"It was very difficult to open the door to the bins downstairs."
I sprayed a little bit of oil (WD40) on to the hinges to improve it.
Thank you so much for your 5 star review! Thank you so much also for dealing with the bin store door - I have flagged this with our property manager. We hope to welcome you back to Pilgrim’s Loft in the future. Property Owner

"We travelled to the Isle of Wight with the family (3 adults and 2 young children below the age of 8) for a week long holiday."
Ventnor is a beautiful little beach town and the location of the property was good. It was easy for us to use Pilgrims Loft as our base and travel around the island. Pilgrims Loft provided a great central location meaning that no single journey was more than 30 minutes. On arrival, the accommodation was clean, neat and very inviting. And it was an unusual treat to staying in a converted church. Would I stay there again with my family? In short, no. I can see how many people would love staying at Pilgrims Loft, but if we had to do it again, I would not stay there. I suppose this could have been avoided if I had also a lot more research... The key reasons for this are: 1) Parking is an absolute pain. While there are a few (less than 10) spaces in front of the church, it was near impossible to get a spot. Every time we came back I had to circle the block in the hopes to find an available spot and regularly found myself walking more than a block to get to the accommodation. Plus with the super narrow roads my mirror was also hit by another car trying to pass us once we had found a parking. 2) There was only 1 shower. The accommodation has 1 ensuite and 1 other bathroom. The 2nd bathroom has a bath with a shower head, but as the bath is free standing, you can't shower without wetting everything else in the bathroom. With there being only 1 shower, "bath time" was a constant juggling act moving people through the only shower (in the ensuite). This is not easy with 5 people and would've been far better if there were 2 actual showers. 3) No garden / balcony and as a result, no view. We were incredibly blessed that we had wonderful weather for our whole stay and were able to get outside as much as possible. A garden would've been great to get out into to enjoy the sunshine while at the accommodation. A view in the morning would also have been nice. A garden would have been useful for the kids who would not have needed to run around the house and could at least unload some energy outside. After a week it did start to feel like we were living in a box. For our next visit to IoW, we will definitely do a lot more research and make sure that the basics for a family vacation are in place.
Thank you so much for your feedback - we are delighted that you found Pilgrim's Loft in a good location and was clean, neat and very inviting! In answer to the points you raised using your numbering: 1. Parking - As outlined in the property description on the website (and shown below), we really do recommend the tourist permit and you can then park 2 minutes away and all over the Island. Free roadside parking is available opposite the church & in the surrounding roads, but it is available on a first come first served basis There is a pay and display car park 2 minute walk away. It is helpful to note Isle of Wight Tourist Parking Permits can be purchased on the the council's website and are helpful particularly if traveling around the island 2. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We felt it was important for there to be a bath in one and a shower in the other to give flexibility for people with small children who need a bath rather than 2 showers. 3. Pilgrim's Loft is an apartment in the loft of a converted church so there is no outside space and as the church is in the High Street, there is no garden either and there is none advertised or shown. Thank you staying at Pilgrim's Loft! Property Owner

"A beautiful and extremely tastefully furnished space."
Would be great to have had a door stopper for living room door as closed quite firmly. Also, the feather cushions on sofa kept leaking little feathers and allergy irritation. Apart from the above no faults whatsoever. There has been real thought gone into the luxury bedding and style and it was welcomed. Would definitely return again. The Prosecco and basket welcome pack were also a tasteful touch ! Thank you
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! In relation to the lounge door this is a fire door and it has to be self closing for fire protection so we are not allowed to ‘prop’ it open. We are so grateful for your comments as we put a lot of thought into everything and so it is wonderful to hear your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back soon to Pilgrim’s Loft! "Really nice apartment, spacey, close to shops, very modern and comfy."
-
"A gorgeously furnished cosy property, oozing decadence, with everything you need."
Really wonderful welcome basket, much better than most! High quality equipment provided, including a big smart TV, it was a really lovely stay. House Managers were amazing. Parking was only tricky on one evening but we still managed to park nearby. It was the perfect place to shelter from Storm Ciaran! Would go back in a flash.

"Very lovely property, with luxury features."
Parking can be difficult. Easy to get around the island from here

"Generally we really enjoyed the apartment."
We did feel that the apartment lacked some practicality; there could have been more wardrobe hanging space and also drawers. Also, there were a lot of ornaments in places where they could have been damaged and where maybe more useful pieces of furniture could have been placed. Also, the water pressure was really low. However, we had a good time and the apartment was a lovely size for 2 adults, 2 teenage boys and a little girl. We really appreciated the welcome hamper, especially the Marmite, and prosecco!

"Overall a lovely place that was in great condition."
We really enjoyed our stay at Pilgrim's Loft.

"We loved Pilgrim's Loft - definitely the nicest IoW property we've stayed at so far, and one of the nicest Sykes ones."
Nicely decorated, very clean, bright, airy, generous hamper of goodies, plenty of seating, comfortable beds - we very much enjoyed it here. Very quick and easy walk to the nearest car park (parking permit highly recommended for their car parks all over the island). One of the neighbours even dropped off some lovely cupcakes for us. Wish I'd booked it for a longer stay!

"Very pleased with the accommodation."
Parking was potentially an issue and there could have been more guidance in the welcome pack, e.g. pull up outside for loading/unloading and the cost and facilities of using the nearby carpark, i.e. purchase of the season ticket covered you for parking in many car parks on the island as well. The welcome basket of food and wine was impressive and unexpected. There are other flats in the same building and I'd expect them to be just as impressive. Very happy with the Sykes Cottages experience. If I was coming back to Ventnor, I'd explore the Sykes offerings first.
Thank you so much for your kind comments - we are delighted that you enjoyed your time at Pilgrim's Loft and look forward to welcoming you back! Property Owner

"Pilgrim's Loft is a beautifully furnished property but to our mind was designed to appear perfect in photographic shots but not with an eye for practicality, there were vases/ornaments on nearly every available surface, little working surface for preparation of food in the kitchen, a rather crowded dining/living room which was combined with the kitchen."
The latter was OK for just the two of us but I would not have been comfortable if there had been six of us. I would also say that the twenty outside steps to the front door could be quite daunting for some people and no mention was made of this in the details. I am sorry to be so honest and would conclude that we had a pleasent stay without wishing to return. and the bed we slept in was very comfortable.
Thank you for your feedback and we are very glad that you had a pleasant stay at Pilgrim's Loft and that you found the bed very comfortable. We were a little surprised to read that you didn't think that you would have been comfortable if there were 6 of you. I would like to reassure you that as a family of 6 ourselves, we have absolutely no issues and we frequently have friends over whilst we are staying there and there is always more than enough room. We do hope to welcome you back to Pilgrim's Loft! Property Owner

"Pilgrim's Loft was the most luxurious self catering apartment we have ever stayed."
In fact it was so full of creature comforts that it was a struggle to leave the apartment every day, despite the Isle of Wight being the most amazing place for a holiday with so much to see and do. The apartment is so well located in the lovely seaside town of Ventnor where it was easy to walk into town for breakfast or stroll along the esplanade to the Spyglass Inn for freshly caught crab. For those looking for a longer walk, Steephill Cove was just 1.5 miles along the Ventnor coastline, a beautiful unspoilt fishing cove with a safe, sandy beach, nestled between rocky cliffs and smugglers' coves. East of Ventnor, we enjoyed trips to Shanklin, Sandown, Bembridge, Ryde, and Bonchurch, just a short walk from Ventnor, has some of the prettiest streets around and a lovely village lake. Godshill in the north is a must, especially for a cream tea at The Old World Tearooms which also caters for vegans and those seeking a gluten free option. Going West, we enjoyed Blackgang Chine, Freshwater Bay and Alun Bay where the cable car and boat trip are certainly worth doing. The speedboat takes you around the needles, the leisure boat takes you to them and then makes the return journey. We had so much fun, it's a must to return. We highly recommend Pilgrim's loft in its superb location for exploring the south coast of the island.
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback and travel tips! We are delighted that you enjoyed your time at Pilgrim’s Loft and look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes from all at Pilgrim’s Loft Property Owner
