washing out side the property. I hope to go back to the Island in the spring and would be more than happy to use this property again.
-
"Pros: Good facilities, plus extra like Nespresso coffee machine."
Good solid patio furniture. Although small, the living area did not feel cramped (4 adults and dog). Nice open field in front of property and was quiet. Easy check in with key box. In general well kitted out. Cons: Cleanliness, not just areas that had not been dusted for quite a while but all the kitchen/bathroom plugs and plugs holes were slimy and and unclean. The kitchen sink was discoloured and came cleaner when applying some "elbow grease". The vacuum was not good and didn't really pick up much. In general it looked like it had received a wipe over not a good clean. Stain on sheet and no pillow protectors. Issue with Wi-fi - however sorted on day. Broken shower temperature control (again had not been checked before we arrived) meant coldish shower on first morning, this was rectified the same day.
-
"Just a advice to dog owners."
The laminate flooring is very slippery. My dog was frightened to walk on it. This necessitated a visit to Dunelm to buy some runners for the floor. Please be mindful of this whether you have a dog or are an elder.
-
"A very enjoyable time nice setting iow very pretty round every corner with lovely views."
Cost of ferry a bit off putting and eating out expensive, but you only live once so enjoy
-
"Insufficient address , off Copse Lane , needs to be included in the address, poor sat nav connection , various roads closed due to road works causing us to drive around until we spotted Norton Green."
The gas boiler wasn't working until I saw the cleaners on the following morning of our arrival who arranged for plumber to fix it. Both the shower & bath plug wholes were blocked with hair, causing slow emptying , YUK !
-
"Great cottage and facilities."
Friendly helpful owners who respond to any requests promptly and cheerfully. A fabulous place.
-
"Overall perfect for a nice weekend away."
Lower velux window in bathroom would be an issue for taller guests. Most door handles were lose and made us anxious about being locked in a room. Several higher level cobwebs that are missed by the cleaners. A little disappointed that the garden areas were open giving access for the dogs across other guests areas. We have an older anxious dog and an energetic puppy and so it would have been good to be able to open the French doors and allow them fresh air without fear of them running to others. A secure Low level fence around each outside area would have made a huge difference to our stay.
-
"Great cottage in super location excellent dog walking so near cottage up to the golden Fort with spectacular views"
-
"Lovely location nice and quite."
Everything you could need although we never cooked main meals there. Beds were comfortable and clean. Furniture was not as shown in the pictures. Rather old large sofa that was too big for the space needs a small sofa and two armchairs as it was too crowded making it hard for mobility impaired. No shower mat making it slippery in shower. Large cobweb over bed in upstairs room other than that rooms were clean and tidy. Had to wash all the utensils as they weren’t very clean.
-
"Lovely place, great for all familys"
-
"Property in great location, with lovely country park on door step to walk the dogs."
Overall the cottage was cleaned to a reasonable standard, but could have done with a few extra cooking trays, if self catering. Also the sofa in the property advertised on Sykes website is not what is in the property. The one in the property looked very old and was extremely uncomfortable, which was a shame, as our stay would of been perfect it this was not the case.
-
"Spotlessly clean and very well decorated."
Fully accessible for those less mobile. Some essential items not provided, eg colander, tea tray, bottle opener. Could have done with bigger bath towels, a couple of occasional tables and a bbq. Dishwasher very welcome but not enough crockery to make it worthwhile using daily.
-
"Fabulous quiet location."
Well equipped bungalow. Could do with slightly more comfortable seating in the lounge.
-
"There was a lot of dust on the surfaces of kitchen units as well as on the living room furniture."
One of us has a severe allergy of dust and it was really affecting her when we were inside the house. We had to spend most of the time outdoors. Luckily the weather was great, but if we had to spent more time inside, we may have had to find a different place to stay. Other than the dust, all was good.
-
"The cottage was in a great location and had everything we needed."
However on the cottage description it listed a hot tub but there wasn’t one!
-
"Super cottage for dog walking and beach walks."
Lovely part of the Isle of Wight. Excellent cottage humans and dogs extremely happy. Thank you yet again Sykes Cottages
-
"I felt the 2nd bathroom & bedroom downstairs was very small & basic."
We were 4 over 70 year olds and like a bit of comfort, upstairs apart from the weird planning of the bed/bathroom door, was fine , but maybe a rug between the single beds to step out on to would help. Also seating in the living room was not good for 4 adults.
-
"The directions to the cottage are WRONG."
On leaving Yarmouth on the A3054 travelling South you turn LEFT to Norton Green not right as is stated. This caused a lot of confusion, luckily I had a good map and was able to sort it out. The shower in the downstairs bathroom needs a tray for soap, shampoo, sponge etc. It is very difficult to shower and balance these items at the same time !!! It would have been nice to talk to someone on arrival or departure just to say "Hello and welcome" or "Goodbye and thankyou" Otherwise everything else was first class and despite the awful weather the holiday was enjoyable. It was a nice place to stay. Thankyou.
-
"Some of the kitchen equipment (utensils) could have been better"
-
"This is not the property advertised on your website!"
We took photos to show it wasn't the advertised property but Sykes dismissed our complaint. It was not cleaned to an acceptable standard, had very little kitchen utensils not even a chopping board and an appalling sofa that looked about 30 years old! Cheap bedding and towels and flat uncomfortable pillows. We will not be booking any other properties through Sykes as standards have clearly dropped!
-
"We were very impressed with the holiday cottage."
Situated in a pretty little village with Lovely views looking out over fields. The cottage had all the mod cons needed with the added extra of a coffee machine! There was plenty of room for a family of 4. Some little points we thought we’d like to mention. Would be great to have a washing line or clothes airer to hang wet cloths. The pillows on the beds were flat as pancakes - we had to buy extra to make them work! Although the cottage was clean and tidy, attention to detail would elevate this property to excellent - dead flies in the light shade in bathroom. Limescale around plug hole in bathroom. Mirrors all streaky. Lamp shades in bedrooms all croaked. Towels were too small - bath sheet better than a bath towel. Cheap bedding. An investment into bedding and towels would be a bonus. Such a shame these littles things are added to this review but first impressions really do count! All said it was a great cottage and based just where we needed to be. The points above did not spoil our holiday just a recommendation.

"Having had our original accommodation cancelled just a week before we were due to travel I contacted Sykes to find an alternative."
That’s when we found this property and we felt that we’d actually found a better place! Was ideal for us having our dog with us. It’s on the end of the row and great for spending the evenings just playing ball which our dog enjoyed so much. Accommodation was clean and had everything we needed other than maybe a clothes airer for drying laundry but that didn’t spoil our stay. Just to the side of the property is one of many bridal paths in the area leading to many walks around Golden Hill which was ideal for us. As and when we visit the island again this property will be our first option! Met the owner who was also lovely and chatted most days. Would definitely recommend.
-
"The holiday cottage was not clean."
The oven and hob were greasy, the floors had not been hoovered; and yet we were informed that we should leave it clean and exit promptly for the cleaners to come in! In addition, the pillows on all beds were cheap and offered no support. Very uncomfortable. Despite offering sleeping for 4, you would not be able to seat 4 people comfortably in the lounge area. I do not like to be critical as otherwise the cottage was well appointed and had good facilities.
-
"We absolutely loved our stay!"
The location is absolutely stunning and the house was clean and had almost everything you could need for your stay. Being nit picky I would say that as we stayed for 8 nights it would have been helpful to have a hoover available as the house gets very dusty very quickly and we only had a dustpan and brush to keep sweep up and the utensils draw was missing a spatula so trying to make pancakes on pancake day wasn't easy but that didn't stop us enjoying our stay. We will definitely return and will highly recommend.
-
"Brilliant location, property was finished to a good standard, only slight moan is that it looked like a few bits of the property hadn't really had a clean so far this season - almost felt like we were the first people in this year!"
Besides that great.
-
"Very very good place"
-
"Lovely modern cottage."
Really warm and comfortable with all mod cons. Near Freshwater and great for the beautiful coast and beaches. Barney our Cocker Spaniel loved it.
-
"I would recommend a few more knives and plates and bowls in the kitchen to assist with a family of 4 staying otherwise a very quiet, comfortable and ideal location with modern and new facilities."
I would book again.
-
"The holiday let was very clean and the people were very obliging and helpful when asked."
-
"Very good location."
There were some small niggles- there were no instructions for the heating system. The weather was turning cold and it took us a few days to work it out. There were no instructions for the washing machine or dishwasher but as we didn’t use either it was not a problem for us. There were no chopping boards or small sharp knives. Also the furniture in the house was not the same as in the advertising picture. (The settee was too big!) Having said this it did not stop us having a very enjoyable stay and would recommend it to others.

Would of liked instructions for the cooker also a rotary washing line would of been very handy otherwise very happy with the accomodation
-
"The cottage was fine and in a great location."
The only problem was the kitchen equipment, which was extremely limited. e.g. there was only one sharp knife - a slightly damaged bread knife: no paring knife, no chopping knife etc.
-
"We had a great stay."
A couple of suggestions: the house only had one knife- a bread knife. This made chopping fruit and vegetables very difficult and I would have expected better equipment than that. It would have also been good to have a hairdryer provided. Everywhere I’ve stayed for the last few years has provided one.
-
"Booking was very easy and the information was accurate."
The accommodation was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
