Plenty to do and see within a short drive of property. We had everything we needed and the owner contacted us with parking information which was very helpful. Property is close to seafront, shops, pubs and restaurants. Loved it.

  • "We were lucky to find such a super cottage available at the last minute."

We spent our first night watching the sun set, sat on the pier, eating fish 'n' chips. It's in a very convenient location with easy access to everything you need. Anne-Marie was helpful with parking suggestions and a lovely welcome treat. The cottage was fresh, comfortable and well appointed. Our kids loved the den and made use of the good selection of board games. Would definitely stay again.

  • "Poppy Cottage is a well located cottage for discovering Deal and surrounding area."

Excellent communication with owner who made arrival / departure easy. The cottage is well equiped and comfortable for 4. As it is a Victorian cottage the stairs to the bedrooms are narrow and a little steep and the bathroom /toilet is downstairs. I would definately return for another stay.

A very small extra charge for parking but it was so convenient, just across the road from Poppy Cottage. Shops, pubs, seafront all only a short stroll away. All in all a lovely and stress free holiday.

  • "This property is not suitable for people with mobility issues."

Owner believes the property is clean we take issue with this..Leather furniture needs a really good clean. The so called garden could be good. It is a small walled area.full of weeds faded fake plants rusty furniture. Would definitely not stay there again.Sorry if this upsets the owner she sounded very nice but I wonder how often she checks the property

This feedback has upset me. I visited Poppy Cottage on your arrival date to leave you a welcome gift and spoke to you before your arrival to help you with directions to Deal. When you made contact with Sykes - I immediately offered you a refund as I didn't want you to stay somewhere which didn't suit your needs. You said you didn't want to leave early and chose to stay the remaining 8 days. I sent my lovely housekeeper in again, who gave the house a reclean at your request. I messaged you throughout your stay as I was concerned about both you and your husband's mobility. I visited Poppy Cottage again on your departure day to recheck the property and leave some new supplies for the next guests. This is my first negative review and it does upset me. I would recommend you look very carefully at the accommodation you book in the future for holiday stays to make sure they are suitable for your needs. Poppy cottage is a beautiful mid terrace Victorian house right in the middle of Deal and we look forward to welcoming our guests. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Poppy Cottage."

Even before arriving the owner contacted us giving us really useful guidance about parking in the area which was incredibly helpful. The cottage itself is beautiful and had everything we needed plus more. The owner is very thoughtful, upon our arrival we were greeted by a lovely little card, chocolates, cakes and even milk in the fridge for a cuppa. Our 2 boys were very impressed by the treats! The cottage was the perfect size for us. As a family of 4 with 2 young boys (4 and 7 years) we utilised the ‘snug’ downstairs as a play space/den for the boys which they loved. The little touches such as board games and a selection of books to read in the house were well received. I was very pleased to see a book that I had on my wish list in my library at home was on the shelves so I enjoyed reading that during our stay. A smart TV in both the living room and master bedroom was great as we could log into Netflix/iPlayer etc. The cottage was clean, beautifully decorated and well laid out. It felt like home from day one. I cannot fault it in anyway as it was perfect for us. The location of the cottage is also fantastic, it is so close to everything. The beach was a 3 minute walk away and the high street was just a 1 min walk. Having the two supermarkets on the doorstep was incredibly handy. The cottage is also a 4 min walk from the train station which was great when we did a day trip on the train to explore some of the surrounding areas. We have never visited Deal before but we are so glad we did. The cottage, the owners, the area and also the lovely people we met during our holiday made this a very memorable and enjoyable week. I highly recommend this cottage to others as I’m sure you will have the best time just like we did.

  • "Poppy Cottage Feedback Anne-Marie was most attentive from start to finish."

She was committed to our comfort and enjoyment. Advice on Parking was offered beforehand which was really useful when we arrived. The location near the High Street Shops, just 3 minutes walk from the beach promenade, and positioned so close to the Aldi and Sainsbury supermarkets and Deal station, was ideal, especially for a winter holiday. The house was bigger than we expected with a modern kitchen , tastefully decorated everywhere and with Christmas Decorations and a Welcome Note. It was cosy and warm. Communications were excellent. We had cause to make contact twice and were responded to immediately. We spent a lovely week and were sorry to leave.

  • "Not a good place to stay if you have any problems with your legs."

The step to the property is high and the stairs leading both up and down to the bedrooms are steep keeping with conditions for properties of this age that would not meet the recommendations of today's standards.

About the location

DEAL

Dover 8.5 miles; Canterbury 19.3 miles.

Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses nearby but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number one coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
