  • "There were some issues that had raised concerns with our party, after the toilet on the 1st floor was flushed the 1st floor bedroom shower drainage had very unpleasant smells coming from it, the patio door in the kitchen very difficult to open, the cleaning brush in the 2nd floor toilet was clogged with faeces and the 2nd floor fire alarm (on the landing) self activated with a constant beep on our sixth day (Thursday) this issue was reported immediately (late night) we were told to turn the switch off at the fuse board and remove the alarm, the property manager said he would fix it the next day (Friday) but it wasn’t done, the other issues were raised at the beginning of our stay by another member of our party."

    Dear Guests, I'm so sorry that you experienced some issues with Seaview House. I have spoken to my property manager about this and we will rectify the issues that you raised. The shower seems to be fine for some guests (and indeed ourselves when we stay) but a problem for others, I'm sorry that it didn't work as it should during your stay. As we have a break in bookings for a few weeks now my builder will take it apart to try and identify what is causing this. Property Owner

  • "I stayed on the first floor in the bedroom with the shower and sadly the smell from the shower was very unpleasant and rather overpowering even with the shower door closed at all times."

    I think it might be an idea to have the shower drain looked at.

  • "I have hired Sea View many times now, for our family holiday."

    it is always clean and the owners have made improvements each year, it is a comfortable house with fantastic views and only yards from the car park. grand children mature but Sea View seems to suit all. my only little quibble is that there are really not enough toilets and showers, and nothing on the ground floor, the stairs are becoming a problem for the elderly.

  • "Sea View House was the perfect place for us, the house is lovely, extremely spacious, well equipped, clean and comfortable."

    The views are absolutely stunning, the outdoor seating is great. Dudley Road is a great location, unusually flat walk into town with good parking ( Wheelers Bay car park is very close and is free, it’s also possible to park on the road if you’re lucky/ strategic planning!) We will definitely be booking again next year.

  • "We all really enjoyed staying at Seaview House and appreciated the amenities and convenient parking."

    We especially liked the view from the kitchen/dining room which is stunning, including the garden. We also liked the peace and quiet at nighttime.   • "Fabulous position for town and beach, fantastic views, easy access."

    Property kept in good repair, all necessary items to hand, the only recommendation I could suggest was a downstairs toilet, for visitors with perhaps a little mobility issue. Otherwise it was perfect for our group of 3 couples for our annual week away.

  • "We have stayed at this property with its excellent views in 2023 and were delighted back then."

    Firedoors were installed in early 2024 and I twisted and hurt my back on the main bedroom firedoor. I videoed it shutting in only 1.5 seconds whereas the minimum standard seems to be 3 seconds. This was corrected during my stay after I complained. The next day I hurt my lower back even more painfully on the same door. From what I can see of Fire door regulations, the maximum opening force for a firedoor appears to be 30N. We measured it to be 69N, using a suitcase weigh pull and converting from 6.9Kg to N - (on video). I informed Sykes by phone and email but found out later that they did not receive my emails. I had to use a whats app number after my stay. They have confirmed the owners have been informed. I am concerned that if the pulling force is not corrected this could also happen to weaker people, such as small children, pregnant women or older people who do not have a lot of arm strength.

  • "We had a lovely, no hassle holiday."

    Thank you for the extras (milk, bread, coffee, toiletries etc), lovely and unexpected. The property was very quiet, spacious and the views are amazing. We particularly enjoyed family drinks and games on the first floor terrace overlooking the sea. The location was fine for us and we were aware of the parking fees but it was nice to know we could park freely for the week without feeding parking meters when touring the island. We did see a parking enforcer in the town. Recommend walking on the sea front (Wheeler's bay beyond the sea pot?) to the east of the property, we saw somebody catch a large bass for his lunch. Thanks again.

  • "We were greeted by a bad smell like drains or sewage."

    We located it to be the shower within the bedroom.The whole idea of a shower plonked in the corner full view of the room and onto carpet is an odd one.We had to buy bleach to try and get rid of the smell. It would last for a day and then the smell was back. The other shower cubicle was incredibly small no room to bend down to pick up soap without banging your head Also we have photos showing the green gunk growing inside and the hairs. The sofa in breakfast room had lots of feathers dust and rubbish under the cushions .The one dining chairs legged wobbled and my child fell off it only to discover screws are missing from underneath. The cups and plates had rings and food remnants on them. We were told car parking was good with on road parking available or a nearby carpark that was reasonable.We had to pay £65 for a week on top of what we had spent for the house.!! We were misled by photos that showed the beds to be further apart and we're convinced there were 2 double beds.The one photo shows a pine frame with no other bed in site convincing us if was a double instead the beds are so close it was hard to squeeze between them. As expecting an old house we expected thick old walls deadening noise instead it travelled really badly. We could hear next doors talking baby crying and every word or noise the kids said. when upstsirs . The door knob mentioned in a previous review is still very much broken causing a child to get locked in the bathroom causing a panic. We loved the view thought it was well equipped and we're grateful for the welcome bits. Thankyou

    I’m so sorry to hear that you experienced some disappointing issues with Seaview House. Our management team are on call 24 hours a day and could have assisted you with the problems you identified and prevented these issues potentially deteriorating. I have insured that they will be looking at all of these issues today when they clean the house. In high season it can be difficult to find free parking in Ventnor but most guests find the weekly tourist permit at £65, which allows them to park all over the island, good value. I’m sorry this wasn’t the case for you. Sykes take all of the photos of the house for the website so maybe you could let them know what you found misleading. The bedroom layout of 1 king and 3 twin rooms has always been the case and is in the description. I’m so pleased that you found the house well equipped and you loved the sea views. Property Owner

  • "Seaview was a delight and our family had a great week."

    There was just a couple of maintenance issues that wouldn’t take a lot to rectify E.g, door handle on 2nd floor bathroom was loose and falling out and it would have been nice if the garden was maintained. It was also a little misleading that there was a picture of a BBQ in the photos but there wasn’t one available and in fact there was a sign to say they couldn’t be used due to fire regulations.

  • "An absolutely fantastic place to stay."

    The very well equipped kitchen makes it easy to prepare meals, although can thoroughly recommend The Spyglass Inn for fabulous food. The view from Seaview House is breath taking and I would definitely love to stay again.

  • "What a lovely house!"

    Lovely surprise to find so many provisions had been left for us - thank you. I could bleat on about how wonderful the house is, how fantastic the views are, but it might be more useful to give a bit of feedback. Just two things - would be handy to have a hair dryer and perhaps one more of the bedrooms could have a double bed in it. All in al though, a really really good holiday property. And if we ever go back to the Isle of Wight, we'll certainly book this house again.

  • "This is a lovely light, spacious comfortable house with plenty of room for 6 of us, wonderful views of the sea and well equipped."

    It is placed conveniently within the town and close to all facilities. We appreciated the owner getting in touch before our holiday and Clare helpfully answered any questions. As with any building being used by a stream of different people, there are always going to be things to deal with and we were impressed that Clare asked to be informed about any maintenance issues. We will be happy to stay here again.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Seaview House."

    The position is great, just as the picture shows: fantastic views, very close to beach and the nice town of Ventnor. Very easy to travel all over the Island and lots of lovely walks. We prefer to have direct contact with the owners and were relieved to be put in touch shortly before our stay. Clare was really helpful, immediately responsive to queries and very friendly. The house is large, spacious, with a very pleasant, bright and airy ambience. It is extremely well equipped, everything is good quality, comfortable, simple and easy.

  • "The house was nice, the view of the sea was good."

    the top bedroom was very good. We had problems with the doors. ground floor bedroom, two ladies when first went in, could not get out! to turn the handle needed more strength than they had, and they were young, someone had to let them out! First-floor bathroom and bedroom doors court on the floor, hard to open making a noise which did wake up sleeping people.

  • "The front door could do with a coat of paint 1st impressions go a long way."

    The curtains in the downstairs bedroom need replacing or fitted properly also the bedroom door is a fire hazard I closed the door from the inside and couldn’t open it as the door knob doesn’t turn on the inside and had to shout for help to open the door from the hallway. Other than that the rest was very good.

  • "The property is listed as having 3 bathrooms and it only has 2."

    It has a shower in one bedroom and a sink in another but only 2 toilets, which for a house that sleeps 8 is not great. The house and garden are generally in need of some maintenance work - possibly just the end of a busy season, but damp is coming through the walls. The view and location are great and we had a lovely holiday but the pictures don't quite match what is at the house and seems just a little misleading. Owners were great and really responsive to our enquiries. We would go back and stay again but we were only a group of four, not sure I would like to be there with more.

  • "Lovely property within easy reach of all amenities."

    Absolutely stunning views. We took our children and grand children and had a smashing time. Would definitely go back. A couple of pointers on the downside for reference: The waste water from the top bath is not plumbed correctly. It overflows the guttering and floods the top tier of decking. No instruction on putting out the bins, we missed the day and were left with excess rubbish at the end of the week.

  • "Views are to die for and the night sky was jaw dropping at times."

    We needed a total escape and this was it. House is very well located and contains everything you need. Dudley Rd car park is the closest and not too expensive. Sitting in the Slipper bath with a glass of bubbly at the end of the day felt like a real treat. Ventnor is friendly and has some lovely restaurants. Easy going vibe all round and totally unpretentious. Lovely break and would book again in a heartbeat.

  • "Wonderful sea views in a quiet location."

    Sea View House was very clean and had everything we needed for our holiday. We found all the beds to be very comfortable. A full range of shops are within easy walking distance. Lovely sea walks in both directions. I would recommend The Spyglass Inn for good food, plenty of outside dining space and right on the sea front. We were a family of five adults and a 7 month old baby and it was perfect for us. The baby slept on the top floor and never woke up because of noise from outside or from downstairs when we all assembled in the evening.

  • "Seaview House is a fantastic property for a holiday or short break."

    We found the property was very clean and perfectly ready to be occupied. The kitchen has all the appliances one needs and the multiple views of the sea from the garden, the terraces and the house is a huge bonus, as is the close proximity of the property to the seafront and all the shops, restaurants and other amenities on offer in Ventnor.   • "Location is perfect and views are perfect."

    Family bathroom on first floor “tired” but clean and useable. Kitchen great for breakfast but if you are trying to cook a family evening meal, adapt the meal to what pots/pans are usable. Oven needs cleaning. Lovely house and perfect for sea walks and walking distance to town easy. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • "The house is in quite a nice area with a fabulous view."

    The house was not as clean as we expected especially with expected caution with Covid, so we spent the first hour cleaning and wiping all the surfaces. We also selected the pots and cutlery we would use and washed them up and kept them separate. We found pans and oven trays that had been used and put back in the cupboards without being washed up, so clearly the house had not been checked and cleaned prior to our arrival. The promised welcome provisions were also absent. The bathrooms need replacing, especially the one on the first floor which is quite simply not fit for purpose; Small, old, dirty. We gave this feedback to the owner, who explained they are due to be replaced this winter following a delay due to the covid outbreak. The kitchen and lounge areas are acceptable, but lack comfy seating. To our surprise, the gardeners turned up on the Thursday (not the day of change over) and let themselves in through the house to get to the garden accompanied by a dog.! This is supposed to be a Pet free house, but the gardeners dog didn't seem to count. another point of concern, also not Covid safe practice while the house has guests in residence. I would not recommend this house without all of the above being rectified.

  • "Well equipped house with wonderful views in a quiet area."

    A great place to relax and explore the island from. Recommend Cave ice cream (dairy and gluten free) & happy haddock in Shanklin for fish&chips including gluten free. The house would benefit from de scaling the kettle and fridge/ice maker and clearing the shower drain thoroughly. Also sharpening the knives. I recognise the planned refurbishment of the 1st floor bathroom was delayed and this will benefit the house further especially if there are two useable showers.

  • "The property could do with having the 1st floor bathroom replaced."

    Door handle comes off in your hand and the door does not close properly. Very narrow and not much room to move around. Outside cushions could do with a good wash. All the kitchen mugs were quite stained. Outside bins were completely full. The garden could do with some TLC also under the decking is very messy and could do with a good clean out

    We are surprised by this feedback as the managing/cleaning agents can be contacted at any time regarding any issues which would have been resolved ASAP (the welcome information pack explains this) and yet this client did not raise any concerns until after their week's holiday. The first floor bathroom is an original and quirky bathroom (with original bath and toilet) that we receive numerous compliments about. It is not a modern bathroom. There is a modern shower room on the second floor with WC, shower cubicle and sink, the master bedroom has a roll top bath with views out to the sea and another bedroom has its own sink. Seaview House is a comfortable house with fabulous views, great living space and excellent location close to all amenities. Ventnor, beaches, coastal walks and the Island's attractions are there to be enjoyed!" Property Owner

  • "Well equipped house in a good location with parking just down the hill."

    Fabulous view out to sea. Would recommend ice cream shop opposite Tesco in ventnor, model village and Osborne House plus mermaid gin distillery. Walking the coast path yields stunning views and at Sally’s riding school you can canter on the beach. The happy haddock in shanklin did good gluten free fish and chips to order.

    The main room needs curtains to block out sun as it got very hot. Garden also could use a parasol. Kitchen tongs would be handy.

The property

A lovely terraced Victorian townhouse situated in the town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.

This is a perfect location for families or a group of friends wishing to explore this delightful island.

This beautiful Victorian townhouse was newly refurbished in 2015, whilst still retaining many of its original features with a lovely first floor roof terrace with wrought iron balustrade and a three tiered garden, which all offer unobstructed sea views.

On the ground floor is a twin bedroom, and a stunning open plan living area with fitted kitchen, including a range oven and island, a large dining table, and a comfortable sitting area to relax and watch TV.

Bi-folding doors in the living area open onto the decked seating area, combining the house and garden together, so that you can sit and relax with your morning coffee and enjoy the picturesque sea views.

The first floor also has a twin bedroom with lovely views of the Downs, a family bathroom, which has retained quirky original features and the main sitting room, with French doors leading out onto the elegant balcony/roof terrace furnished with sun loungers.

Up on the second floor is another twin bedroom, family shower room and the master bedroom, with a king bed and a beautiful roll-top bath.

Even from the bed and bath one can admire the superb sea views.

From the decking, step down into a small cottage garden, a perfect butterfly haven, walk through the gate into the slate patio, where there is a rattan table, benches to enjoy a well-deserved drink, whilst watching the glistening sea and some of the most stunning sunsets.

Two minutes’ walk from this lovely cottage is the beach at Wheelers Bay, a fisherman’s paradise, and from here you can walk along the sea defences and concrete coastal path to the Esplanade in Ventnor where there are many pubs, restaurants and cafés.

A little further along the coastal path is the picturesque Steephill Cove, the perfect beach for swimming, or simply just indulging in savouring the locally-caught crab and lobsters in one of the many eateries, a little haven even in the height of the summer time.

There is so much to do and see on the Isle of Wight including visiting The Needles Adventure Park which has a park, shopping centre, tea rooms, 9-hole golf course and many other attractions.
