Spacious and clean with everything that was needed to make our holiday perfect, a comfortable bed, all modern conveniences and furnishings, great WiFi etc. Great outside space for sitting in the sun with a morning coffee or an afternoon other beverage. Friendly hosts on hand to offer advice on directions or trip suggestions. Was an absolute pleasure to stay here, well done and thank you both.

  • "One of the best cottages we have rented."

Sheepwash barn is a picture postcard cottage, with superbly finished period-décor, quality furnishings, and is impeccably clean. The facilities are hard to fault - the internet connection is the best I have come across for a holiday home, the hot water is instant and limitless, while the powerful water pressure provides a great power-shower. The enclosed external area supplied with rattan furniture is great for catching the sun all day. The location - arguably as important as the cottage itself, is ideal for walking out on the many footpaths. Tennyson Down, Freshwater Bay, various cafes/pubs, and sleepy Freshwater are easily within reach. Will we be back? Almost certainly.

  • "Very nice cottage, lovely location, was clean and tidy."

The owners were very approachable, We had no issues so did not need to contact them other than a general chat. If I had to say anything negative about our stay, I would have preferred that the settee was not a Chesterfield, they are very uncomfortable, when booking the cottage a picture of a normal high backed settee was shown. Unfortunately my husband suffers from back issues so have to sit on the dining room chair during our stay. This is not the fault of the owners but one to note if you are a back sufferer.

Thank you for your comments, it's a shame you didn't air them when you were staying with us, we would have swapped the chair for the high backed winged queen Anne chair we have, we do have to change furnishings occasionally as they become worn out or scratched by over enthusiastic dogs. • "Sheepwash Barn is a lovely and comfortable place to stay, we stayed here with our three Chihuahua's."

The owners are very friendly and have three little Westies who made themselves known to our three Chihuahua's. Local facilities are a short walk away via a convienent path which runs from the left from the front of the cottage the path has dog bins at either ends so it is an ideal place for the early morning and late evening strolls! Local shops are just up the hill at the end of the path, a Co Op, a fish chip shop and the Vine public house, Sunday lunch at the Vine is very good, the pub is also dog friendly. This is the first time we have stayed at this side of the Island and we were not disappointed. Allow some extra time if you are going to the Central or South side of the Island as a few road closures around Ventnor prevent a straight route via Military Road.

Very dog friendly even blankets to cover the lovely Chesterfied sofa so the dogs could go on it provided. It was well equipped. A couple of points though..the bathroom looked out over owners garden and is very open just a thin net curtain. Blinds definitely needed . Also floor of shower is horrid. Needs relaying or regrouting. Lastly a small gate would be good to shut off the alley to bins by side of owners gardrn. Any dogs you are with can be prevented from going down there when owners dogs are in the garden and a scrap through the fence slats ensuing! We ended up blocking it off with the garden furniture and cool boxes etc to enjoy some peace!

On the plus side it is in a lovely location, relatively clean and plenty of hot water but poorly equipped and poorly maintained

I never respond to feedback as we quite often get 100/100, our all time average is 97/100, and the previous people in the barn gave us 100/100, so I was slightly upset about your feedback, we endeavour to try and make everyone's holiday good, for some reason we failed with yourselves you marked us down for comfort, not sure why, perhaps it was the leather chesterfield or the memory foam mattress on the bed with the 13.5 tog quilt, other people have said it's better equipped than there home, so not sure why you marked us down, perhaps if you had tried to contact us we could have resolved any issues. The property

Freshwater 0.5 miles.

This superb detached, Grade II listed thatched cottage is next to the ownerÂ’s home in the hamlet of Middleton, half a mile from the village of Freshwater and three miles from Yarmouth.

Dating back to the 17th century, this delightful holiday home is ideal for a couple or small family who wish to explore this lovely part of the Isle of Wight.

After parking up you enter into a front patio area, where alfresco dining in the evening can be enjoyed after a day out and about or a breakfast before venturing to one of the nearby sandy beaches.

The first room you enter after stepping over the threshold is the kitchen with dining area, then you step into a cosy sitting room.

From the sitting room you take two steps up where you will find a small corridor with the bedrooms and wet room off it.

ThereÂ’s two bedrooms at this wonderful cottage; a comfy double and a single, and completing the accommodation is an additional basin and WC.

The nearest shop and pub are just less than a mile away, with the nearest beach being a mile from the property.

The village of Freshwater, which is reached via a footpath directly outside the cottage, has shops and cafes, with Freshwater Bay boasting beaches and high chalk cliffs.

Walkers, cyclists and watersport enthusiasts are well catered for in the area, and thereÂ’s plenty to see and do within reach, including the charming seaside town of Yarmouth, The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay and Osborne House.

An excellent Isle of Wight base for whatever you wish to see or do.

About the location

FRESHWATER

Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
