Sustonica, the first global sustainability standard for holiday lets.
Our aim is to create lasting holiday memories and we intend to do so both responsibly and sustainably.
To deliver on this we've set out a number of environmental and social pledges which help to focus our efforts;
you can read more about them in our Impact Report.
This is why we've partnered with Sustonica, the first global certification for holiday lets,
to support our owners to be more sustainable.
The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,
waste reduction and promoting inclusiveness. They are on a mission to become the most widely
recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,
and their owner has made a commitment to look after our planet as well as you.
"Very comfortable very clean and very well appointed property."
We much appreciated the many "extras" of things like shower soap etc. Owner very friendly and welcoming. Quiet position but near bus stops to the main town and beyond if you don't want to drive. All in all a very good week's holiday. We will definitely go back! And as a previous guest mentioned the stars at night are spectacular viewed from the garden!

Julie was an excellent host, providing useful information, without being intrusive. If we were to return to the Isle of Wight, we would definitely try to book The Carthouse again.

"Overall we received what we paid for, the cottage was comfortable with a very good outlook."
It is part of a working farm complex which is what we wanted.
Inside the cottage, it was not as clean as it could be, the kitchen was sticky and we wiped it over before we used it. The pillow on the beds were foam and not as good as they could be. The shower cubicle needs a make over, it's looking tired - but it works very well.

Although the property was on a very busy working farm, during a very hot, busy time of year, we felt welcome at all times. We were allowed to walk around the farm, which we did during the evenings. This was a privilege. We felt comfortable and safe in the property. It was a lovely week and we would certainly return.

The cottage has everything you need, you have heard of the saying "Everything but the kitchen sink", well this had the kitchen sink as well.
The only thing you need to take is laundry detergent and fabric softener, this I guess is due to skin allergies. I would point out that the washing machine is just that, it is not a washer dryer, but that is not a problem, as there is a washing line with pegs, laundry basket and airers over the radiators for all your drying needs.
We really enjoyed our stay here, so much so we are hoping to go back later in the year.

The property
This thoughtfully-converted old cart house is superbly located on a mixed working farm, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the delightful village of Shorwell on the Isle of Wight.
Caringly appointed throughout to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation, this Shorwell cottage is perfect for couples, friends or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy the sheer beauty this part of the island has to offer.
Set entirely on the ground floor, this Shorwell cottage offers a light and spacious sitting room with dining area and French doors leading out to the garden, along with a fitted kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed.
You will enjoy stunning countryside views from the sitting room, kitchen and twin bedroom in your Isle of Wight cottage.
Outside, you will find an extremely large, private lawned garden with patio area, perfect for enjoying an energetic game or two, or simply relaxing with a morning coffee as you watch the daily life of the farm.
The beautiful, historic village of Shorwell was developed around St. Peter's Church and its three manor houses, of which West Court is the oldest, dating back to c.1500.
Queen Victoria is said to have favoured Shorwell over any other village on the Isle of Wight.
Apart from outstanding walks and exhilarating mountain biking, just a few minutes' walk from your Isle of Wight cottage you will find The Crown Inn, as featured in the AA's Britain's Best Pubs 2011 and 2012, and well worth a visit.
Just outside the village, why not explore the west coast beaches of Brighstone and Compton Bay, where at low tide you might be lucky enough to spot the odd dinosaur footprint?
Alternatively, head up the road towards Newport and you will discover Carisbrooke Castle, a must for all the family.
The perfect Shorwell cottage from which to explore this wonderful island, any time of the year.
