  • "The cottage was attractively furnished, and well equipped."

The site was quiet, though it was out of school holidays. The hot water and heating worked, though the heating thermostat didn't seem to (heating was on or off). Overall we had a lovely week. One of our party is a wheelchair user. We have the following comments on this accessible cottage: good points are a disabled parking space outside and step-free access to the door, level access to the shower and a grab bar. Maybe a drop-down shower seat would help. We brought our own shower stool. The toilets would benefit from either drop-down or fixed rails to aid standing. The shoe cupboard in the corridor takes a lot of room, making getting in or out of the main bedroom very difficult in a manual wheelchair; similarly with the twin room and the table and chairs. Access would be fine with a walking frame. Maybe the cottage description could say there is limited room for a wheelchair. We left a charger behind, and were shocked to see there's a £30 charge to post items, so will buy a new one.

  • "Property was very spacious, light and airy kitchen well stocked, beds very comfortable owner very helpful."

A good base to go exploring, buses were a great way of getting around, avoiding car parking charges. I would recommend to friends and family.

  • "We arrived to find we had no hot water or heating."

When I rang the owner she nonchalantly told me the boiler wasn't working, a plumber had been out the day before (Sunday) and a part was ordered, to arrive Tues/Wed. By Thurs AM, after little communication, I rang Sykes who gave the owner until 3pm to resolve the situation. The boiler was fixed shortly before 3. That, along with unhealthy looking pans, kettle, (photos sent to Sykes) shower cubicle in need of a good scrub/regrout and an uncomfortable old sofa, certainly put a dampener on our week. Then I came home to see the previous occupant had also had problems with the heating throughout his stay, with no hot water the last couple of days. Booking.com has a review from July, detailing similar problems. A one time offer of £109 compensation was offered by the owner which doesn't cover the 3 nights with no boiler. I have not yet received a response from Sykes as to how she came to this amount. There are other properties at this site which I am told are in excellent condition, and only a 20 minute walk from the quaint seaside village of Yarmouth which is worth a visit.

  • "Unfortunately the water temperature kept going from hot to cold making the shower a risky experience."

On the second last day there was no hot water at all. The owner arranged for a heating engineer to call but be could not repair the boiler so we had to boil a kettle every time we needed to wash etc.

  • "Overall we had a lovely stay here."

The cottage was clean, beds comfy and all the extras you would need like hand wash, toilet paper, dish cloth, washing up liquid etc. There were also fans provided for each bedroom which was a bonus in the heat. We stayed as a family of four with a 9 year old and 2 year old and one of the main reasons we booked Munday Cottage was because it was advertised that there was a play area located on the site which the cottage was on- West Bay holiday park. However on exploring the site on arrival we were met with a building site in place of the playground and an additional parking area where the tennis courts were advertised through the photos on Sykes website. When I contacted the owner they said that they had told Sykes to remove this inaccurate information but even while we were there these two features were still being advertised on their page. It really was disappointing and my son was disappointed too. The site itself too didn't have many people staying on it. I would say if you are a family with young children this probably isn't the place for you but as a couple or family with older children then it's a lovely quiet corner of the west of the island from which to explore.

  • "The cottage was clean, spacious and contained everything we needed for a lovely stay."

It was very beautifully decorated throughout and the walk-in shower was easy to use. It was wonderful to have table and chairs outside so we could sit in the sunshine. 8, Munday cottages was a good location for exploring the Island. One thing that would help would be instructions on how to use the cooker. Other than that it was a great place to be!

  • "5 nights spent in this lovely property, very clean , tidy , and well equipped , very peaceful area ."

The only thing I would say for my disabled father is if you are unable to stand from wheelchair in the shower room with WC has no rail by toilet . Which my father had real problems with transferring of and on to toilet . I understand that the walls would not support a rail . A floor based bar would be perfect . Just a suggestion as this property is listed as mobility friendly. Other than that beautiful place Pat Matthews x

Dear Pat, thank you for your feedback which is always appreciated. We will look into your suggestion of a further rail by the toilet to help with access. Property Owner

By providing a shower stool and kitchen stool. A lovely clean, spacious bungalow. If we have anything to add it's that lounge beds would have made our stay perfect

Thank you Julia for your feedback, we do all we can to accommodate our guests needs and are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately we do not have the space for 4 lounge beds. Property Owner

About the location

YARMOUTH

Newport 12 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path. Why not take an energetic stroll at the nearby Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, with Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and amenities for the family 7 minutes away by car. Yarmouth's pier and sailing club jetty is another good spot for crabbing. Four miles away is Compton Bay, famous for dinosaur remains; head there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet. West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yarmouth is an ideal base from which to explore this wonderful island.
