"We really enjoyed the home from home feel of this tastefully decorated property so much so that we returned 3 months later."
The beds are incredibly comfortable and the pretty bathroom is huge. We also appreciate the fact that there are two toilets. We enjoyed using the conservatory with the glass roof showing us the blue sky. It was lovely to be so near (end of the road) the beach , the big Sainsburys and the High Street. We can recommend this large cottage without any reservation.
-
"Excellent cottage, albeit quite quirky in a very good sense."
Very close to the beach. Very good eateries, all in walking distance. For facilities and comfort, this is one of the best cottages we have stayed in.

"Samphire House"
-
"A lovely character house, it’s so well equip, it has everything you might need for your stay and beds were so comfy with lovely soft bedding we slept brilliantly."
Location is so perfect and although we had to pay (£10 per 24hrs) we had no trouble getting parked nearby and a bit further away were free spaces. Great communication in advance of stay and a pack with everything you need to know. Highly recommend.
-
"We have been at Samphire Cottages for the 4th time, because it is perfect for us!"
We are two families (siblings) travelling together and have enough space for everyone, even in the conservatory, although we had to move together a little bit, but we managed quite well. The owner of the cottage always cared for our concerns and offered a lot of suggestions for our holiday. The location could not be better and is very close to the beach with a lovely walk in both directions: Sandown Castle Community Gardens on the one end of the beach promenade has to offer a food and tea truck and is great for a tea break. To the other side you can walk to Walmer castle and further on… Don‘t miss the coastal walk to (or from) Dover Castle with an irremissible stop at The Zetland Arms Inn in Kingsdown. Superb! And you also have a great pub in Deal nearby, the Ship Inn, which we loved very much. We hope that we can return to the cottage and the lovely town!

"We had a lovely stay and the owner was very helpful."
-
"We had a lovely holiday at Samphire over Christmas."
The owner had put up a Christmas tree, and left useful information on the local area, as well as instruction manuals for all the appliances which was also useful! The property has a great layout for a family of 4 with 2 grown up children, with plenty of room for everyone to find their own space! We enjoyed playing board games in the downstairs den. The owner was very helpful when we encountered the odd problem and was very quick to respond; also returned the good housekeeping bond very promptly. We would love to return here at some point.
-
"Samphire cottage was a very comfortable base for my trip."
It’s very conveniently located in Deal and the house has everything you need to self-cater. The rooms are spacious and well decorated and I got used to the steep quirky staircase by the end of the week! Would highly recommend and will return.
-
"This is a lovely house and we had a fantastic week."
It is warm, comfortable and very well equipped. The staircases are very steep though - but all of the houses in historic Deal tend to be like this. We would love to return.
-
"This was the second time of staying at this property."
We have already booked for a 3rd stay. The property is very clean and well maintained, the facilities are excellent. A massive super king bed in the main bedroom (very comfortable). Lots of games for the kids in the basement. A minutes walk from the beach and just around the corner in a nice pub. Restaurants and pub grub are dotted all over the town. Well worth visiting.
-
"A really quirky trip back in time cottage !"
But with all the mod cons you could wish for. An ideal base to explore the area. Deal has so much to offer.
-
"Our return visit was just as pleasurable as the first."
Comfort and facilities were ideal for a family of 5.
-
"Lovely old quirky cottage."
Great position between the town and the sea. Lots to see and do for for our 3 generational family.
-
"I stayed at Samphire Cottage for the third time and hope to return …."
-
"This holiday house is both comfortable as practical."
It has all the things we, a family of 5, needed during our 4-night stay in February. We were especially happy with the bright annex to the kitchen, the quality if the furniture, the completeness of the kitchen and the overall coziness of the interior. Finding a (free) parking space was always very easy, and within a minute's walk. We did not expect Deal to be very special, but we were proven wrong, and ended up spending more time in town than we scheduled: Impressive "understated" seafront, nice shopping and restaurants. The weather was quite chilly, but the house kept us warm, We would like to return in the future.
-
"We had a fantastic time at Samphire."
It had everything we needed for a party of 7, was extremely good value and very well located for the seafront within the conservation area of Deal. I would highly recommend for those who wish to stay in an interesting historic property, with great amenities and located a stone's throw from the sights of this charming town.
-
"We had an excellent time at Samphire, it was lovely and cosy, clean and fun."
Everything is provided for, and it really was a lovely stay by the sea. The host provided tips on what to do and where to go. Deal is a very friendly and welcoming town, with plenty to do for the weekend.
-
"This is an excellent well maintained cottage and is very clean."
There is plenty of games in the basement room to keep the kids entertained on wet days. The beds are comfortable and in the main bedroom there is a super king bed (So much room to spread out after a busy day). The kitchen has plenty of facilities for preparing meals. You are just a minutes from the sea and a couple of minutes from the shops/ pubs. Already booked again for next year.
-
"We had a wonderful stay at Samphire House."
It was very well equipped and had everything we needed. Our children enjoyed exploring the different floors and rooms, and there was always something interesting to look at in the house with all the lovely pictures and decorations. We especially loved the blue bathroom! The location is excellent with the beach, supermarkets and town all being a short walk away. Samphire House is a special property and it was lovely to stay at a house with so much history. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!
-
"Lovely clean and comfortable house."
There is everything at the property you could possibly need including a full kitchen should you wish to cook! The house is very homely and it is obvious that the owners have considered everything for their guests. We stayed with a family of 4 but the house is big enough for a lot more people with plenty of beds including sofa beds in the basement lounge and plenty of chairs for chilling or eating. The small spiral staircase is a little tight and sleep which was fine for us but should be considered if you are less mobile or have young children as the two smaller bedrooms are in the loft. The beds were really comfortable, although don’t be surprised to be woken early by the seagulls! The house is a stones throw from the beach with free parking just up the road. The high street is at the end of the road with loads of deli shops. Sainsburys and Aldi less than a 10 minute walk away as is the train station if you want to get here by train. Deal is a lovely clean and well maintained coastal town. You can tell that the residents are looking after their houses and businesses with lots of maintenance work being done. We especially loved the flowers on the pubs and restaurants near the seafront. We enjoyed walking along the pier and swimming in the sea. The beach does not have any sand being a pebble beach but this suited us. It was spotlessly clean. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants to try as well as cafes and coffee shops. Deal is well placed for trips to Margate, Ramsgate and Dover. We visited the spitfire museum and the nearby aircraft museum which is worth a visit as well as using our English heritage membership at Deal and Dover Castle. All in all a great place to visit with wonderful accommodation. Thank you

"Thank you Catherine for the beautiful, homely touches throughout Samphire."
Your home is in such a lovely part of Deal for pottering about and the surrounding area is wonderful for exploring too. We also enjoyed swimming each day and then such a short walk back home. The house has so many places to relax with the outside courtyard as well as dining area and two lounges. We would love to come again with it feeling like a home from home. Many thanks, Susie

"Lovely Cottage, very well equipped with everything you need."
Great Location, to visit surronding places with good train links. Would definetly recommend for a great Family Holiday! The Barry's 10th June - 17th June 2022
-
"Beautiful cottage in beautiful Deal!"
Everything was perfect. Everything we needed and so close to everything. We were 4 friends meeting so parking could have been an issue, we opted to pay in the market car park at £8 for 24 hours. This was 2 minutes walk and we still parked at the back for the lovely Saturday market. Margheritas in Middle street a must, fabulous service and amazing chef!!
-
"It was a welcoming home, with lots of comfort to help you have a great stay."
-
"Loved the property."
Great ‘sun room’ to sit and eat and play games etc as a family with a small outdoor space too. The king size bedroom was fab, especially as the bathroom was on the same floor. Having 2 toilets was handy. Stairs were very steep but good fun. Deal is a lovely place with great shops, a market and fab pubs. The Ship just 4 mins away is a great boozer with a garden.
-
"Very lovely place!"
The new conservatory makes it perfect !
-
"Three of us stayed at Samphire in what was surely one of the sunniest March weeks!"
The cottage was lovely and had everything one could possibly need for a great holiday. The location was superb and we did a lot of exploring around the area. We would definitely come back again and would recommend Samphire to everyone. Joanne

"We had a lovely stay in Samphire House."
It’s a really quirky house - a bit like visiting a National Trust property but comfortable at the same time. It was warm and cosy and well equipped. The location is fantastic - it’s so easy to walk to the seafront and the town. There are more restaurants and pubs than you could ever visit even if you stayed for a month. Great communication with the owner and very fast return of the housekeeping bond. Thanks for a lovely, stress free holiday.
-
"Cath was a great host who took care to liaise with us and even let us take the property a day earlier at no charge."
Samphire House is a charming and quirky cottage in the heart of Deal. The location was superb within walking distance of the shops. We loved the cellar and games room downstairs as well as the little extra toilet upstairs in addition to the big family bathroom. The house was very well-equipped with everything we needed for an extended stay as a family of four. The heating was all lovely and warm on a timer. The living room was quaint and cosy. We even had a housekeeper every Friday to change the bedding which was great. Would recommend this property for a great stay in Deal.
-
"Seven us stayed at Samphire over Christmas week, our first family holiday for two years."
The owner couldn't have made us more welcome -- even put up a Christmas tree for us before we got there. Kitchen is very well-equipped, which made it easy to cook all the festive meals. Deal is a lovely place and well worth exploring.
-
"A charming and comfortable house with plenty of space in an excellent position close to the sea."
We'd have no hesitation in returning when we're next in Deal.
-
"This cosy cottage was the perfect base for our trip to Deal."
It’s right in the heart of the conservation area and seconds from the sea. It’s so quiet we woke to the sound of seagulls and nothing else. The cottage has a winding staircase and slightly sloping floors which make it absolutely charming - a bit of living history - but also the modern comforts of fully equipped kitchen, bathroom & extra loo. There’s even a snug in the cellar. Cath was a great host, giving us tips on places to go and making everything very easy. I hope to visit again soon.
-
"This house has so much to offer."
It’s a very comfortable property with all the conveniences. Located right in the heart of historic Deal. We would absolutely want to rent here again next year.
-
"Great location, very cosy, great for families or groups, owner is very helpful"
-
"This place is literally a home away from home."
There is everything you need to have an extremely comfortable experience. The owner is very friendly and has exceptional communication skills. The house is situated in an ideal location for exploring the surrounding area. We loved our stay at Samphire and would highly recommend it.
-
"We had a most enjoyable stay in Samphire Cottage and found it to be very well equipped and comfortable."
It was well situated for getting around Deal.
-
"We had a lovely week at Samphire House."
It was great being able to walk in two minutes to the beach and lovely old town. The house was very comfortable and well equipped for adults and children. We hope to visit again.
-
"Lovely comfy home, beautifully furnished with everything required for your stay."
Excellent location for town and sea front. Deal has a lot to offer. Thoroughly recommend.
-
"Samphire Cottage is a lovely house situated in the conservation area of Deal."
It is very comfortable and though big, it is cosy. It is very clean. The stairs are steep but I was aware of this when I booked. The house was built in 1790 so lots of history. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything one needs, there is also a little courtyard/garden and a conservatory. The bedroom on the first floor is big, charming and characterful. In fact the whole house has a lot of character but with all the mod cons. The owner is very quick at answering queries and gives lots of information by email. The process of getting into the house was really easy and simple. I would definitely recommend the house.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at Samphire House."
It was a lovely location just minutes from the town and the beach and a fascinating building. Our 6 year old son loved spending a rainy day just exploring the house and playing some of the extensive collection of games there. We will definitely return some time.
-
"First time visiting Deal, and we had a very good time."
Samphire Cottage was clean, cosy and pretty well-equipped: plenty of cups and plates and general utensils. There are two comfortable living rooms, one on the ground floor, the other in the basement. The street is quiet and so you can unpack the car by the door and then move on to find somewhere to park. It is a short walk to the beach and to the shops. There is a good fish ‘n’ chip take-away, the Fryer Tuck, about four minutes walk away (apparently they also deliver). We also had a nice meal at 81 Beach Street and enjoyed visiting the local film museum and exploring the basement tunnels of Deal Castle.
-
"Very comprehensive briefing by the efficient owner."
Samphire House is very comfortable/clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The house is perfectly positioned near to the town centre and the sea-front...very quiet...and no sign of smugglers. Very good facilities in Deal itself (even in January!). AND...if you are a "park-runner", then the start of the Saturday 5km run is only 15 minutes' walk away!
-
"Samphire is a lovely property with plenty of period charm - sloping floors, steep stairwells, but it’s also very comfortable - cosy bedrooms, warm, great bathroom, very well equipped kitchen."
The location is superb - couple of minutes from both beach and shops, with some great little pubs around most corners! Highly recommend this place, can’t wait to return one day.
-
"It was a special birthday weekend and was a really nice place to stay with our family."
Everything we needed was there - and more! We’d love to stay there again and would definitely recommend it.
-
"We are frequent visitors to Samphire and are pleased to note on each visit the regular and progressive refreshment of the cottage's decor and fittings whilst still retaining the overall cosy and comfortable ambiance of the property."
This is ideally demonstrated by the presence of a second sitting room, to which anyone seeking peace, quiet and solitude can retire! The cottage has everything you might need for a perfect holiday or stay. The town of Deal has also been refreshed recently with the opening of new bars, restaurants and retail outlets, although the demise of M & S is regrettable. The pier is currently being refurbished whilst the sea, the beach and the promenade walks are a constant. We regularly check the online view from the Waterfront camera to remind us of our last visit, and at the same time we look forward to our next stay in Samphire.
-
"The cottage was in the historic part of Deal."
It has many original features and is well maintained and comfortable. Its extremely close to the beach with shops, pubs and lively bars a few minutes walk away.
-
"It's a really lovely cottage and we had a lovely time."
The little patio made all the difference. Thanks!
-
"Lovely cottage very nicely done up and in a great location."
The two sitting rooms are snug and cosy and the kitchen well equipped. Loved the sunroom which was full of light and the outside space was perfect for sitting in and taking tea, reading the papers or for breakfast. The host was very helpful in recommending places to eat and visit. All in all a great stay and we'd definitely recommend the cottage for anyone wanting a break in Deal. It's minutes from the beach, the coastal path and the busy High St.
-
"What a lovely cottage, perfect place for access to the town and the beach."
Parking about 4 mins walk and plenty to do in town. Main bedroom is huge, the room with the 2 single beds is a good size, the other double it not very big, just enough room for the bed and a bit of storage, used the cellar room as a bedroom instead. This is a brilliant stop for visits to all the castles and a day out in Canterbury. We went onto Calais from Dover and this was ideal, only 25 mins drive and we were in the queue for the ferry.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at Samphire House."
Ideal location for High Street and Beach. Map provided by the owner of where to park for free was really useful. Deal is a lovely town. We'll definitely be coming back!
-
"This is a great house, loads of character, feels cosy and homely."
It is in a good location close to the sea and town centre. The dining area is a little cramped but the kitchen facilities are good. The living areas are great and allow everyone to spread out. Would definitely book again.
-
"We really enjoyed staying here, it's a very atmospheric house in a very atmospheric place, and very comfortable too."
Our children aged 10, 13 and 15 loved it and wanted to stay longer.
-
"Lovely cottage for Christmas."
.. lovely location, hassle free and great value. Would highly recommend both Sykes and Samphire house.
-
"Deal and the location of the property were excellent."
In our opinion we felt the property could do with a little updating keeping its period features. Housekeeper was very attentive to any queries.
-
"Samphire suited us brilliantly."
We were a group of seven and the house accommodated us perfectly. It is very clean, warm and homely and anything we needed was to hand. The location could not be better. It felt 5 minutes walk from virtually anywhere and I'm sure we could hear the sea, although it was a particularly stormy day. Deal is a gorgeous town that is clearly on the up. it is catering more and more for the down for the weekend crowd without seeming to give up its "real heart". I couldn't recommend the house or town more highly.
-
"Delightful old town house, very characterful."
Surprised how attractive the old town of Deal was to explore. Only had a week but could easily have stayed much longer
-
"This was a charming cottage with plenty of quirky features, including sloping floors and steep spiral staircase."
The house was big enough for all 8 of us and was fabulously close to the beach. We loved Deal and the conservation area where this house is located. Very historic, comfortable and every need was catered for by the owner, from dishwasher tablets to board games!
-
"The property had everything we required and lots of character."
It was in a fantastic location, close to the sea and minutes from shops and restaurants. The house was really well equipped and spacious. Lots of games, dvds for the children. It was beautifully clean. It is in the heart of historic Deal, with lots of interesting streets and houses to explore. We had a fantastic holiday and the property was perfect for us and our children (aged 15, 6 and 4). We highly recommend this property.

From start to finish the owner was so helpful and lovely, the house is stunning, perfect location for town and beaches. Full of character and charm, ideally situated to visit so many lovely places. There was everything we needed and more in the House, they really have thought of everything. We will definitely be returning here with family and friends as soon as can be arranged! Thankyou

"Having read all the descriptions and comments in feedback, the cottage surpassed the already high level of our expectations."
Particularly outstanding was the standard of the equipment provided together with all the fittings and fixtures throughout. We have been going to Deal for our annual holiday for over 10 years now and Samphire is top of the list for our accommodation needs. We shall continue to watch LIAR for reminders of our latest fantastic holiday! Jane, Stewart and Fiona West Yorkshire

About the location
DEAL
Dover 8.5 miles; Canterbury 19.3 miles.
Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses within a 30 minute journey, but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number 1 coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
