  • "Another superb stay in this beautifully-positioned apartment."

Everything was perfect. We have re-booked for next June already. Our favourite location.

  • "Where do I start?"

When I was looking though you properties last year with a view to booking somewhere for this September, I was drawn to the look of Sail Loft Annex in your main picture. It looked a nice place to stay. There was access on the flat to the doors which my husband and I needed. At 79 and 83 we find steps difficult these days. I could see there were windows looking out over the Solent and all year I have been looking forward to our holiday. We were disappointed when we went inside to find there was no window at all facing the sea. The owner said that it was the only one of the 7 properties that didn't have one. I said the picture showed a different property. He said he had asked you to take that picture down. What we learnt while we were there was that there were seven properties at The Boathouse Apartments to give them their proper name. The one in your picture is no 4. I could imagine that as being a Sail Loft Annex in a previous life but not the other apartments. Of the seven, numbers 1-4 were facing the sea. I am not sure where no 5 was but 6 and 7 were down the aforesaid steps. I gather no 6 was above us. The apartment itself was all that we needed and was comfortable as was the bed. We have a 6' wide bed at home so obviously found a 4'6" rather narrow and were afraid of falling out at night. Fortunately, we didn't. We feel that you should not only put the correct name in your brochure but also the correct picture of the outside of the apartment as the main picture. We would advise you put that access would be difficult for anyone with a disability or the elderly. My husband had problems getting the items we had brought with us down the steps and back up again at the end of the holiday. If we use your firm again, we will be in touch with you to check that the access is suitable for us and that accommodation is all on the ground floor. An Nead had an upstairs bedroom despite being a bungalow!

  • "Very grubby and unloved, needs attention."

Very tired decor. CANNOT fault the area or position of property. Have stayed at many SYKES properties and this was the worst. All others have had nice little unexpected extras and been very clean. The old guy who owns this is a lovely person and it hurts to have to say these things, but we have to be honest. Plenty of people said the same in the guest feedback book. One example, ONE partly used loo roll on the dispanser, no extra rolls- had to go shopping on our first day there

  • "It's our eighth time staying at the Annexe."

Contrary to other reviews it's clearly round the back of the property, which is no problem. Walk round the building and you are at the front. There are chairs in the annexe you can take round the front. It was a pleasant surprise to have a sofa rather than two armchairs. The bistro next door sells lovely food. It's a 15 walk along the beach into Yarmouth or a short drive. I would thoroughly recommend this property and we are already planning our visit next year.

Everything we needed was provided even an iron, all dishes pots and pans etc. Everyone was so friendly and helpful would highly recommend. However we did leave early as we struggled with road closures and diversions on the island making it difficult to get out and about

  • "We refused to stay in the accommodation, had to seek an alternative."

It wasn't the studio apartment as advertised in the picture above very misleading. We were shown to a pokey room at the back of the building which smelt damp and we were lead down some steps to a narrow passageway where a man was rubbing down paintwork, approx. 3ft wide and from the accommodation you were looking at a brick wall and the bottom of park cars at head height NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL SEA VIEW. We were both looking forward to this holiday week after a upsetting year, Tim my husband had a heart attack followed by a triple by pass and we felt gutted when we arrived to see what we were expected to stay in for a week. John the owner offered us a room to the side of the building which wasn't ready which also was a state worn carpets smelly and the shower was not very clean although he said it had been used for storage over the winter, and then said if we wanted to use that room it would take a while to clean it up and we would have to return later. To top it all off he told us we would have to pay for the electric as there was a meter, he offered to put Five pounds in it to start us off! He did say that Sykes Cottages keep putting on the Sea View Beach photos and people like us assume they will be getting those but not so. I could go on but just want a full refund.

But I envisioned sitting out on my patio watching the sun go down with a glass of wine but in room 7 you can’t do that !! But if I booked again I’d need assurances that a better room was available, I’d never book to stay in that room again

  • "The location of the building is spot on, unfortunately there was a couple of issues."

1/ The shower cubical is to small. 2/ The bathroom door only opens half way as the basin is behind the door ?? there's more then enough room to move it further along the wall. 3/ The bed all be it comfy as 2 mattress's and a topper ?? great till you turn over and roll off the edge. 4/ The place inside and out could do with a lick of paint and up date the single wardrobe to something for two. 5/ That tv which it would seem is in most apartments is to small from the bed you need binoculars to see it. 6/ Walking past the edge to get to the door full of bees is not very nice of fear of been stung. Other then that the host was very accommodating and polite there was no can opener, a call to him and next day it was on the side. Would we recommend no 7 yes even though not a sea view but a wall, the food next door at the Boat House which is prepared by the sisters is well worth a visit.

  • "We were disappointed that we only had a view of a brick wall and hedge (which is deceiving at first glance on the website as this shows a sea view)."

I probably wouldn't recommend staying in No 7 for this reason. Also, as the cafe is adjacent to No 7, strong smells of frying were evident when it was open, which is not always what you want.

There's a brilliant beach café next door; and they close at 5ish so there no night noise. it's straight on to the beach and the owner is very helpful. 4 things, the sink tap needs new valve washers, the tap it self needs fixing down and the shower mixer has no thermostatic control and it is on a hair trigger from scalding to cold. The electric radiator in the bathroom is always on, and swithing off the bathroom "isolator" doesn't turn it off. Having said that those are all minor faults and we would happily go back. If you or Mr. Brady could book the ferries from the Island it would be very much cheaper to get there (£350)

I had to text owner at 4 as he wasn't there. He arrived about 20 minutes later. Bearing in mind the size of the island, he likely hadn't remembered we were due. On entering the property, he gave a brief overview of fire equipment and fuse box, which was helpful. Listing photo showed a small sofa - what was there were 2 armchairs, not comfortable or relaxing. There was a large, sticky stain on the floor of the apartment - clearly not cleaned thoroughly after last use. On opening the fridge, we discovered a packet of two ready made burgers, expiry 3 December 2018 (Arrived 23 December) When throwing them away, we discovered that the bin liner already had someone else's rubbish in it. The bedding was atrocious- it felt really old. There was a memory foam mattress placed on top of another mattress, which made it feel like you would fall out of bed. The pillows were lumpy and flat and clearly very well used. The sheet on the bed was bobbled and pilled and it was horrible to sleep on. Considering the rubbish that was left in the apartment, I was unsure if the bedding had even been washed. After the first night in the bed, I had to go out and buy a complete new bedding set including pillows, in order to sleep.

Many thanks for your feedback, which we greatly appreciate. I can see that you contacted the office regarding this and we have now resolved the situation - many thanks Property Owner

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path. Why not take an energetic stroll at the nearby Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, with Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and amenities for the family 7 minutes away by car. Yarmouth's pier and sailing club jetty is another good spot for crabbing. Four miles away is Compton Bay, famous for dinosaur remains; head there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet.
